I just got this today. I won it on Oct 8th but the auctioneer came out and we did the transfer right at my house and we talked for a couple hours about all kinds of stuff. Made for probably my favorite gun transactions ever. Got to look at an album pictures of fishing adventures and amazing hunting. What a neat guy.
Anyway, this is my 4th S&W revolver now.
It appears unfired. A Model 13-2 S&W 4 inch M&P .357 with original box and papers and tools.
I am not in a big hurry to shoot it. I doubt I will. I know some guys think that's a sin but I think I'll just hang onto this one as is.

Taaaaah have.

I too would have a hard time shooting that but I would have an even harder time not shooting it! Very nice looking revolver either way.

I'd shoot it. Beautiful gun. I had one just like it without the box or docs but looked perfect. I just wouldn't holster it to maintain that bluing.

I wish S&W would reissue that gun exactly like that. No Hogue grips, no gun lock, no two-tone parts.

Exactly.

Years ago it was the gun I recommended to all my non-gun friends who wanted a gun for their nightstands. It was perfect. Now everyone who doesn't know what gun to get for their nightstands wants a Glock!

And they don't want a recommendation.

Sigh!

Howdy

I picked up one just like it a few years ago. The box and the papers came along with it, but not the little bag of tools nor the krinkly rust resistant paper. Love those blue boxes.

Very nice. I have the 13-2, 3” round butt that’s one of my favorites. Wish mine was in as nice a condition as yours.

Just curious. Why the delay from 10/8 to 10/31 for you to take possession?

Thanks guys for the approvals and compliments!

My auctioneer went to Wyoming hunting after the auction. He told me he did well on the trip, but after looking at his photo album and all those trophy game pictures, I don't even remember what he bagged on the last trip.
I didn't find out I won until I got my consignment check for stuff I put in came ( very quickly I might add ). Then I found out that out of 10 bids I left at the auction, but did not attend, I only won this one. My wife was relieved LOL.
So rather than me having to go pick it up, he said he would bring it out to my house.
I told my wife to give him all my guns to sell when I kick the bucket. First class guy.

You can find those sold by themselves on GB sometimes but the paperwork are the hardest to find I think.
Here's one anyway for now. Not so hot. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/595488899

I looked for one for years and never found one locally.

I finally punted and bought a 3" 65 when CDNN was practically giving them away. I hate matte stainless, but the gun's so perfect as a self-defense revolver that I can overlook that.

The previous owner monkeyed with the strain screw, cutting it off short so that it looked like a normal screw when turned all the way in. This caused misfires. It took a while to figure it out, but when it was replaced with a stock part, it was 100% reliable.

Howdy Again

Thanks, but if the box and goodies did not come with the gun, I am not going to go hunting for them. Maybe if I found a first year of issue SAA - nah, not even then. I have said many times that I don't believe the box and papers actually adds anything to the value of a used gun. Case in point, with that model 13 of mine the deal was sealed before the dealer mentioned that it came with the box. Nothing had been mentioned about the box. I have had that happen many times. The box just comes with the gun, and it does not add to the asking price.

Of course, it is always nice if you do get the box and goodies along with it.

Jeeze, I can't believe some guy is selling a torn S&W rust proof paper online. I guess there is a sucker born every minute.

That's a real beauty there! I can see your thought as to leaving it just the way it is; certainly is a fine example of the adage "they don't make them like that anymore"!

IMG_1640.JPG Very nice 13-2 . I also have a unfired 13-2 but mine didn't come with box. I could tell it was only shot 3 times because carbon rings on every other chamber of cylinder from factory test firing.

Very nice revolver. They are still out there I see. Not being rude, just curious. What was the price range for a nice old Smith like that one?

Some day I will find my perfect carry gun for a price I'm willing to pay. I want a 3" M13 for carry, I just think it's perfect.

I don't mind saying I paid $500. high bid $30.00 tax to the worthless PA Governor and $15.00 to transfer.
So it cost me $545.00 total "in the door". :)
When you have fun buying something, I think you tend to even like it more.
I wasn't all that worried, I went low on all my bids, I was surprised to get this. They had about 6 different S&W revolvers up for bid in a row. First was a model 10 in just as good shape, Then a couple more of which I forget but I am pretty sure there was a pre 27 and a 29 in there. Only mine and the 10 were like new but the others were very worthy.
I guess the bidders held out hoping to spend money on the others and run mine that high and bowed out.
I saw one on GB that sold for $615 plus $35.00 shipping without a box that was lightly used so I guess I did OK.

I like to have a box if I can get one, it adds to resale value I think.
Yeah, I am pretty sure I'll never shoot this one. I have others to shoot, but if I didn't I would probably give it a whirl.
If you must .... At 9:00 you can see this guy shoot an unfired 13-2 and make it used. LOL
The video is looooooooooooooong so just go to 9:00 if interested.

I think I'm the only person who does't care for the Model 13...or any other S&W with the heavy barrel. They just don't feel right to me...I know, I'm the quirky one.

But THAT is a fine looking revolver. I might be tempted to try another one if I was to see one like it at my LGS. Price you paid is about what I'd expect to see one tagged at...your price might even be a bit lower.

I understand about not knowing if you'll shoot it or not. I just bought a Colt SAA, in 357 that I'm 98% sure has never been fired outside the factory. I'm having the same debate with myself over it. I know I can shoot it anytime, but I can never unshoot it.

I have about 10 pristine vintage colts and SW which I never fired. Made some money on the Colts, not much on the SW. Using the money to get new guns I will actually shoot the hell out of!

Nice looking model 13. Before the sheriff issued 4" model 66s i carried a personally owned 4" model 13. It's a great duty weapon.

Bought my 13-1 new in 1975 - son owns it now (with box & papers):
