'Way to go Tom! I also watch your flying show. Now if we can get Comcast to put them in their "on demand" section.......

Great idea. Can't wait to see the show. I think you will get some good show ideas/topics from THR readers. Clint is a trip, can't wait to what he did.

Just called my wife and had her start recording it.

The Outdoor Channel is one of the best channels out there. I am glad they let you get it by itself instead of having to get a package deal.

Can't wait to check it out.

Just watched the show, excellent job by all involved. The safe usage of an ATM segment is worth watching in and of itself.

And a special thanks for not making it as boring as many firearms programs tend to be.

Did the NTI clip make it to the tube? I missed it, Ken.

Mas, when I heard your words in LFI - they became words to live by. So true!

Tom,

I liked the advertisements. You can tell S&W that I'm going to buy a 625 :) Please make sure to mix them up a bit and get some SIG, Glock, Rock River, and such in there! I'd love to see a Les Baer or Browning HiPower ad.

I found this first episode to be extremely basic. Do you crank up the skills shown over the course of the season?

They went to Valhalla.

This week's Episode Title/Number: 1
Welcome to the first episode of Personal Defense TV. This week, host Tom Gresham joins Rob Pincus at the Valhalla Training Center to learn the difference between recreational target shooting and defensive shooting. This “efficiency of fire” takes place on the range and in a 360-degree live-fire realistic environment. Next, judge for yourself if Taurus’s “The Judge” .45 Colt/.410 revolver is the ultimate vehicle “Survival Tool” as Technical Editor Dick Metcalf takes the stubby scattergun to task. In “Reality Check,” Massad Ayoob explains that there are unsafe ATM machines and less unsafe ATM machines. After showing you what to look for when choosing an ATM, Ayoob goes through steps you can take to reduce your chances of being attacked when using one. And in “Skills Drill” we take you step-by-step through drawing and reholstering from a strong side holster both to fire and ready positions.

Sorry to be slow checking back. I've been out shooting a hard drive. .357 does a better job on them than the 9mm, but 9mm is ok.

I said I didn't really like the term "gunfighting school."

I guess it sounds like something the New York Times would say. I've never heard the Chapman Academy, or Thunder Ranch, or Gun Site use such a term. They usually call their beginning course something like "Defensive Handgun." Gunfighting to my very subjective ear sounds like the kind of term the guys use who go around all dressed in black with H & K T shirts on. I shoot both IDPA and IPSC as well as target matches, and I know that even other shooters can look at action pistol shooters as dangerous wannabes. There's a reason IPSC and IDPA discourage camouflage and shirts with sayings on them like "kill them all and let God sort them out." And a large part of any really good training is how to avoid gun fights.

But that's all just me. Thanks for putting together the new show. I have it taped and look forward to watching it.

Can't wait for all the "experts" that think because they watched it on TV, they're now fully qualified to be the new super-elite tactical defence person of thier town. While I'm sure, very sure, it'll have very good content, simply watching isn't anywhere's near as incompassing or educational as actually being at one of these well established and respected schools for the hands-on instruction. Copying what you see on the TV doesn't allow any critquing from those that actually DO know this subject matter. It's that personal tough that makes taking the classes so much more useful.

And a large part of any really good training is how to avoid gun fights.

Time was given to that very subject, which was a pleasant surprise. This isn't a slap-dash production. It's evident that cogent thought has been devoted to this project.

People interested in personal protection and wishing to become technically and tactically proficient are portrayed in a positive light. As opposed to the knuckle daggers that the press likes to claim we are.

P.S. For some reason the show was titled SELF DEFENSE TV in my on screen menu...don't know why.

Flatdog,

Thatnks for noticing that...during the taping of all the segments at Valhalla, we made sure to stress opportunities to avoid or escape conflict.

Your welcome,

Too often, I find people view avoidance as cowardice or at least tainted with it. You didn't leave that impression and in fact, clearly presented it as an effective tool for survival.

This definitely sounds like an interesting TV show, with a concept that's long overdue.

Valhalla is an incredible place. I only hope I'll get the opportunity to go back there again someday. Mr. Pincus is a great instructor, and the facility is absolutely top-notch. Those few hours we spent there just weren't long enough!

Just watched Self-Defense TV. Great show!

I would like to see more just like it.

Well done to all involved.

Even the commericals were good.

Please do all you can to continue this show.

Thanks

Probably. I don't know, I never really paid attention to watch for it to air.

The Team was given a production tape of the show and we watched it one afternoon at Study Group. Frankly, that's the last I asked about it or gave it any thought. I know when the film crew came by our stage, I requested not to be on camera. Donny walked them thru our stage, and I ran the target actuators. I am uncomfortable with that sort of attention and shy away from the public spotlight.

If you are curious about it, I can ask Skip when I see him tonight at the range.

I have DirecTV with the Outdoor Channel. It cost an extra $1.99 a month but is well worth it

I wish that channel was available on Directv.

It is, you either have to get the sports package or order the channel (606) ala carte as mentioned above. DirecTV will allow you to order any basic channel singly, you just have to call them.

Glad you liked it. Lots of fun stuff coming up. A "killer robot" with a knife tries to run down a shooter. Massad takes me down with a pin and spin move. Low light, catching bullets, shotgun use, submachine guns, AR-15 as a home defense gun, Gunsite, Valhalla, Thunder Ranch, S&W Academy, etc.
