I guess I am the polar opposite. I am a bit of a recoil junkie, and enjoy reloading, two attributes which preclude settling on .22, as such I don't personally own any, though each of the kids have at least one in the cabinet.

I don't own any guns I don't enjoy shooting. I've had some that weren't fun for me, but they're long gone now.
.22's are a lot of fun and easy on the body, ears, wallet etc. They're very relaxing for me when I've had a stressful day, whether it's shooting small targets with a rifle or steel with a pistol.

Larger calibers help me vent frustration though. Something soothing about the heavier recoil and smacking steel plates hard enough to make them swing. It works well for about 10 minutes, until I can't find my brass.

chicharrones, yes, it is a .22 . . . 3. hehe

May eventually see about getting a complete dedicated upper in 22lr so I can shoot it more. Not sure which company to use though.....and there aren't a lot out there at the moment.
I have a PSA upper that works great and is plenty accurate, a cautionary note it may grow it's own dedicated lower mine did.
As to getting down to 22 only I doubt it I can see some of the hard kickers getting passed down though. As to noise I went down the NFA rabbit hole and love it.

mavracer, I was hoping that another "safe hearing act" would be proposed and passed. It is absurd that suppressors are regulated like they are. It serves no purpose but to cause more expense on people.

I'll check out the PSA uppers, thanks!

Nope, and extremely doubt I ever will go that route. Don't get me wrong as I enjoy shooting my .22s but I also enjoy shooting my .38s ' my .357s, my 9mm.s, my .44s, and my .45s. I can't think of a single reason why I would want to limit myself to just one particular cartridge. Probably because I'm having too much fun shooting and using all of them!

@bannockburn love your collection was hopping to see that combat commander I love so well!

Nope.

I know I'm in the minority but I don't really enjoy .22 LR. I never have and likely never will. I would wager I have not shot more than 100 rounds in the last 5 years or so.

I have 3 and my wife has 1 in the safe but its just not for me. My youngest loves his pistol and so does my wife but the rifles just sit there.

No downsizing for me, but for the last 5-6 years all I have shot is 22LR-especially now with the ammo shortages. The shooting skills carry over to centerfire, easier on the budget and ears, especially on indoor ranges.

This is what I shoot. I love it! Very reliable and decent accuracy (I break clays very consistently at 100 yards with a red dot) and I’m 59.

I have mine on a standard PSA AR upper that I only use for this conversion kit.

I have the must fun with 22's anyway.[/quote

+1

Recently began shooting 22's also after a long pause. Pulled out my old Remington 597 and put a Mueller 6x18 scope on top. After a few brand experiments I found that CCI Mini-Mag Target ammunition is very accurate in that rifle.

After a bit of practice, I am able to make some 50-100 yard hits on prairie dogs....more hits than misses so it is a ton of fun!

I just got read of my last couple 22's yesterday. I am slowly working my way down to one firearm, and depending on what happens at the Mayo Clinic at the end of the month I may have to get read of that one. It's a very difficult time to bear for several reasons. When it comes to firearms they have been part of my life since I first fired one at age 7 or 8. (a 12 gauge my two older brothers thought it might look cool when I pulled the trigger -RIP Bob, and thank you) One caught the gun and the other caught me. Never have I been afraid of recoil . LOL, As an adult I always slept with one at arms length from me. Also as an adult they have always been part of my life. From shooting, to repairing, customizing and to buying and selling as an FFL dealer, and being a gun show promoter. All things have a beginning and an end. There are other things I can think of to pass time, but nothing as enjoyable as the shooting sports. No sympathy asked for or wanted here - please don't even think of those types of response. I long ago have come to terms with my mortality , and knew this is not the worst that has happened to other people. Just thinking out loud about the OP's reduction in firearms. .22 RF is a fun cartridge to shoot and still much cheaper than center fire ammo so a good choice for hanging on to shooting fun. A farmer I got to know well when my LGS owner still had his shop at his farm site, used to come in regularly and buy a case of .22LR ammo at a time. He had 6 Remington .22 rifles and 6 Model 34 S&W pistols. On many Sundays his kids would come over and they would have a fun afternoon of shooting. His Model 34's were all 2 inch guns and I always tried to buy one from him, but he wouldn't part with any. Can't blame him.

Not my choice either but better than a sharp stick…

Thankfully, I don't have to use "better than nothing" as a criteria for a pistol I carry to defend my life.
9mm minimum, independent of location or anticipated threat, 9mm is my minimum.

Perhaps,......but when a person can't really shoot 9mm to test and keep proficient with it,....it isn't best to carry what you can't train with.

If I could only keep one of my calibers, it would not be 22lr. The only time I enjoy that round is plinking cans with my daughter, but that is not my primary reason for owning firearms. There's no way that would work for me, but we all have different needs.

I have a Winchester md63, 2nd series Matchtarget and a frontier scout that I haven’t shot in years, so no I wouldn’t go down to just .22lr.

Maybe just a couple of .380acp pistols if I had to thin the herd.

I wish I COULD shoot different calibers. I'd love to carry a S&W Shield Plus. I'd love to get an 1851 Richards Mason open top conversion....or a SAA in 45 Colt. I'd love to have a 1911 in 45ACP. Many things I'd like to have and shoot.

Without getting too personal, what are the reasons you feel like you can't do these things?

Or did I miss that part?

You could train all day with a squirt gun but that still wouldn’t make it the best to carry to defend your life with.

That said, I would bet I have 3:1 more .22’s that everything else combined. They just can’t do everything I use firearms for but if they could, I’d be set.

I’ve always had a .22. The first few guns I bought when I turned 18 included a 10-22, and the first handgun I bought when 21 was an Iver Johnson TP-22. (I still have both guns ). Of the last five guns I’ve bought, one is a .22 auto, one a pump .22 rifle and one a beautiful S&W .22 Mag 4” 48-7 that is in the regulatory penalty box for another eight days.

Every non-work range session involves a .22 (or a bunch of them) and I love shooting them all.

I’ll always own one .22...or ten...or more... but I just can’t ever see myself giving up my .38 Specials, my 9mms, my....;).

Be it rimfire or centerfire; no matter what you are shooting go out and enjoy it to the fullest. :)

Stay safe.

I doubt I'll ever go that route, though I have more .22LR guns than any other cartridge, and shoot my Mark II and Mark IV twice a week, every week on steel. I enjoy nearly all the others too much, plus I can't see replacing my carry .45s, 9s and 10s with .22LR. Just stuck on guns in general for well over 50 years.
