Walmart stopped selling all ammo.

...in general I don't like getting angry or even upset. That's the singular reason I never shop Wally, there's always something that I will find unpleasant. Our local ACE just expanded their ammo department with a sign: ASK US TO MATCH YOUR BEST PRICE.

I have two Ace within ten miles that sell ammo,,,,,the one to the north has killer prices, far lower than ordering online.. the other one, to the south, will order in any, and I mean any ammo, I request. They also sell guns!

Your ACE sells ammo?!?!?!?!?

ACE Hardware in town (Pocatello - about 30 miles) sells a few guns, and even fewer types of ammo. CAL Ranch, a farm and ranch supply store carries a much larger selection of guns and ammo, not to mention they have as good of a selection of reloading equipment and components as any one store within a hundred miles of here.
Oh, and CAL Ranch is right across the road from Walmart. A person looking to buy ammo in Walmart could walk across to CAL Ranch, buy ammo, and walk back before a Walmart salesperson with “the key” shows up at the guns and ammo counter.o_O
CAL Ranch doesn’t sell beer though. ACE Hardware does - at cost plus 10%.:D

Was at wally world yesterday and saw 00 buck in the ammo case. Girl comes over with the key and we both notice signs on ammo case "no ammo sales at this time. "

Even the boxes of shells that are out on shelves say they cannot be purchased.

What gives??

ETA: Walmart in glen ellyn IL, a western suburb of chicago.
Couldn't tell you. I haven't bought anything at a Wal Mart in probably 10 years now. Haven't missed it a bit.

I bought 2100 rounds of Blazer 22lr in a Tucson Walmart yesterday. They had quite a bit of 22 ammo. Had to wait forever for someone with a key to show up.

OKC Walmarts have drank the bad Kool Aid and have limited ammo. Many times when I'm in there I wonder why.

Why even bothering parking at a Walmart (unless you shop there anyway), going in and waiting on a clerk to appear at the counter--assuming that a given store has your ammo type in stock.

Persistent searching of Academy Sports' website has indicated during two random searches this week that 9mm, 45 auto is available "for shipping". A friend uses a little .45, but seldom.
Only checked those chamberings, and only checked on those two days.

This is far simpler --if you own a credit card-- than driving to a store and hoping that something you like has not been cleaned out by the Unprepared or the "Personal Power" Profit Flippers.
With the new --temporary-- CA District Court ruling that CA's so-called "citizens" don't need a background check to buy ammo, factor this into online searches.

Definitely not a Walmart-wide or state-wide thing. Our Walmarts here (LaSalle County, IL) still have and sell ammo.

My guess is one of two things. A) FFL lapse as suggested by someone else or B) County or city specific order (like how the Urbana emergency declaration gave their mayor the power to suspend sales of firearms and ammo).

I honestly don't look anymore because the only thing I really ever looked for there was handgun ammo, which they no longer sell. Occasionally I'll peek at their 22lr stock, but I'm pretty set there for the moment. Their centerfire rifle stuff has, in my experience, been overpriced pretty consistently.

While sometimes locally convenient, I never found Walmart to be very competitive in the ammo cartridges I purchase. Locally I have many Academy Sports & Outdoors stores available, and the surfeit of retailers that will ship to my doorstep for anything much beyond range fodder.

Walmart doesn't carry handgun ammo. If you weren't aware of this then you haven't been paying attention. Also the California ruling is on hold. Again, pay attention.

Trying to figure out if it is worth going and getting in line to see if i am one of the 100 the let in at a time to get a printer cartridge. If I do I will swing by the ammo section and see if there is ANYTHING left on the shelves. End of March the shelves were bare when I got a new head band light.

Once wal-mart is done selling ammo everywhere, it will be talked about like the good old days. Like how we used to be able to buy a shotgun at Sears and Roebuck or Western Auto. This kind of kills the argument of why 30-06 or 30-30 is a good choice, so if you forget ammo you can find it in any Wal-Mart in the country.

I see the trend of guns and ammo being only found at speciality retailers like Bass Pro or dedicated gun shops in the future. Oh well, we still have the internet.

Texas10mm:
True. I had forgotten about Walmart only having rifle ammo.

The general point was to question why bother using Wally World for Any ammo.

Well I needed a printer cartridge today and the closest place was WM. Or drive another hour to go to Best Buy. So while in there i walked to the gun area. The ammo section was about 2/3 full and there was something for at least most rifles and shottys. Some of the 12 GA promo loads were gone but the stuff for a buck more per 100 was still thete. Couple types of .22 as well. Even a couple buckets o bullets. Kinda normal for a spring day around here. Except the 100 people at a time limit.

Last time I was in WM to get my hunting license I had to listen to the clerk tell me how much he hated working there.

Ace is the place, with the helpful gun girl.

As long as you guys are going to continue to rave about Walmart, I’m going to brag about my Ace’s.

Young lady that works there, carries, and is very knowledgeable on current handguns..

reloading equip,,,,,,,they will order anything I want,,including powder and primers and it arrives on their next shipment, no extra charge.

went to one of my Ace’s today,, parked 10 feet from the door,,,, 7 paces to the gun counter, or course, manned by the pretty young lady....bought ten boxes of 9mm,, $67.24 out the door, tax included, plus I accumulate Ace Reward points, and 1% off on my credit card.
Oh, no mask required and everyone was dress normal

So tell me about your trip to Walmart, please./. How far did you have to walk through the parking lot, how far through the store, how long did you have to wait for someone with ‘the key’, and how long at checkout??
Did I mention is was in and out in less than 15 minutes, including some small talk with the lady??

Did you see any weird costumes??
