Just a followup- I realize the eye relief will not be unlimited, just wondering if it will be the same with both eyes open.

I noticed today Nikon has a 1x20 Buckmasters scope available. Since there's no magnification would that allow you to aquire a target with both eyes open as with a tube sight?

How many rounds have you fired since the last recoil spring change? If this spring goes soft, it may close too fast or hard, causing issues. I'd start with that...

If someone comes at you with a knife, and you shoot them with a 22LR pistol, you'll be dead from knife wounds before they die from bullet wounds... unless your shot placement is insanely good at 5' in an emergency draw.

I'd have to agree, for the money, there's not a better deal out there than the Springfield 1911 Milspec. Staying between 700 - 1000, I'd go with a Kimber.

I'm not a big fan of the 45GAP, or any proprietary caliber for that matter. The 30SF is a great gun, will cycle just about any ammo you can find, and will certainly be cheaper to feed.
