We all like to talk about a gun that we traded or sold and wish we hadn't, but does anyone have a gun that they don't regret letting go? Not necessarily a POS, but just by letting it go we got something else that we really liked and maybe still have. I, for example, traded off a rifle for a couple of revolvers (S&W 686P and Ruger GP100) and I have no regrets. I also sold off a Remington 740 (.308) several years ago and the money topped me off and allowed me to buy one of the new Winchester Model 1895s in 30-06. No regrets to this day. But we only talk about the one that we wish we had held onto. How about the no-regrets gun?.

My partner bought (without seeking my advice!) a S&W Sigma .380 to replace a Browning BDA she sold (ditto!)

She got some schlub to buy it from her almost breaking even. That's ONE POS I don't miss having around.

She eventually got a S&W .38+P 342 for BUG purposes, but in some ways we still miss that BDA; a sweet little piece, if hampered by being a .380. My own smallest CF pistol caliber is .357 Mag, but a small .40 S&W or 9mm autoloader is not out of the question someday.

The one I'm glad is gone??? Over the years, I've sold off ALOT of guns, but the one I haven't had a second thoughts over was the SIG I had. It was a lemon from day one & even after a 10 week trip to the factory it still wasn't right.

I don't have a gun I sold that I don't at least occasionally regret. However, there are several that I usually don't miss too much.

-Ruger 10/22: It was a good gun, but I just never really warmed to it. Occasionally I kind of wish I had it, but only because it seems every "gun guy" is supposed to have a 10/22.

-Ruger P89: Very reliable, but not very accurate. It was my first auto so I sometimes miss it (and might still replace it) for nostalgia reasons, but the gun itself...I like what I got in its place (Charles Daly 1911) far more than I liked it and I wouldn't have bought the Daly if I kept the P89.

-Taurus 605: This gun was a good gun, very reliable, well made, great trigger, reasonably accurate. I like Taurus, and now I like snubs, but .357mag in a snub was just too much and if I'd only shoot .38s out of it I wanted the dedicated .38spl Taurus 85 since it is several ounces lighter. Sometimes I wish I had it, a second snub would be nice, and I didn't get nearly enough for it (usually when I do regret it, I only regret what I let it go for), but I very rarely even think about this gun.

CZ75SA, good gun just never lit my fire, Glock 34 also, another really good pistol. Loved it when it was all I was shooting, I just kinda moved on.

Greeting's All-

Well Checkman I hate to admit it, but my SIGARMS
.40 caliber P229 departed company cuz I never could
get good, consistent groups with the dang thing. :( The
truth being told, my Glock 27 (.40 caliber) out performed
not only the SIG P229; but my Glock 23 as well. :uhoh: :D
I have NEVER looked back in the direction of the SIG P229,
favoring the .45 caliber P220A and the 9m/m P228 instead.

Best Wishes,

One late 90's production S&W Model 19 I ordered came in and was junk with multiple issues, I sent it back and they stepped up and fixed it. I never did feel right about it so I sheetcanned it and never looked back.

Three different 10-22's have come and gone, no matter how I look at it they cost more and shoot worse than a Marlin........

Two 11-87's have come and gone, one was OK but target loads only, the other was junk like most.....

Two Browning BPS have come and gone, nice but not for me.....

Multiple Ruger double action handguns in each of 3 different frame sizes have come and gone, that DA trigger stroke on them is just too bad to put up with. They sure were accurate, to a gun, but I like to shoot a LOT of DA and they are not the gun for it.

That is all I can think of right now that I really never liked or grew to hate.....

Taurus 617 Titanium 357

I really liked the feel of this gun and the fact that it held 7 rounds. But, alas, it was too ammo sensitive and proved itself to be unreliable for CCW.

Kahr P40.

I realize that lemons are rare with that crowd but mine could not be made to function. One trip back to factory and back...

and it still didn't work. Roughly two malfs out of every mag.

Gave up - no prob with customer service - I got the impression they would have continued to jack with it until it worked. Nevertheless, I could never trust it and traded it off for a huge loss.

No probs with the other dozen or so SA's I own - just something "special" about that one arm.

Springfield 1911 V-10 Ultra Compact Stainless. Never could get that thing working right. No regrets.

Ruger Mini-30. Great gun with the FACTORY 5 round mag. Never could find Hi-caps that would work. (I HATE USA MAGS!!)

Les Baer PII. Never even took it home. Owned it for the waiting period and sold it to another customer in the store. Quality and warranty issues from the start. Good riddance to bad rubbish; no regrets whatsoever.

Don't remember much about these (including the full model names  , but they didn't light any fires, and I don't regret selling them:
Beretta Lynx(??) .22
Detonics Combat Master IV (??)
S&W 29 6"

I have NEVER looked back in the direction of the SIG P229, favoring the .45 caliber P220A and the 9m/m P228 instead.

I decided to consolidate calibers and enjoy 9mm and .45ACP more than .40, so between my G19, G36 and 229, guess who got the boot!
Last weekend, traded my 229 .40 towards a P220 (W.German, date stamp 94). Shot the 220 last night. The 229 is a distant memory! While I was at it, I picked up a 225 (W.German, date stamp 84) as well! :D

No regrets!

I just sold my Beretta Bobcat to a co-worker a few days ago and so far I don't miss it. I'd had it a couple of years and only put 200 rounds though it.

