What revolver do you use for home defense?

I prefer my good old fashioned TRR8.

Wait…what? I’m almost speechless. Never saw a revolver set up like this.

So I’m not gonna judge. You be you. I am good with the light, but….ummm….AR iron sights? I can’t rationalize that. Does that really work?

And to answer the OP question, I don’t choose to use a revolver for HD.

Lol nah I just added those as a joke. Honestly though...they actually seem like they would work pretty good if I adjusted them right.

I don't use a revolver as my bedside gun but if I did, it would be my 4" 686+. I do have a S&W 640 357 mag in a drawer of my toolbox in the garage, in case I need it for something.

As much as I try to convince myself a revolver is the best tool for any job, I do keep my Springfield xd in 9mm as my nightstand gun, my ccw (S&w shield 45acp)sits on top.

That said I would choose my gp100 loaded with 38spl+p hollowpoints

I have a Sig 365xl with rail light for me. However, my wife uses a Smith 351c with a Hyskore grip light.

no revolver unless I'm worried about a bear attack. Then the super Redhawk comes out with max load 24xtp's. I know it works on bears.

When I was just starting out I liked to keep a S&W Model 10 with a 4" barrel, an HKS speed loader, and a Mag-Lite flashlight by the nightstand in the bedroom. With it's all aluminum construction and 4 D cell batteries. I figured I could always use it as a club if it came right down to it!

Those days are long gone though as I now have a SIG P229, three magazines, along with a SIG laser/light combo mounted on it for home defense.

Honestly kinda surprised. I figured there would be more home defense revolvers out there. Jokes aside, I think the TRR8 is a great option.

My only issue is that DA trigger. The SA is amazing. Better than some of the best SAA clones I've had. This DA though...it's something. It's great for a Smith. Performance Center definitely made a difference.

I'm just personally used to the Colt DA pull and I prefer it by a country mile. Unfortunately, they don't show much interest in making an 8 shot 357 with rails.

The revolver in the bedside box is a 4" 629 "No Dash" with night sights, Pachmayr Presentations, and loaded with WWB 240 gr JSP. This revolver also accompanies most nighttime excursions in our semi-rural mountain neighborhood.

It probably seems non-sensical to some here on the forum, but our biggest concern specifically at the house is a bear dropping into one of the bedrooms through an at-grade window. And yes, I am qualified to make that determination without needing the input of a "recognized defensive expert". Two-legged threats are secondary, but don't worry, we have those covered too... ;)

A duty style revolver is still extremely viable for home defense. People can "what if" these things to death. For every documented case of a revolver's firepower being inadequate, one can find a case of a semiauto auto also being inadequate due to malfunction or inadvertent mag ejection. You pays your money and you takes your chances- the key is being totally familiar and practiced with whatever you choose. This is coming from a person who likes both revolvers and semi-autos, and is willing to accept that each platform has distinctive advantages and disadvantages that don't automatically make one superior to the other for all applications.

I keep a S&W Model 10-10 loaded with HST 38+p loaded in a safe in my room next to a Glock 19. I would grab the Glock. Wife would grab the 10

In my gun safe I keep a S&W 629 with Cor-Bon 44 Special loaded on the inside of the door. The other loaded gun is a 1300 Defender 12 gauge.

My home defense revolver is also my EDC revolver, an old S&W Model 19. Honestly, though, I'm not very impressed with handguns as fighting tools, and my true home defense guns are 12 gauge.

I'll duck out of this one, as I really hate revolvers.. Just a personal thing.
But for the record I use a 12g pump for HD, and always have a 9mm on my hip, with a LCP380 on my ankle as a backup.
