The Wyoming State Museum has 12 Winchester 1894 or Model 94 .30-30 carbines that were used by guards at the Wyoming State Penitentiary. The Winchesters and one Savage Model 99, also in .30-30, were transferred to the museum from the Department of Corrections in 1981. The carbines are in fair to good condition externally. They show little evidence of use. Bores are pristine. A couple of the stocks have been inscribed: one says "George Custer," another marked "Hank" and decorated with an inlaid penny. No other modifications are evident.
