I don't know that I will ever be on the top of this one as I just started recently, but my new (last year) S&W 642 just fired its 302nd round yesterday at the range. I have this crazy desire, and perhaps especially since it has the stupid lock, to try to put 10,000 rounds through it--or more! :D

Now, as they say, Rome weren't built in a day, so this could take me a long, long time. It would help if I can find cheap ammo, in fact I really would need to do reloading. Also would need to move to the sticks so I can have an outdoor range of my own. Well not sure I will get very far, but it is a dream.

Meanwhile, those of you who have put 1000s of rounds through a gun, what is the most you have shot in that particular handgun or did you not keep count?

If this turns out to be a popular topic, someone can start the same for rifles and/or shotguns.

The one gun I have put more rounds through bar none is a Ruger Mk.II. I've never really tried to keep count so all I can say is well over a 5,000rd case.

Centerfire would be a 1911A1 and a S&W Model 28. Didn't keep track there either, but I'm confident it's well north of 1k rounds given that I used to run the club range back in the day, spent a lot of time reloading, and otherwise didn't have a life back then (before marriage and family). Would be more, but I like to shoot a lot of different guns, or did anyway back when, but a wife and kids eat up my time and money!

15K documented rounds through my M&P CORE 9L so far, probably 25K through my P226 but I haven't kept formal track. 15K through my Ruger MKIII 22/45 but I had to replace the upper at about 12K due to flaking/bolt impact erosion around the chamber. Still doesn't work 100% but it's better than it was. It ran for 10K without a single malfunction but then got weird.

I would say that would have to be my Beretta Model 70S. Have had it for over 40 years now and besides on going with me on every trip to the range it's also taught scores of family and friends the basics of semi-auto pistol shooting.

How many rounds? Hard to say but easily in the thousands; probably well more than that!

My S&W M&P Shield 9mm (version 1) has over 6,000 rounds through it, and it's still going strong! It has not had a single malfunction either (knock on wood).

My next highest round count gun is my Ruger LCP (version 1, gen 2) with over 5,000 rounds! However, unlike my S&W Shield, that gun has needed a frame replacement (polymer cracked) and a few other small parts replaced (including multiple takedown pins) in order to reach that number.

Cowboy guns are all over 2K
AR is over 4k
Rem 1100 is over 6K
Colt ACE is over 12k

Total on others ??

I don't try to keep a round count, I just make sure all have been fired

39.8k through this MKII that I bought in the early 1980's.

After the first 1200 rounds the sight came loose so I used red loc-tite; this past year I decided to remove the original and update to the fiber optic Williams fire sight. I put the barrel in the freezer and the next day I took it out and tapped the screw head with a brass punch to break the loc-tite seal

Only other thing that has happened in the early 1990's was the extractor broke and Ruger sent me a new one, it's been shooting fine since.

Many people learned how to shoot with this pistol over the years... :D

I have a Glock 17 that I had a pretty steady count on until it broke a rail at right around 150K. It actually had more, as I was going on a basic 300 rounds a week count, which was the minimum I was shooting out of it at the time, but a lot of times I would shoot more.

Glock replaced the frame and rebuilt the rest of the gun. That was back in 2019, and to be fair, its basically a new gun now, as the only original parts are the slide and barrel, but Ive still been shooting it every week since. Ive quit counting, but its probably got another 40K or so through it since anyway.

I also have a 26 that I had right around 26K on it when I quit counting a number of years back. I still shoot that at least every other week, sometimes more, but it only gets maybe 500 rounds a month through it at most.

The only other guns Ive had in the past that Im sure were well past the 17 in round counts would be a couple of SMG's I had. Those guns were shot pretty much every week for the first 20 years or so I had them, and then a couple of times a month for another 10 or so. Early on, that was often at least a case a week and sometimes more. I didn't pay for all that ammo, but anyone wanting to shoot would bring what they could and we all shot what we had. Lots of fun. :)

I like that holster. Would you tell me what company made it?

I've got 6,600 through a .357 GP100 (mostly .38's), 5,600 through a S&W 929 and highest round count in a semi-auto is a CZ 75B with 3,400. 10,000 rounds through a 642 sounds painful.

my Kimber 1911 had 20k+ when I rebar led it several years ago. I have almost 10K through my Canik that I shoot in competition. My MK2 must be working on 100K by now but I don't really keep track.

Toughly 20k through my Glock 34, maybe a couple thousand more. I carried that gun for about 15 years. Besides fun practice and weekend competitive shooting in local police matches, I shot at monthly SRT training and qualified 15 times a year with it. (Monthly SRT 50-round and general 30-round trimester qualifications)

Absent some grip dings and a bit of holster wear, still looks good and shoots like new.

Stay safe.

When I was working in training at the range I shot 50 rounds every afternoon for 5 days a week and some weekends for 3 years with my 4506 and it still shoots as good today 11 years later after retirement.

Stopped counting rounds through the Series 70 around 6200. Officer's has easily two grand. The Gov't 380 is over 2K as well. The Camp 45 is between 3 & 5 thousand. The Nylon 66 is in similar numbers. The 03A3 is probably near 3K. My IHC Garand was well over 5 grand from being in so many Service Rifle competitions. My A2 has untold thousands run through it (going to T.I.G.E.R. Valley added those up).

Your alloy J frame will wear a egg shaped locking bolt hole in the recoil shield and the cylinder will fail to carry up. S&W won't warranty the frame. I have worn out two Alloy J frames past serviceable use. Have never kept track of rounds fired. My hand and wrist felt every round.

Sounds like I need a different gun, stainless steel maybe. A S&W Model 66 would do the trick nicely. 2.5" barrel is a little better than my 642's 1.875" barrel. And the 66 holds 6 rounds.

Well I don't know about pain, but it will be tedious in the reloading department with a capacity of 5.
