How do I choose a suppressor?

Pick one that is in stock, that has the most uses, and has a good db reduction. It will save you a few months if its in stock. Also I was in the same boat as you. I ended up getting the Specwar 762 because it can cover every 30cal and below and gets great reviews. I looked at the Harvester as well, but it is mainly meant for hunting or very slow target fire, that did not suit my needs. I wanted something I could shoot 300 win mag, 6.5 creedmore, 300 blk, 5.56 with a full mag dump. The specwar fills all those and had QD flash hiders and compensators. If I am going to spend close to $1000 for suppressor, tax stamp, and muzzle devices, and wait a year for it, I want something I can use alot and on many different rifles.

Step 1 is to figure out what your needs are and translate said needs into requirements. I picked a Saker 762 because I wanted capability to shoot up to 300 mag in a short(ish) package with QD and direct thread capability. If I were in your place and wanted something primarily for hunting, I would be most concerned about the can's impact on accuracy and its weight. Suppression would also obviously be a consideration, but given all the really good cans out there, it would be third on the list. In your situation, I would look closely at the Thunderbeast 30p-1 or 30ps and the Silencerco Harvester. Given that Silencershop has the Harvester in stock for $525, I'd probably just pick one up and call it a day. Also, speaking of Silencershop, don't be afraid to order from a reputable online dealer that has the can you want in stock, the Form 3 on my saker took less than a month to go through.

Buy once, cry once really does apply to NFA items. Don't buy it just because it's inexpensive. Buy the best rifle suppressor you can because the guns you might want to use it on could expand. I think the Saker or Specwar are good options as well (in addition to the Harvester)

To give a personal example I don't own a single .45 pistol but I have an Octane 45. Because...one day I might get a .45.

For your needs the Harvester would be a good option plus it is really light 11.3oz and 8.8" long. The Thunderbeast is another option to look at, they have some of the best reviews. There are 6 options from them 30P-1(9" long, 17.2oz) most sound suppression, 30PS(7"long, 13.2oz), and 30PSS(5" long, 9.7oz) all are the same except the length and are direct thread. Then they have the compact break thread models which thread on to one of their muzzle breaks. 30CB9 (9" long, 16.3oz), 30CB7(7" long, 13.4oz), and 30CB5(5" long, 9.6oz)

All of those are rated up to 300 win mag. Now the Harvester is pretty new as well as the Thunderbeast CB models so there is not as many reviews and intel of how well it holds up. The Thunderbeast 30P-1 has been around for a while and tends to be a popular one for long range shooters. Thunderbeast models around around $900-1200 depending on which one you want.

Agree 100%, I just think the Harvester looks like a great option for a hunting rifle, and it also happens to be a good value. I'd be hard pressed to choose between the 30P-1 (from our local suppressor company) and the Harvester for a dedicated hunting can.

When all other things are equal, I recommend going with the company that has the best customer service in case you run into problems. From my experience, SilencerCo has the best customer service of all the major silencer companies.

Also, silencers are often lifetime items, and it's hard to take advantage of a company's great customer service if the company is no longer around when you need help from them. SilencerCo will almost certainly be around for a long time, and they even made the Forbes 500 list of fastest-growing companies a year or so ago.

I own a Silencerco and love it. Also own a YHM and love it...also own a AAC and love ti as well. The AAC is the only one I have had to send back. One of the baffles cracked and in trying to get it out I severly destroyed the finish... This was all fauly of my own. nonetheless they sent me a return label, had the supporessor for two weeks and returned it fixed and refinished.

There customer service has always been excellent whether I am asking questions or buying parts or whatever.

AAC, SILENCERCO, YHM I own all of them and have NO complaints on either. The YHM is a 5.56 and was nearly the cheapest of the three yet is the funnest.

I have even shot the Huntertown Arms...they are very well build considering they are by far the cheapest available!!!

I have a YHM stinger and love it as well. I even sent them a barrel to thread and they did it in 5 days and only charged $60 + shipping, so total was around $90 for the work plus shipping both ways. I have called and asked them and SilencerCo questions and both have been great to deal with. It seems most of the suppressor companies have excellent customer service, probably because they all enjoy their jobs.

I have to put in a plug for Huntertown Arms, they have been outstanding to deal with. Mine's only a .22 can but they treated me like a valued customer when I upgraded it, twice.

Can't tell you much about YHM since I've never had to contact them post-buy for my 30 caliber can, really like the can though.

Are there any ranges out there that will allow you to rent them?

I would be surprised if a range allowed rental...

I have the AAC SDN-6 (but use it on 308/300 BLK/5.56). I may also thread one of my 308 bolt guns for a mount.

Multi-use cans are good in that respect. A thread on can would be a better option for a precision rifle (and adjust POA/POI with the can mounted and NOT removed).

I have demoed the can for others at the local ranges (when they were interested in getting a can).... generally LEOs that I've met there..

Agree with buy once... selling a suppressor is really a non-starter due to NFA process... get what you want.

The SDN-6 is a good compromise for my uses... happy camper.