I always kinda wanted a small .22 pocket gun and this one was .25 acp, but I had the money and the price was good so I bought it at a gun show - impulse buy one could say.

I carried it in the summer months mainly and my wife put a few rounds through it, but neither of us got too excited about the gun. The cash I got for it can now be put to good use elsewhere.

I got rid of a mini-14 a few years back. It wasn't a bad rifle, just frustrated with availability/reliability of high cap mags for it.

Accuracy also left something to be desired. Used the money from the sale and saved some more and bought my Armalite M15A4 carbine and never looked back. :)

Glock 35... woefully inaccurate. Barrel swap fixed the problem, but never warmed up to it. Less accurate and crappier trigger than the Glock 23 I had, go figure.

Glock 36... worked fine, but I never could hit anything with it for some reason.

(Note: I had a Glock 23 and Glock 20C that were nice)

Para-Ordnance P14-45. POS, pure and simple.

Kel-Tec P32. Broke before I could take it to the range.

SigSauer P228... worked great, but it didn't really appeal to me.

Several, over the years

Back in the 1960s and early 70s, I did a lot of gun trading - -I'd just get one and mess with it and then swap it off or sell it. Sometimes, I'd two to four guns from an individual, just to obtain one I wanted.

Ones I was particularly pleased to see go away:
Couple of cheap .25 autos
two .22 knock offs of Remington double derringer
Hawes Western Marshal .357 single action
Mauser 1910 pocket pistol

A few years ago, I bought a Firestar 9mm from a young officer hurting for cash. Fired, but near-new in box with papers and spare mag. It was compact, but just too heavy for caliber, with too many sharp corners. I didn't even like it for bedside table use. At a Dallas Gun Show, a dealer allowed me a higher trade-in than what I'd given for it, against a Browning .40 High Power, which I really wanted. Good deal for both sides. I still have the BHP.

Best,
Johnny

For me it was my 10/22. It was my 1 rifle. Great gun and I liked it but it wasn't that intersting to shoot as I matured. I wanted bigger and farther reaching guns. Sold it to my Brother. I had the Buttler Creek folding stock and four 30 round magazines. My brother broke 2 of them. Ignorantly I threw them out instead of having them replaced by the factory. They go for $75 right now :banghead:

He still has it, he hacked off the barrel a bit which ruined the accuracy since he had no way to re-crown it. I'm getting him a Buttler Creek Carbon Fiber Tension barrel for it for Christmas. Hopefully he won't feel the need to hack it down. It's the perfect gun for my Brother because he won't ever mature ;)

I'll probably replace it this spring with a EAA Biathlon Basic

The list is long and distinguished though heavy with Rugers.
Mini-14, KP-95, KP-89, Hawkeye, Bisley(.357),Super Blackhawk, Virginian Dragoon(.44),Marlin 1894(.44), 1911s(Colt(3), SA(3), Kimber(1)), 586, 686(x2),Python, XD, CZ75B, G34, the list goes on.
All of them did exactly what they were supposed to do, all were reliable, but I never really gelled with any of them. There others that I roo the day I let them go, but that's another thread.

Sold and never looked back: Glock 17, Beretta 92, Taurus PT92, CZ 75, Walther PPK, Keltec P11, Colt Anaconda and Ruger Mini 14. There was nothing really wrong with each of them ( except the Taurus) but nothing was exciting either.

Remington 7400 carbine in 30-06, what a POS. I almost cried I was so happy to get rid of it.

Taurus PT 92. Total POS Jam-O-Matic.
S&W Model 29. Key holer.
S&W Model 59. Jam-O-Matic.
Mossberg 500 12 ga. Jam-o-matic.

Guns I have sold or traded off and not regretted it

(Except for losing money on them)

Guns that were a total POS:
Taurus PT945
Para-Ordnance P12-45

Guns I wanted to like but couldn't:
Glock 30
S&W M66, 2.5" bbl
S&W M640-1 .357 Magnum

I had a Ruger 10/22 that I traded in for a stainless semi-auto Marlin .22LR - that I love. I never liked that 10/22. I disliked every single aspect of it.

I also had a Kel-Tec P11 and a P40 - both of which were sold, and I don't regret that, either. However, I have owned two P32s - and still own one, and love it. In fact, I have a P-3AT on layaway right now.

There are others, but I can't think of them right now. Let's just say that I do regret selling *most* of the guns I've sold.

Yeah there are a few guns I sold that I don't regret. But that is a couple out of many. I regret selling all the rest, some a lot.
I sold two .30-06 rifles within the last couple years. One of them was given to me in partial payment of a debt, so I didn't really want it to begin with. The other was a Remington 7400. It wasn't a bad rifle. I shot a nice mule deer with it just prior to selling it. I just didn't see the point in it since I already own two good .30-06 bolt rifles and one semi-auto in .30-06 (an M1) so I don't regret selling those two.
I had two single action revolvers that were semi-POS. One was a Ruger Single Six. It had been shot to death. I bought it third or fourth hand and shot the crap out of it for years. I sent it to Ruger once and had it worked on by two local gunsmiths over the time I had it. I sold it and bought another one. The other one was a SAA clone. I forget now what the deal was with it, but I sold it and never looked back.

One thing they all have in common is that I didn't sell any of them for the money. I simply didn't want them.
