Inspired by @Heir Kommt Die Sonne post on the Revolver forum (the Python and the Walking Dead), Has anyone ever purchased a specific firearm because they saw one on tv or in a movie?

Or, secondarily, has television or a movie inspired you, if not with a specific weapon but perhaps a certain type of firearm?

For me it wasn't a specific weapon, but all those 1950's westerns on tv definitely pushed me in the direction of my lever action rifles.

Never. I only admire guns that are reliable and I don't mind if they're ugly. Those kind don't usually make it into the movies.:)

Me (and every kid in the free world) wanted a Walther PPK after watching From Russia with Love,,,
I was one of the lucky kids who had an uncle who owned one,,,
It never was mine but I did get to shoot it quite often.

My Uncle was very cool,,,
He let me do the introduction scene from the movies.

Probably everyone in the world who owns a Mares Leg got the idea from Wanted Dead or Alive,,,
It's my understanding that there never were any made in the old west.

The pistol that I did purchase directly because of a TV show was a Walther P-38 from the TV show Man from U.N.C.L.E.
I had the toy version with stock, scope, and barrel extension when I was a kid,,,
I bought a real one at a gun show just because of that toy one I had.

Unfortunately I had to pawn the gun a few years later to make a car payment,,,
I never was able to obtain another one to keep.

Probably the reason I got my Ruger Single Six.
I also rather liked Sgt Saunder's Tommygun.
and Caje's (among many others) M1 Garand!

Caje was a lefty and I watched him reload a few times to see how we lefties aught to do it LOL

My dad got me a 9422 because I liked westerns so much.

I think I can safely say my initial interest in the SAA and lever guns came from a mix of history and movies/TV.

I thought that was pretty cool as well. Hence my avatar.:D And my screen name. :D:D I don't have a real, working 1928 Thompson but I recently bought a castrated semi auto M1A Auto Ordnance Thompson with 16" barrel.

I also like lever-action rifles .... inspired I guess from any number of Hollywood oaters from my youth .... or recent DVDs.

I've never actually bought a gun based on seeing it on TV or in a movie, but I have added a few to my shopping list!

I've wanted a FN P90 Personal Defense Weapon ever since I saw them on the old Stargate SG-1 TV series. They were just so cool! The only reason I have not yet, is the fact that they are only available to civilians in the ugly long barrel version. Lately, I've been wondering about buying one and getting it legally SBR'ed?

Ever since I was a kid, I've wanted a Walther PPK, based on the fact that James Bond carried one. I really like the look of the gun, and thought more than once of getting one as a CCW, but there are just so many better choices available these days I never got around to buying one.

Finally, I really wanted to get a 1874 Sharps Rifle, after seeing the movie Quigley Down Under. The only thing holding me back on this is that I'm reluctant to spend $2400-3000 on a range toy, which is all it would be for me.

I'll admit -- yeah, I've acquired a few pistols because I was inspired by a movie.

The Untouchables ... got me interested in classic 1911s ... caught that bug when the movie came out, and had it ever since.
John Wayne movies - yep, I had to get a 1895 lever action and SAA.
The Matrix. No particular gun. Just made me want to have a big giant dufflebag full of guns, lol.

There are two pistols I still can't beleive I never picked up,
- Walther PPK (or even the PPK/S) - huge Bond movie fan, but never picked up a PPK
- S&W Model 29 from Dirty Harry - probably one of the most iconic movie handguns I can think of besides the PPK ... but it always seemed too expensive for me to buy just on a movie whim.

Dang this thread anyhow! :fire:

It got me thinking about how nice it would be,,,
To have a P-38 in the same case along with my K-98 Mauser

I just spent the last 20 minutes surfing gunbroker for a Walther P38,,,
I did make a bid on an Interarms import with three magazines,,,
I wouldn't have bid but the auction is over in 30 minutes.

I hate it when this happens. ;)

Yeah, my .45-110 Shiloh Sharps ("Quigley Down Under") rifle. Technically I didn't buy it myself though - my wife ordered it for me for our 25th wedding anniversary. But that was shortly after the movie came out, so Shiloh Rifle Company had a 2-year backorder for their "Quigley" rifles. Consequently, I didn't get my 25th wedding anniversary gift until my wife's and my 27th wedding anniversary.:)
BTW, come June next year, we'll be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. My wife is also very much into guns, hunting and shooting, but she hasn't hinted about any new guns she'd like to have since she first seen an advertisement for those Henry "American Rose" .22 lever actions in a magazine. And I already bought her one of those. So I'm open to suggestions about a gun for a 50th wedding anniversary gift.:)

I had to have a 45-110 sharps after seeing the movie Quigley down Under. Regret to say that i sold it shortly thereafter cause the crescent butt plate on that gun will kill your shoulder shooting hunting loads.

Crescent butt plates kill your shoulder because they are not meant to be fired from the shoulder. They are fired from the upper bicep and actually quite comfortable to shoot. They would not have been so popular for 60 years if they were painful to shoot.

So, did you win it?

My movie gun I had to have was a mini 14 after watching the A-team as a kid. Once I owned one I realized why Hannibal never hit anyone...

The first gun I bought was snub nose .38 .I wanted one since I was 8 yrs old after watching a tv detective show called Peter Gunn with my dad.
I liked Peter Gun but only as a re-run and din't really notice the gun

It was Quinn Martin's; The F.B.I. that really made me notice the Snubs.... Those guys were like snipers with those little poppers.

Todd.

I never bought a gun after seeing it in a movie. I just never was tuned in to the firearms as much as the story. Except the James Bond PPK thing, that gun I wanted but never bought.

Not to say I don't own guns that were in movies or TV. Looking through the IMFDB website lets me know most of what I have were certainly in movies or TV.
