Concealed Carry with Bib Overalls

I would think a Smart Carry would work well and be comfortable.

I only wear my bibs in the winter, and have my normal pants on under them. I carry appendix and its no big deal.

A little warm in the summer to do that though. :)

ETA: Id watch the Thunderwear. I have both, and the Thunderwear is flimsy and isnt near the quality as the Smart Carry.

Its so flimsy that I could very easily trip the trigger of my Glock 26 in it just by pushing on the fabric.

No matter how hard Ive tried with the Smart Carry, Ive never been able to do it. Ive carried a 26 in mine for quite a few years now too, with zero problems.

I was trying to remember the name/brand of the other holster that is the same as the Thunderwear holster. I have one but don't remember which brand it is. I haven't used it in a long time.

The only downside to the Thunderwear or Smart Carry is that it places the gun right on top of your "junk". Other than that, they are viable options.

The type is a very handy and versatile holster and its one of a few I wont be without and have at least one spare.

As I said, I tried both, and wasnt at all happy with the Thunderwear. I even contacted the company to make sure I didnt get a knock off (bought mine off eBay), and they couldnt bother to reply.

Ive had great luck and have been very happy with the Smart Carry's, and have actually worn a couple out in use.

How about sewing/adding a deep enough pocket inside the chest of the overalls that you can reach into, using matching thread? You can line it with a rubberized or some sort of waterproof material to keep your sweat off it.

Might be workable with a light gun. Or it might be annoying, but not a tremendous effort to find out. If it doesn't work for you at least you've got a deep pocket for your phone if the overalls don't already have one.

I wear bib overalls. I don't have any trouble putting holstered guns in the side pockets. The Carhartt have some of the biggest side pockets compared to Pointer Brand and Round House. I can fit a j-frame, 1911, Colt SAA with a 5.5" barrel. The stocks stick out of the pocket of course, so I do have to wear a cover garment. I prefer that to fishing around in the pocket for a grip. It's possible to lengthen the pockets if you prefer the gun ride deeper in it. There are a lot of how-to videos from Millennials that want to extend their skinny-jeans pockets to fit their big-screen smartphones. Use the same technique and you can bury a Desert Eagle in there -- it just might hit your knee when you walk though. Make the extension longer than you want, use safety-pins to adjust it to the correct depth, then just stitch across it at the height you determine is right and remove the safety pins.

Back in the day, decades ago, when I often wore bib overalls, but had no money for special-purpose guns or holsters, I simply wore a belt and my regular IWB holster under the bib overalls. My overalls were loose-fitting, and I had no problem reaching the gun. Crude, yes, but it got the job done for me at a time when that was the best I could do.

Might try a couple different pairs of overalls, carhartts seem to have a lot more variation these days. My bibs have big enough pockets to fit a j frame, a 365 or even a 320 but the last one is a bit heavy in a pocket.

I put mine in the bib with either a pocket holster or a koozie to cover the trigger and carry the mag in the pocket on the leg
When you say "in the bib," do you mean in one of the pockets that are already on the bib, or have you sewn a special pocket onto the inside of the bib? Also, what kind of gun do you carry in the bib?
I'm asking because I've been trying for a long time to find a good way to carry my little 2" Taurus 32 H&R (it's slightly smaller than a 2" Smith j-frame 38 Special) while I'm working outside and wearing bibs. When I'm working way out on the back of the place and wearing bibs, I usually just wear a tool belt with my 32 H&R in a holster somewhere on it. But we're out in the country, and when I'm on the back part of our place, I don't much care about concealed carry. However, when I'm just working in the yard close to the house and wearing bibs, I'd prefer that nobody except me and my wife knows I'm carrying.
Anyway, thanks!:)

I don't know. My only experience with bib overalls was the ones the hippie chicks were sporting in the early 70's. Jeez weren't they turn-offs.
Not if that was all they had on........:p
to the OP, would some sort of chest work or would that be too awkward and uncomfortable?. If so, could your spouse or someone redo the pockets, making them deeper? (probably the easiest and cheapest route)

A friend of mine has a pocket on the inside of the bib. I do not know what he carries. He is not a small man.

I carry a 45 Shield in the koozie and a M&P 45 in a pocket holster, when hunting I use a shoulder rig and use a flannel shirt as a cover but that doesn't work in the summer. My overalls are Dickies if that matters, I wear the tan Carharts during hunting season.

I don't know.....I saw quite a few fine looking gals wearing them, side buttons undone with bikini underwear (or none), and thin tee shirt and no bra. What's not to like??

As for carrying concealed, the back pocket of your carry side is plenty big for a compact and doesn't print so bad that it's real obvious, if you're out and about on your own property.

.... and let us not forget the overall legs cut back to Daisy Mae/ Daisy Duke style on some of those hippy girls.....

Maybe a different brand of Over Hauls is in order. Or a more compact gun.

I happen to be wearing a very worn set of Liberty Brand I only wear around the house or for a swim suit( cut off A bit above the knee after the third set of knee patches wore out and off) at the moment and walked over to the book case and dropped a Charter Undercover in an old S&W brand model 21-62 outside the belt holster in the front right pocket and It did not stick out though gapped a little.

did not look like the guy in the bathroom mirror was carrying.

BTW for single tank dives in Florida I have been known to wear overalls and a long sleeve Pull over instead of a wet suit. Works and is easy to put on and take off. Gets some strange looks, especially from tourists that drove Ten or more hours southward to try our springs and spent huge amounts on dive gear.

I was wearing a pair of Duluth Trading bib overalls today, and carried just like i always do with other trousers. Sig P365 in an Alabama Pocket Holster strong (left) side front pocket. The "watch" pocket on the right hand side easily carries an extra 12 round mag.

I wear bibs to work, but I'll always wear something underneath as well (for me the purpose is so that I can take them off before I get in the car and leave the nasties in the trunk instead of rubbing them all over the interior). So I carry a subcompact in a pocket holster in the back pocket of my jeans or shorts, under the bibs.

Key brand overalls have a flap pocket on the bib that is perfectly sized for my lcp. The techniclip on my lcp is perfect for overall pocket carry.
I am also a proponent of paddle holsters. Even a cheap fobus paddle holster is versatile and valuable if you want to carry in overalls, sweatpants, gym shorts, etc

Same. In Alaska I often had them on under my parka and carried in a chest rig under the parka when out on the tundra.

Not very feasible for summer though.

One of the reasons I stopped buying bibs when I started CCW.

Easiest way I found when wearing them was to sew a heavy strip about 2-3 inches wide inside the bib along the same stitch lines , its opening was wide enough to carry an inside the pant holster with straps, so the weapon rode against the bib, the strap against the skin, carried a 3 1/2 27 back in the late 60's that way never had a problem

When I was very little, my Mother made me wear those bib overalls, the red, blue, or brown corduroy. Called them "rompers." Hated them and swore when I got big enough I'd never wear bib overalls again.

I have been to churches where the men came on Sunday morning wearing bib overalls, white dress shirt with tie, and an old suit coat. But overalls were all they had.
