Mister, you're very talented. I wish I had the skills and equipment to pump out my own pistol from scratch. This is Mongo, my largest handgun. He weighs four and one half pounds. He is chambered in .45 P.I.T.A. A self explanatory acronym. A 45-70 case cut down to 1 1/2". I made Mongo a few years back out of scraps of steel and a barrel that Les gave me.
Obviously a copy of a Rolling block, with a few tweaks, all coil springs being one. I chambered Mongo with a drill bit and screwed up my first attempt. Mongo was supposed to be a .45 Colt. A one size larger bit and a lot more care resulted in a serviceable chamber that the shortened 45-70 case fit in nicely.
My favorite load is a 385 gr 45-70 bullet ahead of all the 4227 that I can stuff in the case, about 18 grains Recoil is mild and I have no idea what the velocity is. Probably not more than 600-700 FPS, but judging by how hard it whacks my steel gong I'm guessing it packs a pretty good wallop.
It didn't take that much skill. Copying a gun that is stupid simple is....well... kinda simple.Mister, you're very talented. I wish I had the skills and equipment to pump out my own pistol from scratch.
Top Three...
.45-70 BFR with rare factory 5.5" barrel- sold down river because it was still too ponderous.
Troy 7.5" AR pistol- Pre-2016 election resent to myself (still have it).
Custom .475 Linebaugh Super Blackhawk by the BFR guy before he started doing BFRs (still have it).
I just bought a Mk. IV with the 10” barrel... I was thinking big bore revolvers and completely forgot about that rimfire and it’s 14.5” OAL.Over 40 years ago, I had one of Ruger's semiauto .22LR pistols with a 10" barrel. The biggest one I have now is a Single Six Combo (LR & Mag.) with the 6" (?) barrel.
The biggest larger caliber is a GP-100 in .357 with a 4" barrel. I tried the 6" but it was "nose heavy" and kept trying to make the barrel tip drop all the time. The 4" balances much better in my hands.
View attachment 941162 this tiny guy sports a 10" barrel, that's absurd. Absurdly awesome. Being a single action it is slender but it's the biggest I've got.
