Hello,
As a current or former holder of a New Zealand firearms licence you should be aware of new legislation amending our firearms laws which came into effect on Friday 12 April, 2019.
Police are working through what impact these changes may have on you. The most significant change is prohibiting most semi-automatic firearms, parts, and large-capacity magazines.

Amnesty period
There is now an amnesty in place for at least six months. The purpose of the amnesty is to provide you with reasonable time to notify Police that you possess prohibited items.
This period of time is also to enable some people to apply for an exemption to possess prohibited items (e.g. Dealers, Collectors and people involved in wild animal and animal pest control). The online notification form enables people to show an intent to apply for an exemption.
Please note, the amnesty period is not to allow for the continued use of these prohibited firearms.
During the amnesty period you should:
Continue to maintain the safe and secure storage of your firearms – DO NOT bring them into a police station (unless you have specifically made prior arrangements with Police to do so).
Visit the page Changes to Firearms Law - Prohibited Firearms (www.police.govt.nz/advice/firearms-and-safety/changes-firearms-law-prohibited-firearms) on the police website. Once there, scroll down to locate and complete the online notification form.
Be aware that the collection of firearms will occur at a later stage and you will be advised in due course of the process for this.
Keep an eye on the Police website where information will be kept updated.
Noting the above, a number of licence and/or endorsement holders may now find they are in possession of prohibited firearms, parts, or large-capacity magazines. The table below outlines what you need to note or do now:

Complete the Police Online Notification Form outlining your intent to hand in your semi-automatic firearm/s and be part of the yet to be announced buy-back scheme.

This looks like it may have been copied from a table. Any chance you can get a screenshot, or re-post this with the table intact?

Not really a valid thread for Activism, especially since the OP hasn't posted a comment or a starting point for a discussion.
Moving to General Gun Discussion.

I wondered why the price of PVC fittings and glue went up...

"Now, where is my shovel? Just in case they don't figure this thing out, and I need them... For hunting...Stuff..."

My heart hurts for our Betrodden New Zealander Sisters and Brothers.:(
It is strange that the oppression of millions is so simple and nonchalant.

I wonder what their health care bill reads like...

Sorry if my lack of comment broke the rules. I pretty much thought there would be plenty of comments from others. If gun owners here don't stay on top of the fight, we will be there soon.

The NZ forum monitors are being very careful about who they allow to join. It took me weeks of emails to be allowed to join. Almost everyone posting there is being very careful of what they write. Apparently many of them believe their forum is being monitored by their law enforcement authority and that their government has provocateurs who have joined the forum to try to provoke people into admitting to criminal actions or to make statements that can be criminally charged in New Zealand.

Words cannot describe how sorry I feel for our fellow gun owners.

This period of time is also to enable some people to apply for an exemption to possess prohibited items (e.g. Dealers, Collectors and people involved in wild animal and animal pest control).
I see millions of New Zealanders becoming gun collectors in the near future. ;)

Take away from NZ gun ban ... Do Not Become Like New Zealand!

We MUST win our war against the anti-gun crowd.

What happened in NZ should be a wake up call to all gun owners to vote out anti-gun law makers and vote in pro-gun law makers.

The elephant in the room appears to be the collector's exemption. What does it mean to be a "collector" in New Zealand?

I also see many New Zealanders becoming competitive match shooters in the near future. ;) Like "sport shooters" in Australia allowed to buy banned firearms for "sporting" purposes.

Here's something I found on "sporting/gun collecting" in NZ - http://www.armsregister.com/article...nzar_a4_nz_firearm_&_licencing_categories.pdf

"B Endorsement - Sporting (competition) pistols
  • Applicant must be a current member of a Police approved pistol club
  • Applicant must be sponsored by their club
  • The endorsement holder must attend at least 12 club activities (either at their home club or to another recognised club) in a financial year
  • Normally limited to no more than 12 pistols registered to their licence
  • Pistols must be of an approved sporting type i.e. barrel length of more than 10 cm (3.9 in)
  • Pistols can only be carried to and from the range in a locked container with ammunition in a separate container or to a gunsmith
  • Pistols may only be shot on a Police approved pistol club range.

C Endorsement
- Restricted Weapons, Pistols can also be held on the C endorsement instead of the B. Common special reasons include:
  • Collecting (must provide evidence in the form of books, club membership, collection of A type firearms), Museum curator, Family heirlooms and Theatrical.
  • C category firearms must be stored in an inoperable condition
  • Can never be used with live ammunition, but blanks are allowed for movie making and re-enacting
  • Can only be taken to an approved display venue, re-enactment event or to another collector for sale"

I believe gun ban that happened in New Zealand will turn many on the fence/moderate about gun control to now lean towards pro-gun/2A and say "Heck No" when "reasonable gun control" is mentioned by the anti-gun crowd.

Because now we all know "reasonable gun control" will ultimately lead to gun ban.

Some firearms will be exempt and exemptions for shooting competition being worked out - https://www.foxbusiness.com/features/new-zealand-firearm-ban-which-guns-are-permitted

"However, other guns that serve a 'legitimate' purpose will be exempt.

Those include .22-caliber rifles that hold no more than 10 rounds and semi-automatic and pump action shotguns with a non-detachable tubular magazine that hold no more than five rounds."

Yes nz forums ARE being monitored by nz police and the media. Likely that nz intelligence services are also monitoring.

Overseas websites have been blocked including ar15.com although this is slowly being opened back up.

It used to be extra security and background checks. Nz police determine if you were or not. For example machine guns of ww2. Collectors endorsement can only be applied for after getting your standard license.

So, having appropriate rifles of the theme you are collecting and being a member of appropriate clubs helps to get it.

Right now, we just dont know.

Compensation for newly prohibited firearms (all centre fire semi automatic) has not been determined. Government thinks it will cost 300 million dollars. The firearms community is saying it will be more like 1 billion dollars.

No. No sporting exemption exists in the new legislation (which was passed in 1 week. Government claims to have read 13000 submissions in 2 days. BS)

B endorsement is pistol license.

We have more law changes coming in a month

That has been true for a very long time, we just have more people understanding it as the antis get bolder, thinking they have us.
As antis get bolder and yell gun ban/confiscation, I believe it will have opposite effect of solidifying gun owners' resolve.

Dang.

Like I already posted, NZ gun ban will force people to choose sides in the US, for 2A or against 2A.
The legislation is so badly worded that some lever actions are now prohibited. More than 10 rounds is now illegal. Some of them are VERY expensive here

Service rifle shooting is now dead. Only bolt action class remains.

Farmers are now complaining because the only centre fire semi automatic exemption is for professional cullers. Farmers are forced to pay for professional pest controllers now

Ammo restrictions can be made by order in council. This means that the prime minister can degree it illegal. No due process. We are expecting 338 lapua and above to be prohibited
