The rifles look nice anyways
What do you guys think about the aptitude of using a good K31 with a 4x or lower scope (maybe an old Weaver or Redfield that have the blued steel tube, would fit the looks of the rifle well) as a deer gun? I've been toying with the idea of getting a milsurp as a hunting rifle, and the K31 certainly is beautiful and reportedly plenty accurate. How heavy are they?
Out of four different K-31s, a load comprising the 155gr. A-Max and 43gr. of Varget has not only shot well, but is very close to the sight markings out to 200yds.GREAT guns, Afy and gopguy
As much as possilble. However, fine reloads can be made with a variety of bullet weights and powders for the Swiss rifles.
I recently bought a box of the new Barnes "Matchburner" 175 grin .308 match bullets. Here is a picture that I took of .308 175 grain match projectiles from Barnes, Nosler and Sierra next to a projectile from a GP11 round. To my eye, the Barnes is closest. I've read that the Berger 175 gr VLD bullets are also close, but I refuse to pay almost $.50 per projectile for the Bergers.
Sierra MK, Nosler CC, Barnes MB, and GP11
I've been using 168 grain bullets in my Swiss with good results up until now. My best results came with 168 gr Hornady AMAX's and IMR 4064 powder. The results of a shoot off that I had with Prvi and my reloads in a 1911 SR (5 shots @ 100 yards):
Thanks LJ! Didn't know there was a thread for these (that search thingy prolly works). Look up my thread in the Rifle section for pics of my refinish. 1949 beech, it shoots like a dream. Best trigger IMO of any rifle I own. There will be more.Meanmrmustard just picked up a K31, so let's welcome him to the club!
Need to get her rolling again. Besides, I gotta get away from Ar threads, every time I go into one a fight gets started:banghead:You're welcome, sir! It's been 195 days since it was last replied to since I welcomed you, lol.
~On The Road Again...~
It'll get closed. Anytime I even mention S&W, colt fanboys start foaming at the mouth.LOL. That's okay, though. Let 'em hash it out. Or let the Moderators close it. Either way, not our problem.
I've got a thread going in the Handloading section. Posts of favorite loads, but I'm going to be starting from SCRATCH! I'll need a comprehensive list of everything I need.I'll let some of the other guys answer this one, I have this same question myself.
Hey crate, where'd you get the leather comb on that top rifle, the one with Swiss crest? I want that. The Swiss rifles are about the most accurate you well find, most are mil-surp shoot match winners.
The SP clamp on scope mount works great, no movement with them, amazing considering how quick and easy they attach. There are several aftermarket sight sets, diopter sets, even Mojo offers a set for the K31.
The sniper version are engineering marvels.
