Saw one in stock at a gun store and there are a ton of them on Gunbroker. This is an old model. I like that it's huge and all metal. Fun range gun it would seem? I have medium sized hands but long fingers. It has been officially discontinued too so maybe I should grab one while we still can?

I was thinking about buying another 1911 as I don't have one right now but 10 rounds versus seven or eight? I had a nice Springfield Loaded in Stainless that I sold, don't like Stainless pistols, I would get a Parkerized Mil Spec or the Loaded Parkerized but I'm think the 97B might just be a bit more fun to shoot? I know the 1911 trigger will likely be a bit better but I'm not that hot of a pistol shot and I've owned 1911s, I like them a lot but I am not a total 1911 fanatic.

Was thinking of a 75 SP-01 but the 97B has caught my eye. My only other F/S 9mm is a G17 and then I have a lot of C&R and subcompact 9mm. But I also have the S&W 625-8 and I always liked shooting the 625 and the 1911 together, an alternating between the revolver and the semi auto shooting the same round, it was amazing how different two .45 ACP pistols could feel in comparison. I have a feeling I will also get a 75 SP-01 when finances permit too so not sure if I should get the 97B or the 75 SP-01 first?

Opinions?

I have a 97B coming in July, after some trading and a small amount of cash. I’ll have it in July! CANNOT WAIT!!!

The handle is gigantic.

I love big handles / grips, but this was even too much for me.

I bought mine and sold mine without even firing it.

I even tried the thin grips, and they were a no-go.

The Tangfolio 45 ACPs have a smaller handle.

The Glock 21 even has a smaller handle.

It is the softest shooting .45acp out there! There are several options for thin grips. If you have long fingers, you’ll do fine.
I converted mine to SAO because the loooong DA trigger pull was too long for me. SA was no problem. There are a few internal polishing tasks that will make its trigger rival a 1911– yes, really. It is my favorite gun to shoot after my 1911s. Check out Cajun Gun Works for mods & upgrades.

Thank you for posting your experience with it Stan. How large are your hands? My friends and family often have a hard time shooting my S&W 625-8 because it's big with the big Hogue grips
but it fits my hand like a glove. I need to handle it at the gun store some more but I don't think the size is a detriment for me, especially for a range toy.

If 10 rounds is the max capacity allowed in your state get the 97b.

Pretty sure you will like the 97b even more.
Also, there are thin grip options out there for it.

Yep, 10 rounds only in California. Unless we get a good ruling on our court case, Duncan vs. Bonta, which could happen with Justice Thomas' ruling in the NYRPA case, hopefully re-defining case scrutiny for the rabidly anti 2A 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, fingers crossed.

i wear size 7.5inch surgical gloves and it is too big for my hands front to back but still fun to shoot. the thin aluminum grips are slick which doesn't help any. for reloads, bullet ogive and seating depth is important as it has the most abrupt leade compared to my other 45s, a sigp220 and 2 1911s. i decided to put lok grips and brought it to the range last Friday. i was going to see how i do with lok grips and gloves. i also wanted to see how i would do with a clear front sight focus with target blurred and shot with my reading glasses.

it is an accurate gun. my gun has the rear sight replaced and as mentioned new lok grips but is otherwise stock. if it fits your hand close enough you will like it.

We just knew all the board's CZ fans (including me) would be checking in :) And we all know that CZ-75 design pistols have that iconic, cool look (and the CDI factor as well).

If you plan on collecting CZs, definitely buy it.

I would agree it's one of the "softest-shooting" full size .45 pistols out there (maybe not the softest-shooting) but that's because it's a honkin' big pistol with a lot of weight forward. I will state that I traded mine off as I was trading up for another 1911 since I just enjoy shooting 1911s more -- and my 97 (made in 2017) had a sub-par trigger among other things. With the factory sights and grips, it wasn't really any fun to shoot. But, like everything else, that's just my subjective opinion....

So the OP wants another range toy -- are you wedded to something CZ? If so, by all means, buy one now -- they're discontinued and really nice pistols. Are are you simply looking at non-1911 .45 options for range use?

While I love almost every hammer-fired, metal-framed pistol on the CZ-75 platform, I found the 97 just a bit impractical for me as I like my .45s to function as carry pistols and it just didn't pack or conceal as well as this, another 10-round .45(11 ounces lighter, 3.9" vs. 4.65" barrel), plus the SRT trigger better than the CZ's, with better sights:

any recommendations on grips… Not fond of LocGrips. Don’t like the name. Got med hand. Looking for extra thin

Considering the fact CZ killed the 97 this January, if you want one better hurry up.

I've got 2 CZ 97. The one after a trip to CGW is more accurate than my Dan Wesson 1911s.
It's the softest, smoothest 45 I own and have shot.
One 97, is now SAO, is waiting on a barsto threaded barrel, at much point it will make it's way down south for a E-mod conversion, red dot and hard chrome.

I've got medium to large hands based upon glove size and I've have no problem with the gun. In fact they both wear lok grips palm swells.

I am six feet tall and 225lbs and wear a large sized glove so I am not a huge person.

I highly suggest you handle one before purchasing if you can.

Since it is a range toy, my concerns may be invalid as I feared my trigger finger would slip off the double action trigger under stress due to the long reach.

My experience is only fondling one in a gunstore, and my opinion is I want one. But I would suggest trying before buying, they are pretty hefty guns and I could see the grip not fitting a number of people (I have XL hands and find a Gen 4 Glock 21 is a perfect fit for my hands). If you're just looking for a fun .45, a Sig 220 is always a ball of fun and I find holds up well even with my 1911s. Same goes for the HK45 and HK45c.

I would buy a Legion 227 yesterday. Doubly so for a 4" barrel version weighing in at around 28-30 oz unloaded (which it should be pretty close to that). Triply so in 10mm.

what did CGW do to your 97? I sent them a Shadow 2 for work and they did an amazing job

My 97 will be in line soon for some CGW treatment. Not because it necessarily needs it but because if it’s this good stock I want to experience the next level
