The headline is a typical ploy by newspersons and advertisers. If it got your attention then the ploy worked.
Today I played cowboy ... sort of. I have a purebred Limousin bull that is nearing the end of his productivity. I also have a small "teaser" bull that keeps the old fella' honest.
Today the teaser decide he was able to displace the old bull and become the big dog. They started a pushing match which the big older bull won easily. However, the teaser kept on until the big bull who is 1000 lbs bigger, was exhausted in the unusually hot weather. The big bull collapsed and the teaser tried to kill him with his short straight horns. I attempted tp intervene but the teaser continued in his quest.
I grabbed a Savage 99 in .243 that was loaded with 85 gr. Nosler Partitions and shot him in the neck.
He went down immediately, kicked once and died. It surprised me that the little 85 gr Nosler was that effective but was happy that it save my herd bull.
Since I was close and was able to get a neck shot, this round was very effective but I would not count on it stopping a 600 lb elk.
My wife helped me cut the loins out of the teaser along with the 2 hind quarters. We now have quite a bit of beef aging in an outside refrigerator but I expect it to be tough given the circumstances. I used a Damascus blade knife gifted to me by member Loon Wulf. Thanks buddy.
Never underestimate a Nosler Partition!
