Inlaying small nut into aluminum block??

Actually what I would do instead of a nut is use a piece of steel rod or tube. Tap it to the appropriate thread size. Then drill a hole in the aluminum block and press-fit the new "nut" and adhere with anerobic adhesive. That way you only have to drill a round hole to fit the nut.

1911A1 What surface to file? Frame to Slide fit Question

LOL. Actually I prefer "Mk I sensor." Agreed on the questionable quality of Auto Ordnance slides. Very soft steel; on all other 1911s, the slide is harder than the frame. PS: I have a new, uncut STI slide. Yours cheap if you want it. Drop me email or PM.

Just bought a "Lady" Kahr K9...

Contrary to popular belief, there are more differences in the "Lady" K than just a lighter recoil spring. The striker spring is also lighter and the striker bore is honed. Sear is also different, but I'm not exactly sure what makes it different.

Bears. What ammo to use on them.

I think those rounds would be more dangerous to the operator than an angry bear would.

How hot is too hot? Barrel warmup

I think the real issue at hand is getting the bore hot enough to anneal the steel. Well, it doesn't take much with magnum loads. Probably two shots per minute before the process starts. Shouldn't affect accuracy, but the barrel's life expectancy will be shorter.

    Making shims for scope mount

Why not use automotive feeler gauges? You can get them in precise thicknesses, they're cheap, and you can cut them with scissors.

    Yugo SKS 'won't cycle' fix

Ah, good job on the DIY. I had this same problem but purchased a small copper washer to seal it. IIRC, I bought it from smallparts.com; only ordered one because they weren't as cheap as I was hoping. You might be able to find a suitable washer either from an auto parts store or from a...

    Safety Is For Everybody!

That should probably read "14 REPORTED unintentional discharges..." You can probably Google for five minutes and find more than 14 newspaper articles of negligent discharges. One night a couple years ago I heard a park ranger scream "SHOTS FIRED!!" on my scanner radio. The police came, full...

    Roll Pins...Arrrrrhhhh!!!!

I find that the roll pin punch will get you into a lot of trouble when installing pins. They tend to work into the pin and spread it open. I usually get them started with a flat brass punch and when it's 90% in, drive it home with the roll pin punch. LIGHTLY. If you go too hard then the...

    Hornady TAP ammo.

I use the .45ACP +P load (red box). It doesn't seem as hot as Remington Golden Sabre .45ACP +P in terms of muzzle flash. The Remingtons throw a HUGE fireball. The Hornady's bullets are total metal jacket. I have confirmed this by digging some out of the mound I was shooting at.

Who is ready for the Springfield XD .45 ACP??

Hah, cool ad. I blew my gun money on guns and a diamond ring for the wife as a Christmas gift. So that means no scope for the new TRG-22 for the next few months. As to the XD, I'd have to wait for it to hit the California DOJ list before buying one. For 2006 all the newly added handguns...

    Jeweled Finish

Getting those little circles evenly spaced can be a tough job!! The only way I've managed to get a job that looks perfect is to use a cross slide vise as dfariswheel has suggested. (Actually I use a mill, but the end result is about the same.) Securely mount a dial indicator and use it to...
