Have any of you drawn and shot anotehr person in self defense? If so, what happened in the aftermath? Any legal headaches? Any guilt? Was the would-be assailant injured/paralyzed/killed?

I'm still very new to shooting and I really hope I don't see the day when I am forced to shoot to save my life. I'm just curious what your experience was like if you were faced with that situation.

Thanks,
Tom

I've shot a few dogs in self-defense- no legal problems, it was on my propety.

Another time before that I fired to SCARE a dog. That nearly got me in a LOT of trouble.

In the US as a civilian, I haven't had to shoot another person..

I doubt many that have will be willing to talk about it on an Internet forum. Pretty personal question really.

No and I hope that is the way it is going to stay. Yes I joined the Vt Air National Guard but I am Medical Admin:). Not to say if my life or others around me where in immediate danger I would protect myself and others if necessary if lethal force, I just hope that will never happen.

It's been discussed before. Most people who have had to kill someone, in self defense, in the line of duty or in war, won't necessarily just blurt out all the details.

In my case, it was war. No legal headache, but I did face an inquiry, which I gather is SOP. A little guilt, but that passed. In that fire fight, several were killed, several were injured and a few got away.

I didn't realize that that tios subject might be a bit touchy. Again, I am new to the world shooting. My apologies, but thank you for responding

I am mentally prepared to do anything, including shoot someone that threatens my life or a close family member's life. I wouldn't talk about it until after court.

I'll speak for everyone here.

Some may of in a self defense or military capacity, but majority have not and 100% of us never want to be in a position to have to shoot someone.

Everyone here knows they will never be put in that position, but sit down and die isn't a good plan of action.

I don't remember

(but I'm SHOCKED that I finally got to post in one of these threads before a Mod closes it)

If one has shot someone, one generally will wisely refrain from discussing it publicly, for numerous reasons.

I have come close enough to have the shakes, but never had to pull the trigger. Trust me, you NEVER want to go there if you can at all possibly avoid it.

I had a very close friend, since deceased, that had to defend his family and himself a number of years ago. The legal issues almost ruined him financially, and he never lived down the emotional distress. It was a very bad time for all involved. RIP Joe.

No, never shot some one period.

I have heard quite a few recounts of shootings from the shooter. The least mentioned aspects are caliber and weapon details. Some observation won't be posted by me.

After math generally a non issue. Some were LEO in the line of duty. In one the mother of the perp thanked the officer that shot hers son. Obviously it was more involved than I am going into.

One guy I know shot 2 guys at once. Without going into details; The shooter sought help to deal with the mental aspects of what he went through. I knew people on both sides of the shooting. Peoples reactions were quite surprising to me.

I know a few guys that got shot as well. One was hit on four different occasion in military operations overseas. Another was shot on 3 different occasions by a .22lr in the leg.

I don't want to be involved in any aspect of a shooting.
