Most RELIABLE 9mm handgun?

CZ fan boy.
I have MANY CZs, not a problem with any of them.
That said, CZs are known for having a short leade, which means they can be ammo sensitive.
if you prefer 147 grain loads you might have issues.

Would like your thoughts on the most reliable 9mm semi-auto hand gun. Please leave out accuracy, weight, concealed carry ability, beauty, and price. Do not include what is completely unavailable ie; not made for over 50 years.

I am searching for a semi-auto 9mm that will go boom when you pull the trigger with most any kind of ammo, including reloaded ammo. Number two in importance would be durability.
Ruger P89.

“shot it for ten years and never cleaned it. Never had a single malfunction”

- countless internet comments, one of them being mine

Bill Wilson of Wilson Combat, who
builds excellent 1911s, says if you
had to go into a store and just buy
off the shelf the most reliable 9mm,
it would be the Beretta 92.

He has preached this since the 1990s.
Masad Ayoob and possibly a dozen
other top competitive shooters have
said the same thing.

The Beretta 92s non-tilting straight
feed barrel has a lot to do with its
reliability.

Mastering its first shot DA is no
problem with a bit of training or
if you have a background in DA
revolver shooting. True enough
though a lot of shooters are too
lazy to learn the DA/SA manual.

Reliability and durability aren't the same thing.

Reliability assumes a reasonably clean, well maintained weapon. With that in mind most any modern, and many older guns, are going to be pretty close. While there are exceptions I'd not include most of the budget guns such as Taurus, Ruger, CZ and others. Those guns aren't standard issue in most of the world for a reason.

But most of the guns actually chosen by militaries and LE agencies have all met some pretty rigorous testing. Brands like S&W, Beretta, Sig, Glock all compare pretty closely and contracts are awarded based on features and price more than reliability. And not every model made by all of those manufacturers would make the cut either.

Durability is the ability to continue to function even after being abused, neglected, or for extended periods of time. There may be others who are as good or better, but so far nobody has proven their gun to be more durable than a Glock. Until they do, I'm going with Glock.

Take your pick.

Then buy one.

Then, some time later, pick something else and buy it.

Repeat.

With few exceptions, most firearms are going to be extremely reliable out of the box, and a great many makes and models are known for their exceptional reliability.

So a definitive "most reliable" likely doesn't exist.
I think this pretty much sums it up.

Buy any of the makers of known quality, and you will likely have no problems. Most dont ever shoot them enough to even come close to wearing them out or seeing trouble. Crap ammo and mags are probably the worst offenders trouble wise. Great training aids in their own rights too, but I dont think a lot of people see it that way or understand the advantages of those types of troubles.

The way you find out what works best for you, all around, is the advice in the quote above. You know what you know by actually shooting as many different guns as you can, and wringing them out. No other way I know of to get the experience to make a true decision.

CZ-75B has an incredible reputation. I have a friend with about 30K with no malfunctions. My CZ has about 1000, no malfunctions, just a low round count. My Auto Ordinance 1911 in 9mm has about 2500-3000, no malfunctions (unlike EVERY 45acp 1911 I have encountered), however it requires real full power 9mm to run/lock the slide back. 115 at 1200+. I have had more malfunctions with Glocks/Berettas than the two above.

I’ll stear you away from a couple that have been less than reliable for me. Taurus G2C, plastic parts and fail to eject and trigger fall to reset on occasion. Kimber Elite Ultra, springs are too stiff to allow action to work properly. A few hundred rounds of 147 grain will loosen it up a bit but how do you know it’s loosened up forever?

I had one of them and it drove me crazy with some FTF's. Bought it due to fantastic reputation.

Yup, CZ 75Bs have a reputation for being very picky about ammo, and if you're shooting handloads you have to make sure they will feed your selected bullet, and that it's at an OAL that is not too long to fit their short throat, while at the same time long enough that it won't choke during feeding.

The Kahr CW9. I've had about 5 or 6 of them, and I don't know if I've ever had a jam, FTFeed, FTFire, or other problem one with them... in all honesty. I also have a CM9, and a PM9, and they have had slight problems, but have otherwise been reliable overall... just not 100% like the CW9. I've had a CW45 and a P45... and they are a train wreck, at least compared to the CW9.

I get I kick out of people talking about how reliable the Beretta 92 is. The M9 version wasn't so reliable back in 190-91 over in the Middle East. They didn't like that sand and would not function anywhere close to the old "battler rattle" 1911's. I know that the M9 has improved since then. If I can't run a firearm in every type of environment from ten arctic to deserts, and tropical jungles, then I won't mess with it. And yes I have been in all those different environments while in the Army.

Lots of great options out there today, but NONE have been repeatedly torture tested like everyone wants to do with Glock's.

I have mostly Gen 4 and 5 models. I would absolutely say a Gen 3 or 4 are pretty much bullet proof. Gen 5 is still a but new but none of mine have had a single issue.
