The young man was walking to his tree stand when he observed a man trying to steal a tractor and log splitter. The teenager called his father who came over and confronted the man, at some point the thief charged the teenager and the teenager shot him in self defense.

I guess the thief didn’t believe the teenager would shoot him. I hope the young man deals with this ok.

What's the lesson in this case? I think we're all familiar with the fact that anything capable of killing a deer is capable of killing a man. It is that you shouldn't underestimate the will even of a young person to defend themselves?

The lesson is that if we can believe the news report, the young man did almost everything right. He didn’t confront the man, he called an adult and when the attack came he responded.

I think he should have called 911 instead of his dad, but we don’t know how old the teen is and it sounds like dad’s response time was faster.

Reception & diagnostic center?

That’s an odd name for a maximum security prison.

Since he was going hunting, odds are there was a broadhead on that arrow; IME broadheads make bigger wounds than an expanded handgun bullet, very lethal.

When I was a teen, I had less restraint than I do now; I would take an armed teen very seriously.
Decision making part of brain (probably the part with restraint) is not fully complete until early 20's ...

''The boy was not taken into custody. The property has been the target of several recent thefts, deputies said.''

Bows & arrows have killed more ppl on this planet then bullets. I believe the recent thefts just ended. Here endeth the lesson.

Not a great way to die and over something as STUPID as a couple hundred dollars of stuff. Hope this young man can deal with the aftermath Ok (mental, spiritual). Additionally I hope the decedents family can deal with it also (the often forgotten victims).

The perp is beyond learning but he was probably not alone in stealing stuff, maybe the lesson will spread.

I wonder what future measures Dad and Son will take.
