I found a more elaborate version of the "Patton" story -

We're just second-guessing at something which happened 102 years ago, but I strongly suspect it was a "Condition 1" mishap......

Too funny, "somehow the pistol discharged" .

If you believe that,I got a bridge in NYC that I want to sell you !.

NO GUN EVER WENT OFF BY ITSELF, unless you believe all the storys that got people killed and the shooter in jail for that explanation.

And he "kept his gun in his trouser fly" -------------- *** does not cover that one.

IF that is the only "story" you have to prove that historically MC is unsafe,I rest my case on my doing so for a 'few' decades with no such silly incidents.

I might be mistaken, but the fact that the " 1911 " is called that due to its inception from that date,I would expect a few HUNDRED more "storys" than that one.

.....and where did I post that Mexican Carry is inherently unsafe? GEEZ.......

I remember Mexican-carrying a Browning 9mm in the back seat of a Huey nearly a half-century ago, in a distant land..... it gets uncomfortable after a while, and it's not hard to imagine that young George was reaching down to adjust his pistol's position when he finally grabbed the wrong part.
One thing that the historians seem to agree on, is that young George concluded the pistol's design features played a part in the accident (there is also speculation that he had previously monkeyed with the 1911's trigger) and he subsequently chose to carry a revolver instead.

BUT the 1911 is one of THE safest pistols to carry in the CORRECT MODE "condition 1 ".

And if you can get it to fire under those cicumstances ---- your trying too hard.

And while wearing ANY firearm, pulling the trigger is NOT EVER an option.

Yep, that's what they say. They tried to make the 1911 idiot-proof, but I guess they didn't quite make it Patton-proof.

Reverting to the revolver seems to have been a good move for young George - I don't think he had any more firearms accidents after that, and the ivory-handled wheelgun added a touch of spice to his public image.

BUTT if'n ya try real hard ----- you can still put a round in your butt with a wheel gun.

Seen it done at the range, tried to not laugh [ he was ok ] but the smirk was still on my face.
