The worst bolt action rifle of all time?

I don't have any idea how Savage manages to get the accuracy they do from such a cheesy built rifle.

I agree, but because most will outshoot their owners skill level right out of the box, I can’t add it to my personal “worst list”

If you’re a Savage owner, you don’t show off your rifle (they are butt-ugly), you show people your target

When I worked at a gun shop, our buyer bought some 710s. None of them sold, mostly because none of the gun salesmen would show them to customers. They ended up being given away as raffle prizes at a duck dinner.

First prize was a 710.
Second prize was two 710s.

Made my morning!

I don't mind the blued or stainless ones in a decent stock. Love the barrel nut system and the triggers. This is my single shot converted BVSS that I've rebarreled a few times.

I'll take the last ditch Arisaka....Bonzai charging with wooden bullets...

But lets not forget that Remington went bankrupt and had to be restructured because of the 700 trigger lawsuits.

Take a standard 03, figure out ways to make it cheaper and easier to manufacture and don't worry too much about appearance. You end up with a lot of machined parts being replaces with ugly stamped ones. The expensive delicate, finely machined rear sig is replaced with a stamped, easier and quicker to manufacture piece.

Yup, if you want to improve your 03A3's accuracy and appearance, swap out the stamped trigger guard for a milled 1903 trigger guard.

Haha, I just got it....

Having a cute pup in the pic makes up for a whole lot of homely.
If that was my rifle I'd crown its butt and make it shoot backwards......

Really just doesn't have the same ring to it...........
so not only are dogs cuter than savages, even ugly dogs have better jokes :D

i forgot to add, that while they arnt the prettiest rifles savage bench guns arnt really unatractive.

Only experience with a military bolt gun Mosin Nagent thought I had done something wrong couldn't operate the bolt,it was near impossible to lift bolt as with my Ruger m77. I had to smack the bolt to get it to move, left a nice impression on my palm for the better part of the day and this was with surplus ammo not sure if was Russian or some other Com block country

Mine would be a Remington 770 or 783 (cant rememeber which model). First 4 shots blew the mag apart. Felt cheap and had way to much plastic. Totally unimpressed with it, sold it a few weeks later.

(EDIT, Looked it up, it was a 770 not a 783)

I'll throw my hat in the ring.

I nominate the Swiss 1889 for worst.
Incapable of more than a modest increase in power. Overly long and heavy receiver.
Had to be redone in short order (1889/96) to safely handle a moderately improved cartridge.

Every other bolt rifle was only polished up and slightly tweaked to make it militarily serviceable. This one just kept getting further and further from the original as they modernized it and had to move where the locking lugs were located.
And not to mention it was unsuitable for a carbine due to its extraordinarily long and heavy receiver.

Not all Savage bolt actions are ugly. Just most of them. The model 20 is quite decent looking

Carcano M38 carbine. Clunky, rough action, goofy clip feed, non-adjustable sights, floppy, rattling folding bayonet and brutal recoil in 7.35.....just ugh.

...and those literally dick-nosed bullets, that jam, so easy. My vote is also for the 6.8mm Carcano. When you're in the dirt, who wants a clip ejection hole, in the bottom of your stock?
