It's been a few years since I saw this gentleman on TV, but he was interviewed a lot by history channel and military channel programs. He was portly and had glasses. Would handle firearms and explain their function and historical significance. Usually wore white gloves while handling the guns.
I think he naught have been a curator of some sort. Definitely knew his stuff and unlike most people on TV he didn't annoy the stuffing out of me. I don't remember him hosting programs but he was featured on quite a few.
In the background there was usually racks of guns.

Any one know his name?

Probably won't ever see him (or anyone like him) again as there wasn't any created drama written into the show.

I just saw Atwater again in the past month on a recent production. Seems like it might have been "Greatest Tank Battles" or the like.

I remember thinking at the time that the format for the current crop of shows must have left him and his kind behind. I always liked his no-nonesense factual approach to the weapons he was highlighting.

Atwater has the greatest job ever!
Would be fun to sit down with him and talk guns some day. The guy is a walking encyclopedia.

Don't ya just love looking at the stuff behind him while he's talking and marvel at being able to glom all that hardware at work... after donning his spiffy white protective gloves of course.
