Ever since I saw the movie Johnny Dangerously, I've wanted an 88 Magnum. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you really need to see this film.

As the IMFDB states, the movie gun was a Colt New Service revolver in 45 Colt. Well, I didn't have a Colt to build on, but a few years back I did come across a Smith & Wesson Model 28-2 with lots of holster wear and a bad barrel. I bought it with the intention of building a custom revolver with the frame.

Fast forward to the near present.

Wild West Guns, maker of the fantastic Alaskan Guide Gun, openned up a full service sales and gunsmithing store in Las Vegas. After having them do some minor gunsmihing for me, I took the plunge and brought my project revolver to them. Working with Tim, one of their gunsmiths, we came up with this:

(Yes, I know that isn't a completely accurate quote!)

This is a range toy.

How does it shoot? Well so far, I've only been able to test shoot it mid way though the build. At that time, it could hold a 2" group at 50 yards from a bench rest with 357 Magnum Blazer 158gr JHP. Recoil is insignificant. Range attention is high. Fun factor is high. It is surprisingly easy to hold it one handed while firing and 2 handed is a dream. The ammo in the picture is Buffalo Bore 180gr, which I hope to test soon.

This revolver has prompted me to return to reloading.

Looks like you'll still need another foot or two of barrel length to down a Batwing:what:

My wife says my 1858 Remington 'Buffalo' reminds her of that exact image.

With cartridge cylinder-

gazpacho, that's a sweet revolver! How much did it cost for the custom work, if you don't mind me asking?

I'd have to go back and total up the receipts, but I estimate about $1100 in custom work. It's a lot, but how often do you get to do something like this?

Of coursenow, I have visions of a revolver based carbine in my head. I'm thinking of Ruger's Super Redhawk in 454

Silverblack Checkered

To be honest, at first I was ho-hum about the grips, but when I finally got the revolver back with the black nitride finish, the two just clicked.

On a side note, what you can see is that under the grips there is a lanyard loop at the bottom of the frame.

I like!

As my eyes get older, I like longer-barreled handguns more and more; it gets the front sight out there whee I can see it better.

Can you do a quick run through of what you had done to it? Obviously the barrel, a refinish, and grips...what else do we have here?

Barrel with the slab sides and engraving
Slight trigger work (trigger was great to begin with)
Timing and cylinder gap (the gap now is the tightest I have ever seen without binding)
Jack Weigland front sight
Grips
Lanyard ring
Black nitride finish

The rear sight blade will be replaced when the part comes in.

Whatever floats your boat, impressive work. I'm really chiming in to share how much the school comments grate on me. Fingernails on a chalkboard grating. Are we really so tone deaf that we would think this in any way funny? Is there some inside joke I'm not privvy to? Even if there is you get a vote from me for boneheaded post of the month.:(

The school thing comments were from Danny Vermin's line in the movie, played by Joe Piscapo, but yes, they were in very poor taste. Very poor. Nothing funny about it, not in the movie, nor here.

Walkalong-- Thanks for clearing up the school thing. Makes me feel a little better that it wasn't totally random.

I don't think anyone's intention was to be offensive. The movie was made before school shootings were national news. Since the thread title was directly related to the movie I can see why the post were made. It was a slap stick comedy where the gun was alleged to shoot through schools, armor, trees, ect but failed to go through a cigarette case

It was made for him special. It "shoots through schools," as Vermin puts. It can shoot through armor, the victim, and a tree outside, presumably with a single shot, although it failed to penetrate Johnny's cigarette case at the end of the film
