marlin 22 mag rifles

i have a revolver that shoots 22mag. im looking for a rifle to go with it.

ive been looking at the Marlins.

are the marlin 22mag bolt actions any good?

or what other brand does anyone recommend.
id like to stay under $300. and wouldnt mind a used rifle.

Yes, the Marlin is what you want. They are great rifles, very accurate and inexpensive. I think I paid $95 for mine used. They are well under $300 new I believe.

I have two different Marlins one is older (60's) and one about a year old Love them both. Also have a REM 922 ? I think. Like the marlins better. They feel better and seem more accurate IMHO.

The Marlin's are good shooters,..though the triggers can be a bit creepy. I have had one for a lot of years.....it dot's eyes at 100 yards all day long.

i have a marlin 925m that i use for squirrel and it is deadly! after ruining some meat while i was still learning i decided to only take head shots. the marlin had the accuracy to acomplish this.......even past 100 yards!

My marlin 22 mag had some issues with extraction, and a closer look at the extractor reveals why. It is essentially just a peice of metal that has been bent over. Compare this to the extractor on the Savage. The savage is sharp, clean, and machined providing much more positive extraction.

If I had it to do over I would get a used CZ, Savage as a second pick.

My brother and I both have Marlin 22 magnums, they both have failure to extract issues. HGUNHNTR is right, the extractor is a very poor design. The issue is more with the 4 rd mag than the 7 rounder, but you do have to open the bolt slowly, and make sure the spent case comes out, before you rechamber the next round. Follow up shots are real slow. Other than that, the rifle is a tack driver.

With Marlins microrifling design for decades, they are tackdrivers for the most part. And not finicky with any bullet weight.

are there any extraction problems with the "tube fed" designs? or is it just a mag issue?

It was an extractor issue with mine, and I would expect on many others as well. Next time you can compare marlin to cz or savage look at the extractors, and you will see what I mean.
