I have owned two one was a stainless steel the other a marlin model twenty five you can' go wrong they are cheap but not cheap made and by the way they are very accurate with ruger you are just buying more name their guns won't shoot any better

$197 at Walmart for a marlin 22 magnum, and 2 magazines(4 rd an 7 rd). How can you not buy it at that price. Muzzle velocity is in the 2,100-2,300 fps range, a 3-9x scope puts you thru 100 meters. The only problems seems to be an occasional failure to extract with the 4 round mag. A semi auto would be nicer, but not at $350-$700. The stainless steel deluxe model will run you more, but for a baseline 22 magnum rifle, you can't miss.

My Marlin 25M has killed many ground hogs over the years. I would not hesitate to buy another if I needed a 22 mag. Hard to beat for the money.

Same on this end.

From my experiance and looking around, the pro Eskimo's out hunting have a heavy preference to .22Mag Marlin Tube feds and mag fed bolt actions are only SECOND to a pump Winchester mod 62 .22Mag as the Favorite, most accurate, most reliable "Fur gun".
Unlike the Winchester, the Marlin is not running 800$.........~~LOL!!~~
Used all winter for checking traps or shooting and scooting at -40 when Wolves, Wolverine, Fox,Otter, ect. are too cold to sit still as well as too cold to run.......just trott.
They are also very popular with Seal hunters who make close up head shots, but dont want to "push" the Seal down in the water , just pith 'em through that thin skull.

On land, Winchester or Remington Solids 100 yards is a fairly easy kill with well placed rounds, and it dosent ruin fur with big holes. The remington is more reliable of the ttwo makers if your hunting at extream temps.

Small game and Fur...you cant go wrong with a Marlin Bolt action for hunting small game and fur.

Marlins are good guns but will need some trigger work.

so far the only marlin 22 mag i have had good luck with is the SS

had a few of the 900 models (941 etc) and all were right on on the first and 2nd shot after that it was all over the place 6in sq at 100yd,
(took a chance on this 883 because it seems marlin is the most 22MAG on the market)

and it is right on every time , it will be a keeper.

Have an older Marlin 882 SSV (stainless heavy barrel) 22 mag I bought new back in the mid 1990s for around $189. Its been a decent 22 Mag. Never had a problem or malfunction with it. Trigger is not so hot, but it will do the job.

just got a like new 25MN mag fed for 125 at a pawn shop...shoots like a dream...4-12 scope on it...

Can I recommend the Savage 93 BTVS? Dicks has it on sale for $300 w/scope. I got one a while back and loooooove it.

I have the MArlin 925M and I love it! It was my first rifle, and we still take it shooting regularly. At 50 yards, I can easily keep 4 round groups within an inch using the stock iron sights. I think the trigger is great, nice and crisp. I would definitely recommend it.

My Marlin 882 SS might be the best value gun I've ever bought. Only drawback is the trigger isn't so great. I polished it some so it is better tho. It'll shoot 1.5" at 100 yards with 40 grain CCI hp's and cheapie 3-9X40 scope. Would easily shoot sub moa with a glass trigger. For a $300 .22 mag combo I'd definitely reccommend the base SS marlin and spend your leftover cash on a scope.

I have decided to buy a 22 mag rifle as well and have the same question as butcherboy. From what I can tell, there is no bull barrel option for the tube fed design. How important is a bull barrel compared to the tube feed?

Neither bull barrel or tube feed is going to add to or take away from intrinsic accuracy. A bull barrel may make you shoot a rifle more accurately b/c it add more weight.

recently found a marling 57m (made from 50's-60's) shoots great and a lever to boot to match your revlover. first day at the range with the scope that i picked it up with(some cheap off brand) and 1.5inch group at 100(4-5 rounds). I gound mine at a pawn shop for 280 otd, but you need to shop around gunbroker they sit around 3-400. lever action and tubular mag how can you go wrong?

was wanting a 57m when i found that 883, still might get one if the price is right.

I owned a Marlin 25MN for many years and absolutely loved it. The only reason I sold it was to buy a Marlin 882SS to take it's place. Great Rifle for the $.
