Dear THR:
I have always assumed that more men are inclined to collecting, buying and using handguns than women. Is it true?

Small poll to see representation on this site.

Thank you.

I can guarantee you that there are "more" men. Just how many more would be the question.

I actually see a decent number of females at the local range just target shooting. Still way more guys, but I'd say about 10-15% of the shooters are female. At competitions I see a little bit of a smaller female to male ration, but not too severe. Maybe 5-10% there.

I also think this forum has a very high male-to-female ratio, so the results may be skewed. For example, in my family we have 3 handgun owners, 1 female. I am the only poster here. So instead of 67% male, my representation of my family would read as 100% male.

"Most" women also don't spend their time talking gun talk just yelling at us for spending too much time here in the forums when I should be fixing the dryer!
(I do not mean to offend any women in the forum talking gun talk... always glad to hear from the better half, but face it according to this poll you will be a minority.) Women have better things to do than talk about guns all day, we guys like to find any way to goof off or talk smack to one another.

I don't know, it's pretty common when I go over to my parents' house that we all talk about guns. Then again half the conversation is while its just me and my Dad.

Luckily I'm a bachelor, so I don't have anyone assigning me chores that would take away from my forum usage.

I too am a bachelor, does not mean I have not been scolded a few times before. Most of the women I know are gun oriented but seldom like to talk about them the way we do. Usually they change the subject to get us off topic so after about 5 minutes of that I change the subject to cars….. “Then I get the look!”

LOL just like I expected. THR is a buncha bro-hamsters.

We're like Dr. Pepper Ten, right? :p

The female shooters I know aren't posting or reading here. They are out there, but they don't typically spend a lot of time talking about their guns.

The numbers are shifting here in the US, but men still outnumber the ladies at the range by probably 50:1.

I shoot competitively in a couple of different disciplines and regularly shoot with probably 200-400 shooters in a given year. Only about know 20 or so of those regular competitors are women, but there are a few more each year.

Oh, there are a few of us female shooters that enjoy hanging out and talking guns:rolleyes:
Some women do not want to identify as such on forums, for whatever reason.
I've had a few PM me over the years, 'introducing' themselves, but they don't mention it in the open forum.

I'm female, I'm proud, I'm armed, get used to it:neener:

There are a lot more female shooters on the forums that you think. Many use a name what is gender neutral so they aren't "bothered" by those who are not as nice as they should be to people. There are still many who talk down to women just because they think they know everything and women know nothing about guns. Both are untrue.

Although my wife is not on this forum there are many women on here and you would never know they are women because they want it that way... (and I can't say as I blame them)

ArchAngel, I do not think women know nothing. I may be guilty of the other part of your statement.

I would sincerly love to have a lady friend I could talk guns with. My girlfriend just goes into that yep, mmhmm, okay, oh really? mode, sort of like I do when shes talking about whatever stupid small drama is going on where she works :)... If a lady approached me, and said "jimbo, can I come to your house and use your press? I need to get the barrel pin out of my PSL" I WOULD FAINT.

It may depend on location. There are many women hunters here in Colorado. The lady who does my massage therapy, my dental hygienist and others all hunt deer and elk and can carry on a conversation that shows they know the guns they use.

Although the ratio is certainly skewed toward men I am sure the numbers on this poll would be even more skewed. I know several women who own firearms and shoot regularly, they are not they type to go onto a forum such as this one.

In my Household... I'm the lone male, but the sole forum user so I'll vote for me.

Add 3 females age 10-55 either shoot actively or at least used to... 2 more just too young, Skew your poll mentally if you wish.

We have 2 really good female shooters at our club. Most of the other ladies I see, are usually with their husbands or boyfriends getting their feet wet as it were.
