The One(s) You DON'T Regret Trading or Selling

S&W model 63 Kit Gun- poorly fitted, heavy trigger- couldn't hit a large building with it. Sold to a friend.
Beretta 92- liked it, but consistently shot very low with it. Sold to another friend, who shoots it well...
Colt Python (sniff)- sold to finance purchase of Anschutz. Should have found another way to raise $$$- maybe counterfeiting...;)

I do not regret getting rid of my five JM Marlin lever action rifles.

Why?

I had "The Marlin Jam" happen on two of them.

While I had this fixed, the catastrophic nature of this jam, i.e. it cannot be fixed without tools / during a fight, caused me to lose faith in lever action rifles in general.

I do not regret getting rid of my Ruger Redhawk .357 Magnum 8-shot.

Why?

Because even after having a trigger job done on it the trigger was still horrible.

Just like the "Marlin Jam," the Redhawk action design has inherent flaws that limit its potential.

These days, before I buy a firearm, I deep dive the nature of how it operates so I can understand its capabilities and limitations before spending the money.

YMMV.

You should have fired it, I'll bet you wouldn't have sold it. Sure it's heavy but soaks up recoil like no other. Out of the box the most reliable and accurate .45 I own.

I sold it, and my Tangfolio Witness Elite Match 45 ACP and went all in on a Glock 21 with a bunch of aftermarket accessories.

For my values, both tangible and intangible, I made the right choice.

Nothing wrong with a G21, I have one myself. Good for Winter carry. I'm just more accurate with the CZ holster1.JPG 97b.`

I do regret selling some, but to be honest most of the time I dont regret it at all. If a gun doesnt speak to me in any way and I ditch it, what's to regret? I've found that regret for me comes when I had something that was nice but is no longer made or is very hard to get where it used to be common.

I am not a Glock fan. My wife is. I have kept the G22 & G29 and have rid myself of the 17, 19 & 34 but they are still in the family. In hindsight, I did enjoy the 34 but gave it to my son. He recently bought me a CZ Shadow 2 for my birthday so I consider that a fair trade.:)

Okay, we have an ongoing thread about regrets. Here's one for guns you're glad to be rid of.

Just off of the top of my head mine are:

S&W 4006 (It was a .40. The only one I've ever had or will ever have)
S&W 4516 (Feed problems)
Taurus .44 Spl (I don't remember the model, but it confirmed everything I'd heard about Taurus)

I'm sure I'll remember others as the thread progresses.
Ruger 22/45 Lite, probably would have liked it if it worked, sent back to Ruger twice with no luck, jamomatic!

My 'Live and learn' lesson: a S&W Governor.
Because, well... a Governor. (!)

I have a few various 45colt platforms, and the thought of a revolver that does both 45colt AND 45acp really interested me. [The 410 thing didn't interest me at all.] But... after (more than!) a few range trips, I found out that mine was NOT very accurate, indeed. [Not wrongly clocked; and I was/am unable to check bore diameters.] It sat, mostly, for some mythical 'rainy day' where I would just pick it up, and it'd shoot straight and true... but that never happened.

I traded it towards a Model 25... and never looked back. [Shoulda just done THAT from the start.]

Don’t miss any of my Glocks, .380s or my lone Kimber. A Tech9 makes this list. There are quite a few more I don’t miss, but if I was to name one for the ummm factor, it would be the Illinois Duck’s Unlimited 1992 6” Anaconda. If it would’ve been a 4” and didn’t have the scribble, I might have kept it. As it was, I only bought it because it was #13 of 250, and I like the number 13. I also made a profit selling it. I truly don’t miss it.

I'll add "Gen 4 G19" to my List of Guns I Don't Regret Selling. It was a good enough gun, and I really liked it for a while, but I moved on.
I have a Gen 3, and it works. But it's meh to me and I haven't taken it out to the range for a few months. No hate on Glocks; I know they are good guns. But, I'm not really a Glock guy. I keep thinking about selling it, but it's my only fullish size (I know I know it's a 'compact') centerfire handgun for home defense.

That's kind of where I was. Then I figured that I can use one of my Shields for HD about as well as I could my G19.

I've traded a j-22 Jennings for a Grendel p-30. Can't say either of us got much of a deal.

Only gun I've gotten rid of that I didn't miss for a second nor ever want to replace.

I have sold exactly one (1) firearm in my whole 50 years shooting .
I had a Walther PPK in 32 acp stolen from me . I had brass , bullet mould , reloading dies and thought I would replace it with a nice Beratta Tomcat 32 acp . It had one feature I liked ... a pop-up barrel to load it with . You see with that you don't rack the slide to load ... insert loaded magazine , pop up barrel and drop round in chamber ... push barrel back down ...Loaded with no racking the slide ...Neat Right ... But ... You knew there had to be a but... right ! But that sucker , when compared to a Walther PPK , felt like a boat anchor and it's as thick as a brick . I swear it felt as heavy and wide as my Walther P-38 in 9mm Luger ....
One trip to the range and the trigger pull was awful ... I knew the Tomcat was going away .
I believe I traded it in to the same dealer on a used Ruger MKII set up with a Millet SP-1 red dot sight ...
He was Happy , I was Happy , everybody was Happy-Happy !

I haven't sold them yet, but I likely will be doing so soon:
Glock 36 - I wanted a compact .45 acp and this seemed like a good option. It fires fine, though the grip with the finger grooves doesn't fit my hand great. Then I bought my Dad a 1911 and then after shooting his, 5 for myself in short order. I love the feel of the 1911 and have a carry model with laser grips on the way. So it will be bye bye G36.
Glock 43 - I am almost exclusively a long distance target shooter, but I got this to have a small carry gun. With the pinkie grip it just barely fits my hand. I mainly carry it in an ankle holster or in my jeans pockets if going out for the mail or to tend to the yard. I'm on the fence as to whether I'll keep it, but a while back I got a Sig Cross rifle and just love the Sig grip. I've been eyeballing the 365 and when I visit a gun store to check if the Sig grip is as good as I hope it will be the 43 may go on the chopping block.
Nothing wrong with either Glock. They are great shooters, but they don't inspire me to shoot them for fun. I may be listing them for sale here soon. Meanwhile, several more 1911s in .45 acp and 9mm are in route. I'm also looking closely at some recent Hi Power inspired 9mms.

I have two; A Taurus 38 Special that was a S&W Model 10 clone and a Remington Model 742 in 30-06. The Taurus went to a restaurant owner that wanted it to fight off robbers. I don't think he ever shot that gun. The rifle went to a friend of a friend and as of yet no negative comments so I guess he's happy with it. I'm glad I let both go.
