Just curious to know what amount of wear a typical THR member puts on their favorite handgun...

To clarify, what is the largest round count you have put through a single handgun in your shooting career? Not the total rounds you have fired, not an average of all your handguns--just the round count for the handgun you have shot the most.

If you've fired more than 100,000 I would be interested to know what the total count was, and what kind of handgun.

Thanks!

I have over 100K through my Buckmark, still runs and shoots great. I also took a Springfield Mil-Spec 1911 through 100K rounds, though you would not have recognized it several times over with custom work and one complete overhaul. Sold it a few years ago, for more than I paid for it new. Next up on heavy mileage guns currently in my possession yet is a M19 Smith that is over 50K rounds. I sold a Glock years ago that me and my shooting buddies put over 70K through, and I bought it HEAVILY used. I never even changed a spring in that gun. 100K would be a very conservative guess on the Glock, 150K wouldn't surprise me in the least.

I have a LOT more guns and different interests now, doubt any will get the mileage or the treatment guns I owned used to get. I can only see my USPSA guns getting extreme round counts through them now.

100k+

Gov't Model of 1911 , bone stock.
All Steel Colt Combat Commander , bone stock.

If asked, though wrong forum.

Over 200K rds thru a 1974 Win Super X Model 1

I did compete using Pachmayr Decelarator with recoil pad on it - other than that - again bone stock.

Handguns are gone, stolen. The SX1 is still running strong.

Like H, I too have some high rd counts thru others - just these show highest rd counts examples of quality guns, of quality metallurgy, craftmanship, and design.

I have "assisted" with the 300k+ rd count of a 870 Wingmaster in 28 ga also...we shared this gun...

Browning buckmark camper, 5 years old. Guessing somewhere about 200,000rds. About 1000-1500rds a week for the first few years I had it, and 250-500rds a week more recently. Still counting.

Right around 10k through my Kimber. It tends to go out with me just about every other week and I put between 200 and 300 rounds through it every time. I really like this gun. :D

Had a Ruger Single-Six that I bought back in the late 80's. At last count, I'd put more than 250,000 rounds through it.

The transfer bar broke at about 200,000 rounds. I called Ruger, told 'em what happened, how many rounds had been through the gun.... They had wanted me to send the gun in to them, but I told the lady I was talking to that I'd rather just retire it than trust it to the mail. So... they sent me another transfer bar. :D

I ended up selling the old gun about 2 years ago.... Wish I still had it.

ROA

Started shooting my favorite handgun..back in 1976.....Ruger Old Army....first year out of the box..just over 6000 rounds of lead ball downrange. At the time...and the place....was the most economical, other than .22, caliber I could afford to shoot..a lot. Lead was free..got a big break on caps....same on powder when bought in five pound kegs.
Without going into details.....was a time of no cable..satellite...dvds...not even near a city for that matter...shooting almost dailey was my recreation.
Still shooting the same ROA.....somewhere between 120000..150000...stopped counting....could be more.

I quit counting how many rounds I've put through my Glock 23 at 16,000 about three years ago, so I'm guessing I've put 20,000 to 25,000 rounds through it without a single malfunction of any kind.

THis isn't my handgun but I know someone who has over 500,000 rounds through thir gun. It has been his carry gun since MArch 5th 1996. He sais it still shoots as good today as it did when he bought it new.

Kimber SS Target IIe: 20,000+a few more. I shot and carried this gun for a bit more than one year. It still looks new, inside and out and is very accurate.

That is a lot of money my friends. Even if it is 9mm ammo at $10/100 that is roughly $50K for ammo!!!:what:

Over 40,000 through Glock 17 purchased in '95 as CHL "loaner gun". Shot it once or twice myself. ;)

And yea, you CAN stop up a Glock. At around 34,000 and lots of Blaser ammo, the trigger went completely mushy. Normal "field stripping and cleaning" (around every 1000 rounds whether it needed or not) did not make the gun go bang. Super-serious Glock buddy took it down to the itty bitty pieces and told me to call him before I ever let it got that far again ... :D

Really can't say. I loose track. In my most fired gun, it's probably bettween 2 and 3 thousand rounds.

My highest "mileage" pistol was a Glock 22. I used this gun for about 18 months while stationed in SE Arizona, and was "between wives" so I had nothing to distract me from shooting. I was averaging about 1,000 rounds/month at a minimum, for a total round count (roughly) of about 18-20K in 18 months. The VAST majority of those rounds were 170 grain LFP reloads, done by yours truly. # of "kabooms" - 0, despite the dreaded "unsupported chamber," the use of the deadly "lead reloads" and the fact that, in those days, I reloaded brass until I could see a split in the case...

Regards,

Kevin

I put about 4,500 rounds thru my bersa
383A 380acp before i sold it.My wife
ran about 80,000 round thru her buck-
mark before she sold it and bought a
ruger Mk II.I think she has put about
6,000 rounds thru it.

How Many?

Well, John...Lemme seeeeee

Got a pair of '91A1 Colts here with about 130,000 each. Not sure of the exact number, but there was an Ithaca that probably saw close to 200,000
before it gave up the ghost...after the third rebuild... :D

Roughly 130,000 through my first CZ75 9mmP - 500 rounds almost every weekend for about 5 years (just about all handloads - barrel was last miked at .360" :what:

Norinco 1911a1 .45 had about 40,000 before it was stolen :cuss:

Just over 25k on my favorite Hi-Power - broke the recoil spring guide, firing pin retaining plate, slide stop, and one KKM match barrel during that time.

With 114 responses, we have a decent sample set.

Apparently 60% of THR members haven't put more than 10K rounds through a handgun.

I think it's a given that THR members are likely to shoot more than the average gun owner.

I think it's also safe to say that a person's AVERAGE handgun clearly gets fewer rounds than their FAVORITE.

SO, I think it's very safe to say the following:

1. A large majority (more than 60%) of handgun owners will never fire 10K rounds through a handgun.

2. Most handguns (more than 60% of them) will have less than 10K rounds fired through them.

In reality, given that the survey is heavily weighted to get high round-count results (both in terms of the people surveyed, and in terms of the way the survey focuses on the most used gun owned by a particular person) the 60% figure is almost certainly very low.

There's a little grey area with conclusion #2 since a person's favorite handgun may have been someone else's favorite handgun at one time. Even so, I don't think that's enough to change the conclusion as stated.

I just ordered 50K more primer in large pistol. last order was august 05. order before that november 04. subtract two or three thouand for 45 Colt and 44 mag, the rest all are 45 auto.since Jan 04 lets say 147,000 rounds of 45 between three pistols. Replaced maybe 20 recoil springs, five main springs (the flat ones) and three hammer springs. Prolly average 1200 per week.
