Anywhere, Anyway, Any Gun

While I will only CCW a handgun, there should be no impediment to my carry options.

Prohibition simply does not work, laws that forbid the carry of one form of weapon or another, and dictate the manner in which it may be carried only affect law abiding people. In my home state of TN, I may carry a handgun either openly, or concealed, and a long gun in my vehicle as long as there is no round chambered, it may have a magazine in place. I am not a criminal, so I will never commit a crime, or cause unlawful harm with a firearm, so it matters not one bit what I carry, or how I carry it. Criminals, by definition will disregard any law which stands between them, and their intent, words on paper will not control them. It is a matter of accountability, when people misuse firearms criminally, they should be punished severely, I believe this is the only workable solution to reducing gun violence.
I voted for any type of carry of any type of firearm. I would still carry the same as I'm carrying now, handguns, concealed.

In theory, I should be able to carry any weapon, in any place, in any manner I choose.

In practice, the wise gun owner will exercise a certain amount of discretion in his choice of weapon, place, and manner.

I'm pretty much lock-step with Sergei on this one.

I will add that certain circumstances, Katrina for instance, justify the carrying of long guns in a very rapidly deployable manner regardless (or maybe because of) people's reactions.

I think Sergai nailed it. I believe I have the right of carrying anything I want, when and where I want, and relying on my own discretion and common sense as to how I go about this every day.

I believe that I should be able to OC a pistol in rural counties, but CC in urban counties

That's what I voted. I voted that because getting the anti's all fired up IMO, does more harm than good to our cause. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

correct, here in oklahoma I CAN openly carry a pistol up to and including .45 caliber (i carry a 45 long colt) but 90%+ of the time i choose to conceal it. Why? because i don't like feeling like a tool, that's why. It's a bit odd to see someone cowboyin' in to walmart, even around here. I've still never seen anyone but myself openly carry a firearm.

The way those are worded are bad. Do I think you should be allowed to carry a rifle? Yes I do. in any way I choose, no I don't. If it is in your hands your inviting me to start wondering if I am in an active shooter situation and take actions consistent with that. The same with I believe that I should be able to carry a pistol in any manner I choose. Holster that hogleg. I don't care if you open carry but it better be in a holster.

That is a good point, but I just took his meaning as "with the choice between open or concealed." Nice job catching that though. Clarification, sir!

I appreciate the comments and opinions

I saw a youtube video where two younger guys were carrying AR15s, walking around unslinging and reslinging them in an urban inviornment.

They were trying to get a rise from the police and the businesses

That they did

IMHO, these displays serve no useful purpose, other than pissing off a bunch of VOTING people who would otherwise be indifferent to CC, and even OC.

IMHO....... My 2 cents, maybe not worth that....... The in-your-face approach in the long run will lessen future gun freedoms for everyone

I think there is a time and place for everything

The key word in your survey is "able."

I think open carry is stupid and dangerous for a citizen, but I don't think there should be a law against it. When I carry, it is concealed.

Any where, any way, any time.

Personally I carry concealled most of the time but occassionally I carry open. Legal either way in my state. In fact no need for a permit to go either way here.

I think it's about purpose. A handgun is a personal defense tool and should be allowed any way, any manner I choose. A rifle is different where I have no need to take out a deer on my way to the grocery store so I don't mind the current laws of cased and unloaded. I have never wished that I needed to sling my long arms, but I didn't live in Katrina's zone.
In short, I voted for pistols in any manner I wish.

I think that someone who has passed a background check and is licensed should be able to carry anything, anyway possible, everywhere. The key being the background check and licensed.

How ever I may choose or not depends on the circumstances. I can't carry at all on V.A. Property and I am at the V.A. a lot these days. Due to the Law I choose not to carry there.
Other places it depends on who I am with and what I am doing. Most often I Conceal but that is more the places I'm going not who I'm with.
I think the question is more complicated than the answers I have options for in your poll.

I voted carry any weapon any way I choose. Not much to comment here. I think any gun free zone is a joke, including any building that isn't staffed by fulltime armed security; and rent-a-cop doesn't count. Note that this includes most Federal buildings.

If a gun is holstered or on a sling, I ought to be able to take it anywhere.

For me, I said carry a pistol any way you see fit, though I don't personally think OC is a great idea in a lot of scenarios. I CC because I don't want anyone to know I'm armed, so I don't become a target for a criminal looking to aquire a gun.

I open carry a fair amount out in the woods or on the trails because it is more comfortable and I can carry a full sized gun then.

I would definately carry a lever action, or any other rifle or shotgun in the outdoors if I thought wildlife warranted it.

Rifle or shotgun carry in a city, or even town seems a little like overkill to me, and I can see why law enforcement would not want this going on. The added velocities of projectiles involved also increase the chances of colateral damage. This is JMO though, and I don't feel so strongly about it that I am willing to argue for that restriction, or even argue with someone in this thread about it.

If I see someone armed and walking down the street in a normal fashion with a holstered or slung weapon, I assume they are a law abiding citizen and mean me no harm. Weapon in hand or shouldered, something is going down, and my first duty is to flee.
