CZ 527 Vs Rem 700 SPS in .17Rem

CZ. Because they are sexy looking and very accurate out of the box.

Both are good. Just get whatever feels best to you.

I have a 527 American in .221 Fireball. CZ makes a fine rifle. Fit and finish is great, and mine has a very nice piece of wood. The set trigger is nice, too.

Given the choice... the CZ by a long shot. I bought my first CZ because it felt right in my hand (CZ75b) I knew absolutely nothing about the brand. Since then I've acquired 5 more CZ firearms. All of them have been well made and had great bang for the buck. I once had occasion to use the gunsmiths at CZUSA, the service was excellent.

Before the Cerberus takeover, that would have been an easy choice. Now? Not so much. I'm still a Remington guy, but I'd have to inspect each rifle carefully. With the stories of horrible QC on Remlins lately, I don't think I'd buy a 2009 & later model sight unseen.

I've enjoyed all of the CZ firearms I have owned. The 527 is a neat little rifle, the only drawback as I see it is that the tiny little action can be difficult to operate with a scope on it sometimes.

Only CZ when compared to remigton of today.

clayton86: I have never owned a 700 REM in 17 REM, so I really can`t comment on them. But I own a CZ 17 REM VARMINT, it is one of my favorite rifles and I shoot it quite a bit. I reload for it and have had very good luck with the Hornadays 25gr HP, and there 20gr & 25gr V-MAX bulets. I use H4895 powder and my CZ 17 REM will group less than a 1/2 an inch, at a 100 yds. The single set trigger is just great & I have not experienced any problems putting a scope on my rifle. I have had no problems with this rifle, and i like it more every time I shoot it. I use the rifle for PD`S, Ground Hogs, Jackrabbits, and I have taken several Coyotes with it. CZ`S are just wonderful rifles and my Son and I have several of them. GOOD LUCK TO YOU: ken

Any particular reason you want the .17Rem or do you just want it?

The .204 Ruger seems to be a better all round bullet apart from it might be a bit louder and heat the barrel a tad quicker.
But you will have a lot more gun choices.

But if you just really want the .17, CZ sure makes a beautiful rifle.

Clayton86; No I have not tried any Berger Bullets but I hear they are very good bullets. The only bullets I have tried are REM factory loads, and they will shoot less than an inch at a 100. I have only reloaded with Hornady`s 3 bullets, 25gr hp, and their 20 gr & 25gr V-MAX. All 3 shoot very well but the 20gr &25gr V-MAX`S shoot out of my rifle unbelivabley vell. Less than a 1/2 inch at a 100 yds, more like a 1/4 inch. The 17 REM is very fur friendly very seldom an exit hole, on a coyote or fox, and I have yet to lose one. I shoot pd`s , jackrabbits,crows and other small varmints how ever with a very explosive efect. I have shoot coyotes out past 250yrs,and try to head shoot them, or for body shots center of the chest or behind the front leg. I use a 4200 ELETE 8-32 X 40 AO Scope and I like that scope a lot. They do fine, though I mostly use 25 gr. Moly HP's. They clock 4,140 FPS from my 22" 700 LVSF, and they kill like lightning (without an exit hole).

Brass seems to be a big issue of getting a hold of though for any of the reloadable 17's.

Midway has some, Grafs has plenty, didn't check any others. I've never had trouble finding it. .17 Rem brass ain't cheap, but 500 pieces lasts a long time.

I can only find Nickle plated stuff and iv heard from many people as well as the reviews on it the stuff is junk. I spent most my day watching youtube videos of .17FB kills on various critters no fox though and hardly any 17rem videos I could find either.

The nickel stuff is fine, and it doesn't tarnish or become stained with fingerprints. Most of my loads are nickel.

Or you can spend the big money on the Nosler custom brass.....

Witnessing .17 Fireball kills will show you what to expect from the .17 Rem. The .17 Rem is 300-400 FPS faster, but aside from extending useful range a little bit, the two rounds have identical capabilities.

I have never tried any nickel plated brass so can`t comment. But I have always had good case life with REM brass. I don`t belive I have ever thrown one away except for reloading screw up. I have a 4200 ELITE 8-32X40 AO on my CZ 17 REM, my SON and I really like the 4200 ELITE scopes and have several 6-24-40 & 8-32X40. And we have never had a problem with any of them.
