Anyone in need of powder needs to check out powder valley ASAP. They just got a lot of Alliant powders back in stock as well as a few others. I just purchased a ton of MP300, Blue Dot, Herco and Bullseye.

LOL I don't know if I was being completely honest there. To me, 8 pounds of each is a ton:)

That sucks. They had it literally 2 minutes before I posted this.

Dadgum Schwing, you should just posted: i got some powder, nanny nanny boo boo:neener:

just kidding

Im still starving for IMR4895 and IMR4064 at my local shops, but everyone and their great uncle use it. I can find most everything else I need. And even powders i dont use, but do a quick search to see if there is data.

*look at powder, look at smart phone, i say to my self ohhhhhhhhh i can use it!!!!!!, grab 2 lbs of it, continue down the line, go to the register, smiling*

gunshop owner looks at me and says boy you look happy, i say well you dont have the powder I use buuuuttttttt you have other stuff i can use. gunshop owner says, that is great!!!

No offense meant but it's threads like this that are making the shortages and price increases worse. For example, "Anyone in need of powder needs to check out powder valley ASAP." Then everyone goes to the sight and orders too much power for too high a price.

Please everyone, calm down and things will improve.

I don't think that's 100% accurate. I don't think most people are ordering "too much" and paying "too much." The more you order the cheaper per pound it is due to spreading the hazmat fee over pounds of it. If you're only going to order 2-3lbs the hazmat fee isn't worth it. Order 30lbs or so and the hazmat fee is only about $1/lb.

I see these threads as just a heads up to other reloaders, just like the thread bds started.

I am not offended and I understand why you feel that way. Driving the rampage is not my intent at all. I have a different perspective. I just started reloading this last year. Unlike a lot of folks out here, I have really struggled to build up any kind of reserves, especially powder. When I first started searching through this and other forums, I was able to pick up stuff based on posts like mine from websites that I, as a newbee, had never even heard of. I am just trying to pay it forward.

On a more positive note, I will be reloading with something other than Unique or blue dot for the first time:)

One more month and the house is paid off. Following month, I hope powder valley has stuff in stock, I'm buying for the next year or so of shooting.

Congratulations on your milestone! There is no feeling quite like a mortgage payoff- it is as though someone came along with bolt cutters and removed the ball and chain from your legs. [/threadjack]

Hate to continue hijacking the thread but this is awesome news that should be celebrated! :D

Woohoo! Congratulations! A feat very few people can manage these days.

OK, back to OP.

I have been following reloading components inventory on the Reloading Components/Equipment for Sale thread and more and more components/equipment are definitely hitting the shelves.

Looks like things are looking up and I think Powder Valley will continue to receive more inventory.

It seems whenever there is a shortage of factory ammunition, more people get into reloading as a hobby, for the necessity of being able to shoot or with the intent to save money (but this rarely happens as you end up reloading more and shooting more).

IMO, the current shortage has been historic and probably pushed a record number of shooters to reloading (I have seen people I would never guess to get into reloading with the current shortage). Things are improving and more and more factory ammunition are hitting the stores but all the old reloaders and new shooters who started buying reloading equipment and components are probably running low or without the most popular powders of choice for their calibers.

I haven't seen W231/HP-38/Unique/H335/H4895/Varget in stock online for quite a while and go out of stock very quickly when they do. The LGS have had them in stock but they don't last long on their shelves.

I think it's still supply and demand at work. The supply has not increased significantly and the demand is great.

I think to a small degree this has some truth in it. Along with the sharp increase in interest in the shooting sports driving the shortage in ammo and reloading supplies, so is the panic buying. While it is true buying powder in volume is cheaper and covers the hazmat when buying over the internet, most folks are buying in larger quanities than they did in the past. Schwing is a good example. He has been reloading less than a year and just bought 32 lbs of powder. 3 years ago very few new re-loaders bought enough bulk powder in advance to load approximately 23,000 handgun rounds. Now because of the internet, every new re-loader thinks they need a 40lb powder reserve. Because of the ammo shortage there are a ton of new reloaders......thanks to the internet. That's why there's also a shortage of reloading presses to be found. When I started reloading, I never bought anything other than a 1 lb jug of any untested powder for fear me or my guns wouldn't like it, much less 8 pounders. For years I generally only kept on hand what I needed for the next few months cause I could always go down to my LGS and buy more. I never used to get paranoid when I opened my last box of 1000 primers. Now I think I have to have enough stock on hand to last me the rest of my life. Yep.....I too am part of the problem too.

That used to be the case but thanks to the internet, narrowing powder selection is done much faster now. When I started loading .308, I spent several months on the internet forums/resources and was able to narrow my choices to IMR4895/H4895/Varget/RL15. With .300 BLK, it was even faster with H110.

I used to keep 6 months to 1 year supply but after the last shortage, I increased my stock to 3-5 years and used tax refund money to buy components when they went on sale at good prices.

It's the new normal for many.

Absolutely the demand is far greater than even 4+ years ago, Now everyone wants to start reloading. They do not want to learn and do the work, just how much of this do I put in and will it go bang or boom.

Firearms have returned but no ammo.

I do not see how folks who do not reload can afford to shoot. Even if they find ammo, say 2 boxes of Win white box 45 ACP. At around $25 per box that makes for an expensive short day at the range for over $50!.

So folks shifted to 22 LR, now that is like finding gold.:(
