Right now or atleast the last two weeks . THE COLD it got to 20 today in asheville nc at the indoor range an it is unheated. Home was 5* this morning. HEHE Typicaly I shoot ever week and rotate between calibers and handguns and rifles. Might take 2 months to get back to the same gun.
I voted ammo, but I also can't shoot as much as I'd like even though I live on 60 acres in the middle of nowhere, because my grandmother/neighbor complains about the noise... I guess she's just getting old and doesn't like a lot of noise, so I shoot sparingly.
Mostly cost, but I've grown past the stage of wanting to shoot all the time anyway. When I found out I wouldn't forget how if I went a few months without shooting, a whole new world of activities opened up for me...
For me it's time, I got ammo, and I got a range right outside my back porch. Unfortunately I currently don't have the time. Hopefully this year it should settle down later on and I can get hunting and plinking again.
I couldn't pick just one. :banghead: Cost and availability of ammo, distance to a range (and accompanying cost of fuel), and weather (everything is outdoors, and it has been cold and snowy lately) are all factors.
Something else. I already go a couple of times a week and shoot between 75 and 150 rounds per trip. So for me, that is plenty. I'd shoot more often (but fewer rounds per shoot) if I was lucky enough to live where I could shoot in my back yard.
Kids are too young. When they get older we can shoot together. But right now I spend too much time away from them with work. Not going to separate myself from them even more to spend a lot of time at the range.
Certain knowledge that wife keeps track of the number of times I go and do "guy stuff" and when I don't balance it out with shopping for handbags and shoes, she uses it as an excuse to sulk.
For those or you who have problems shooting in the cold, get a portable propane heater. I bought one for about $80 from Home Depot and it works great at the range.
The fact that I just got myself an Arctic Cat 400 4x4 atv, I've been riding this thing around the mountains of Colorado in the snow, its off the hook! For now, the shooting has taken a back seat.
Due to the amount of hours I work I try to be home as much as I can with my family. I try to get to the range at least a couple times a month. If I can do that I'm happy.
Closest range is outdoor only, 25 minutes away, and $27 per day.
Next closest is 35 mins away indoor and pistol caliber only at $25/hour.
After that is an indoor range 50 mins away with the same restrictions and prices as above.
usually work but the cost of ammo is also a reason. I have 2 sometimes three jobs (I get called up by a friend when he needs help). So I rarely have time to go, but I do get at least once a month in. I would like 3 times a month but not currently possible.
Its just rare to find time to get to the range. I used to hunt deer. I'd be sitting there, watching...waiting...and thinking of all the things I needed to be doing at home. When I go to the range now, my wife is at home...waiting...thinking of all the things she has for me to do at home.
So for me, its the time thing. However! I did make the range trip today,(Sat. 1/9/10), because I NEEDED to test some reloads in the M1. wifey understood.
