Another (bad?) idea....

I'll go by the scrap yard and see what can find, think I have 20 pounds of so at the moment. Lead lots are like hens teeth at the moment so I'll just go buy a Dutch oven to cast, or worse we scraped are bbq this year and I was using the burner to melt lead. So I'll have to figure that out to.

Did Shaw give the bore specs on the 458, I'll see if I can pickup a 458-460 bullet sizer. I have enuff powder coat so I'm good there.
Ill keep an eye out for a lead pot. My dad may actually still have his and he dosent cast any more.
Would a butane stove be hot enough? I use a little 20 dollar stove for all my cooking, and the old ones are all still in the shop and functional....i use those for bluing and boiling parts n stuff.

Ill slug the bore on the .458, im not sure what shaws specs are.

I've used Coleman grills before,it works but takes a long time and can't put to much weighton

They work but can be slow and you can't put much weight on them.

Went to thruway sporting goods today, it's next to were the original schrade knife was in walden ny. They had a good amount of 270 bullets if you need some, there were 3-4 flavors of 375 as well.

Handled a few guns to, they got one kimber hunter 6.5cm $790, a nice howa have to look up what they call it but it was nice think $540 ish. They had the first Wyoming weatherby I've seen, think it was the backcountry, nice camo in 6.5 rpm very light with the carbon stock almost felt like the whole gun was made of plastic. $2900 but for a mk5 and so light not to crazy a price.

I was seriously considered a Kimber hunter when i got my Mesa, id still like to own one at some point. They seem like best buys in the ultralight rifle category. Savage has some neat options also.
Howas got some really neat models out as well, they arnt ultralights, but still really cool. Dell feeds me links to what his legacy rep has on hand....im gonna bite on the next mini grendel or .350 that comes up.
The backcountry ti is alot of money for sure, i didnt look super hard at them but they did seem to have nice features, and Weatherby flair lol.....out of my price range by a decent margin tho.

I SHOULD be good for .270 bullet, ive got a few hundred right now. 375s i could use speer 270s if they have them at a decent price, but otherwise i got enough to keep me hunting for a goodly while.

Oh a picture of the Winchester family....and a relative....

It's more like the red headed stepchild lol.
Hehehe, yeah does kinda.

We got a shipment of coolers in at work today and there was a couple of big pieces of styrofoam used for padding.
I snagged those and brought them home for the case.
Going to have to go to Walmart or one of the other fabric stores and get some stuff to line them with, but making good progress.

I'm thinking I'll probably put the stocks tools and ammo on the bottom and then the barrels and scopes on the top. I'll have to put in some form of retention I'm sure but I haven't figured it out yet

Yay, getting close to done!!!

I got the boyds stock in, and realized that instead of ordering a heritage, i ordered a classic.......thats what happens when u just buy stuff based on thumbnails and a good price.
The reason i wanted the heritage, is that its round forend supports a larger barrel channel.
The 458 barrel is actually pretty massive. It's .91" at the muzzle, and about 1" right at the front of the forend.

Still since I already paid for it, I went ahead and fitted the classics barrel channel to the 458 barrel. I also took Troy's advice and bedded it.

If there's issues with accuracy there's still a little bit of material I can remove and do more tinkering.
I do still need to rasp the cheek piece off but that should be pretty easy it's relatively small.

The monstrum mounts only fit on the trail with two of their recoil stops engaged.

I also got some fabric for the case.
They didn't have the classic bad Hawaiian print that I wanted to use, So I got some new hotness....

That's the print you're going to see when you actually pull a piece out of the kit.
My dad picked out some gray stuff for the actual top layer.

I also replaced the latches with some cheap lockables. The airlines here have some weird rules so being able to lock all of my latches is a plus.
I'll also put on some hard points to actually attach padlocks or something I think.
PXL_20210515_014602650.MP.jpg

I've got 20 cases for each round prepped, I got the cartridge overall length set for the 270 on the 264 All I have left to do is the 458 and I can start loading...... Then we get to actually do some testing....

The stock looks nice, people are going to think that 458 is internally suppressed with a barrel shroud lol. Could add a screw in the forend to tune the barrel of needed.

I think the mini wulfs will like the case lol I do. Hope to get the mould next week thinking of ordering some of the good powder coat.

The first time it goes off it should disabuse them of that notion lol! It's weird it's not any thicker than my christensen's but it feels and looks huge.... Probably cuz it's a good 3-in shorter

We'll have to see how well it shoots. I also left the channel that's cut into the forend of the stock empty just to keep the forward weight minimal since that barrel is so big and heavy.
Push comes to shove I can fill that and tinker with barrel harmonics more.

One mini wolf was already sitting in the gun case this afternoon had to shoo him out so I could glue everything down lol.

Looking forward to seeing how your cast bullets come out!

Got the lower inleting done

Any special color you like for the 458 bullets, they guy on the cast boolits forum sells powder coat of I'll get some at eastwoods.

should get some pink for del lol.
Doesn't matter to me..... His wife kapu'd his 50 beowulf..... She's not a big fan of pink either.... It's hard to get 50 cal bullets right now..... I'm thinking I might need to buy you another die and mold.....

we could do some 50s think my buddy still has the 50 mould I traded him, I still have about 30 50cal bullets here I didn't coat year. I think there 450grain pointed if they will work I'll coat them and send with the others.

Here are the colors the guys from castboolets has, blue and red coat pretty good. Or if you like bacon he has bacon grease color. Has John Deere green to.

I was thinking about just spray painting dells bullets pink and calling it powder coat.......

I don't really have a preference any of the colors look good to me.... My real question is does the bacon grease smell like bacon....

No but I did see where a guy added bacon smell, and a guy used bacon grease for bullet lube. But it's a pain to get the salts out of bacon grease, it needs to be boiled a few times and filtered.

Looks awesome, need a thin piece of foam inbetween. Is there any worrie the coating on the barrels will React with the foam, should be fine if it's cured all the way tho.
I can get another small piece of foam or something, I think it should be all right though I put in retention straps across the scopes and the barrels
The only part that really sticks up is the bolt handle on the gun and that's made a nice divot and the other side to hold it in place.
I do still need to figure out how I'm going to put in the toolbox I think I'm just going to cut it out and drop in a plastic box or something.

I don't think the duracoat will mess with the foam..... I suppose we'll see as I got the parts in I'm just going to leave them there for the next day or two

The stock gap looks better then I thought it would, the 458 just looks fun lol.
The 270wby barrel required more inletting around the shank since its actually supposed to be on a win70, and I didn't do a real great job of it. I'll probably have to go back and even it out and clean it up..... but yeah the gap is pretty impressive, I don't think we'll have to worry about anything touching unless a rock stuck between the barrel and the stock.

And immediately I'm most curious about the 458 I think it'll be a blast.
