Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill... NC in it's entirety

Does anyone know of an outdoor range (that doesn't charge ungodly amounts of money) around Wake county? Anything within an 45min-1hour of Raleigh? Got a bunch of silver tip 7.62x54 that I can't take to the indoor range I go to...

Keller: Those were the first two I saw, and unfortunately I can't afford to go to either :p

NC Shooter: Does Trigger Time have a range where someone can just show up, pay, and shoot? Also, does 'The Range' have the same? The website for 'The Range' wasn't very user-friendly or informative...

Fletcher, I think on both, the best thing to do would be to Email them and ask.

Fletcher,
You may want to try RANGE-1 out in Lillington. Pistol range and 100yd rifle plus a side bay for training, etc...

Very nice people out there.

$15 for all day

Directions From Raleigh

Come down 401 South or 55 East towards Fuquay-Varina. Proceed through Fuquay-Varina and stay on 401 South to Lillington. When you see a large Chevrolet on the right and the MacDonalds on the left, you will need to turn RIGHT at that light to stay on 401/210. Proceed THROUGH Lillington on 401/210. At the end of town there is a Burger King. Bear RIGHT at the Burger King and get on 210 South. Proceed about 3 miles and look for "Harmony Baptist Church" on the RIGHT. About 0.3 miles after the church, you will see a tobacco shed on the right at LOOP ROAD. Turn RIGHT onto LOOP ROAD, proceed 1 mile. The range is on your LEFT. There is a sign for the range.

Thanks - It looks like a good place. I'll let the other two people in my 'group' know and head out there sometime soon.

I just went out to Range-1 on Saturday, it was my second time there, the first was over two years ago, but I got sick of shooting indoors and wanted to take my Makarov and my CZ to an outdoor place. From Raleigh it takes about a little less than an hour to get there, but it's a very pleasant drive, through downtown Fuquay-Varina and Lillington and lots of rural land along 55 and 401.

They have a pretty nice setup, a friendly range. The only thing is that they use wooden target frames, and if you hit the frame with a shot they charge you 1$ extra for each hole in the frame. I didn't know that, so I stuck one of the "exploding" yellow targets in the top right corner of my target so I'd have another target to shoot at once the main target was full of holes, but I stuck it too close to the edge and clipped the frame with four shots. Well next time I'll know to keep everything in the center.

Is anyone still interested in getting a group shoot together in the Triangle Area? I shoot at a variety of places, I've been a PDHSC a bit lately since Davi's new range isn't open yet. I usually go to Davi's because it's close to work so I'll stop in and squeeze off a box of ammo after work or sometimes on lunch.

But for a pretty casual atmosphere (not casual about safety of course, but casual socially) I'd recommend Range-1 for the location. It's a decent outdoor facility in a good setting, the range fee is $15 for unlimited time, but perhaps I could negotiate a group deal if we have enough people interested. It's a bit of a drive but not a difficult one, we could even meet somewhere in the Triangle and drive to the range together. Being relatively new to shooting myself, I'd love to get together and meet some other enthusiasts from the Triangle area.

I think I'm gonna see if my roommate wants to head over to PDHSC this afternoon and burn some ammo to commemorate the end of the AWB. Seems like as good a reason as any. So if anyone else wants to head over there, you might see me. I'll be wearing my olive "Peace Through Superior Firepower" T-shirt.

And although I've recently sold my .22, leaving me with the BPS and the P94, I'd still love to have a get-together sometime. Unfortunately, I'm no longer in touch at all with my friend at DPRC. :(

I was just over at PDHSC picking up a new gunbelt. I'll be heading back over there on Friday, probably from noon to 2:30-3 O'clockish if anyone wants to meet up then.

Yeah, I think if we talk to Pete over at Range-1 we could definately organize a group get together. I'll probably be going out there this Sunday, if not I'll be at PDHSC.

PS Has anyone seen any Glock hicaps in the Triangle area yet? I need to pick up a few for my G23...

Not sure yet. Trying to see how many of my friends are going first. Just ordered some ammo from ammoman (7.62x39) - hopefully it can get here by then. If not, I'll still have enough anyways :p After I find out who on my end is going and such, I'll let you all know.

Hoping Ivan won't be dumping rain on us :(

Also, that is $15 per day, right? And do they require a range orientation of any sort? I know PDHSC and Wake County Range both do, but they're both indoor.

Perhaps we can arrange a larger get-together around Thanksgiving or sometime a couple months away so we all can keep that day available. It would be great to meet everyone.

Sounds good. However, Thanksgiving weekend won't work for me- I'll be in Chattanooga being the best man at my brother's wedding.

Bring on those bridesmaids! :D

Don't get too excited yet :(

Dang it. I hadn't seen the weather. Oh well, if it's raining I'll probably go to PDHSC on Sunday. Need to see if they have any high caps anyway.:D

If it clears up, will anyone who is going happen to own any sort of rifle with a Jewell trigger that you'd be willing to bring?
