Question for Alabama Guys

I'm not familiar with UAB but this is a student document, which I believe would pertain to anyone on campus/property.

Restaurant, a little bit of a grey area but if the restaurant has a bar, or over 60% of sales are alcohol it's a no go. How to know the percentage of sales is beyond me. I just use my best judgment. Buffalo Wild Wings for example is one place I won't go. An Alabamian inquired about their carry policy and the manager stated they would have to remove anyone in question. Then wanted to know if he was currently carrying... This is definitely a place I would consider over the 60%.

This is me. I'd leave in the trunk or under the seat at school.
Carry concealed everywhere else. If it has "no guns allowed" sign on the door of the eat place I carry concealed. That sign is really to keep the open carry outside. I have a couple friends tht would have better answers but I can't reach then until tomorrow. I carry concealed pretty much everywhere. That's just me. Best wishes and watch the construction zones on I65 . You will get a ticket.

In practice, you'll have no problem. If it were me, I'd leave it under the seat during graduation, and carry concealed everywhere else provided SC has reciprocity with us (probably does).

Alabama is a very gun friendly state, although BHM maybe a little less so than the more rural areas. Please note that I have nothing to substantiate that with, just a hunch.

If you're driving in and get pulled over, there is no duty to inform. Whether you choose to do so or not is up for the ol' THR debate, but if you do I would think there is little chance you are disarmed / thrown across your hood. Especially if it is a State Trooper conducting the stop.

Alabama now has reciprocity with most states. An attempt was made to make vehicle carry permit less but did not succeed. Not sure about UAB parking lot but employees may now leave firearms locked in their vehicles per state law. I would treat UAB as private entity and as suggested leave in your car locked. I've never read anything stipulating state restaurant restrictions - that may vary from county to county.

I don't know about UAB, but UNA here in Florence has many prominent No Firearms signs. I do not know if they have the weight of law, but it is obvious the faculty does not want you armed on campus.
I would lock my pistol in the boot and hope for the best.

And while you are in town, consider The Ridge and/or Mudtown.

I've been stopped a couple of times, once by state troopers for an insurance card check and another by local police. Both times I informed the officers I had a gun in the car in order for it NOT to be discovered by accident and causing un-needed problems. Both times the officer temporarily took possession of it until he concluded his business. In neither event was it irritating, stressful, problematic or anything other than polite and business-like -- and I was certainly not spread-eagled across a car. In fact I didn't even leave my car. The state trooper even thanked me for informing him I had the revolver.
But neither officer was in any way snarky or unpleasant.
Should I have kept quiet?
I guess it's a matter of personal judgement. I just felt better about informing the officer in advance because I don't think that police really need surprises involving guns from us good guys; they get enough of that from the bad guys.

Might be a little late for my response but will throw it up anyway.

Carrying at UAB and associated facilities is not an issue with an instate permit. As the carry law cited by Alabama law exempts LEO and concealed carry holders of the state. Parking lots of UAB are not posted as gun free zones.

There are no percentages about carry in restaurants or bars, or worrying about how much revenue a business makes from alcohol. Most AL state permits (vary as they are issued by county) will say something to the effect of "Your pistol permit does not allow you to carry a pistol while you are drinking or using any illegal drug." So be sure to keep that in mind in your travels, if you manage to read this before you get back.

No proof of training or vision test required in Georgia.

There is nothing illegal about carrying with a permit in a university.

They will kick you out if they find out though. If they are a student, you will probably be expelled.

University employees with a permit can leave a pistol in their car now due to state law- I don't know about visitors (not that they can do anything to you if you do).

It has to do with GA requiring less training than what is required in SC. If I remember correctly from a couple of years ago SC's reciprocity statement essentially says that SC will reciprocate with any state that has equal to or greater training requirements. I'm planning to make a similar drive to Birmingham this fall, but I have a Utah non-resident permit too, so I'm covered in GA (at least for now).
