K31 Picture/User Thread

1st time I've shot my K31 in probably a year, not sure why I don't shoot this more often? I was shooting scoped rifles at 100 yards and put a target at 50 for the K31.
The first 3 shots were touching and 50 got boring. Started shooting at 100 after I got comfortable with it and was doing almost as good as my scoped rifles.

God these things are accurate!

Nice rifles, guys! :D I recently got myself a nice K31 and I couldn't be happier with it. Unfortunately, mine didn't come with the soldier tag like I was hoping, but that's just an added bonus. Unfortunately, no pictures yet and I have only run about 2 boxes of GP11 through it so far but it is more accurate than I am for sure! Gonna start reloading for it soon also.

I saw this thread a couple days ago and had my K31 apart doing a little touch up/restoration work. It's an all #'s, (including bayonet) matching 1941. Troop tag was still under the buttplate, and of course, it's a shooter. Sorry to drag it back up, but I wanted to play too!

I got one for christmas this year just got the ammo in the other day so I still have to take it out yet.One question for everyone..Will re-finishing the stock take value away from it or are they worth doing it?Mine show's wear on the butt of the stock that I heard was normal for these rifles.

What do you guys think about the aptitude of using a good K31 with a 4x or lower scope (maybe an old Weaver or Redfield that have the blued steel tube, would fit the looks of the rifle well) as a deer gun? I've been toying with the idea of getting a milsurp as a hunting rifle, and the K31 certainly is beautiful and reportedly plenty accurate. How heavy are they?

I think it's great idea. From a power standpoint, more than powerful enough. From an accuracy standpoint, WAY more than accurate enough. To me, they're not too awfully heavy, but they are military rifles.

I've had a love affair with the Swiss rifles for a few years now and 8 or 10 of them have passed through my hands. I'm down to three: a '39 Walnut, a '45 Beech, and a '53 Beech that's my High Power rifle.

Haven't shot HP since last spring, but made our match yesterday shooting a 702-11X.

I don't have a lot of rifle pictures, but plenty of rifle/target pictures. The '39:

Sorry, none of the '45 as it's a spare so to speak.

The '53, my favorite:

Our first attempt ever at 600 yds. I was thrilled to say the least, especially considering the wind conditions:

When I first started collecting K-31's Military Gun Supply in Ft. Worth had GOBS of them all priced under $200, so I'd go there as often as I could. On one trip I met a gentleman who was also collecting them and was on a quest to own a K-31 from every year of production! He finally managed to find one from every year from 1933 to 1958. I was in the area of his home and stopped in to visit him. You can't imagine the feeling of walking into his den where he had K-31's lining the wall...one from every year they were produced. Quite amazing to say the least!

GREAT guns, Afy and gopguy

As much as possilble. However, fine reloads can be made with a variety of bullet weights and powders for the Swiss rifles.

I recently bought a box of the new Barnes "Matchburner" 175 grin .308 match bullets. Here is a picture that I took of .308 175 grain match projectiles from Barnes, Nosler and Sierra next to a projectile from a GP11 round. To my eye, the Barnes is closest. I've read that the Berger 175 gr VLD bullets are also close, but I refuse to pay almost $.50 per projectile for the Bergers.

Sierra MK, Nosler CC, Barnes MB, and GP11

I've been using 168 grain bullets in my Swiss with good results up until now. My best results came with 168 gr Hornady AMAX's and IMR 4064 powder. The results of a shoot off that I had with Prvi and my reloads in a 1911 SR (5 shots @ 100 yards):

Out of four different K-31s, a load comprising the 155gr. A-Max and 43gr. of Varget has not only shot well, but is very close to the sight markings out to 200yds.

Great thread guys, I just got my first one the other day off Gunbroker.com & cant wait to shoot it.

Meanmrmustard just picked up a K31, so let's welcome him to the club!
Thanks LJ! Didn't know there was a thread for these (that search thingy prolly works). Look up my thread in the Rifle section for pics of my refinish. 1949 beech, it shoots like a dream. Best trigger IMO of any rifle I own. There will be more.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who loves these.

LOL. That's okay, though. Let 'em hash it out. Or let the Moderators close it. Either way, not our problem.
It'll get closed. Anytime I even mention S&W, colt fanboys start foaming at the mouth.

Back to the subject at hand: My GF has decided I'm getting a reloading press for my BDay, sept. 17th. My goal is to keep it somewhat simple, as I'm ONLY reloading 7.5 Swiss. Suggestions on materials, tools, and etc?

The Swiss rifles are about the most accurate you well find, most are mil-surp shoot match winners.

The SP clamp on scope mount works great, no movement with them, amazing considering how quick and easy they attach. There are several aftermarket sight sets, diopter sets, even Mojo offers a set for the K31.

Hey crate, where'd you get the leather comb on that top rifle, the one with Swiss crest? I want that.

Here is my blonde Swiss beauty. Got it off a forum member here. 1945, original stock, no troop tag though. I haven't shot it much yet but just the little that I have has impressed me. Very well built, great sights, and amazing triggers.

(strippers are full of spent casings from the last range trip, btw ;))

My current set of milsurps:
Walnut K31 (of 1941 vintage, IIRC)
Beech K31 (from 1945, IIRC, also)
FN49 Luxembourg in 30-06 (currently the beauty of the lot)
CZ52 in 7.62Tok, rebuilt my me (hand-made ebony grips, polished dark grey bluing, hand-made sights, upgraded internals)

I don't always shoot bolt actions, but when I do, I prefer the K31...

TCB

PS- Has anybody tried to make a drop-in replacement for the rear sight blade that has an aperture instead? That's how the FN49 is set up, and I found it to be very nice.
