I just went out to Range-1 on Saturday, it was my second time there, the first was over two years ago, but I got sick of shooting indoors and wanted to take my Makarov and my CZ to an outdoor place. From Raleigh it takes about a little less than an hour to get there, but it's a very pleasant drive, through downtown Fuquay-Varina and Lillington and lots of rural land along 55 and 401.
They have a pretty nice setup, a friendly range. The only thing is that they use wooden target frames, and if you hit the frame with a shot they charge you 1$ extra for each hole in the frame. I didn't know that, so I stuck one of the "exploding" yellow targets in the top right corner of my target so I'd have another target to shoot at once the main target was full of holes, but I stuck it too close to the edge and clipped the frame with four shots. Well next time I'll know to keep everything in the center.
Is anyone still interested in getting a group shoot together in the Triangle Area? I shoot at a variety of places, I've been a PDHSC a bit lately since Davi's new range isn't open yet. I usually go to Davi's because it's close to work so I'll stop in and squeeze off a box of ammo after work or sometimes on lunch.
But for a pretty casual atmosphere (not casual about safety of course, but casual socially) I'd recommend Range-1 for the location. It's a decent outdoor facility in a good setting, the range fee is $15 for unlimited time, but perhaps I could negotiate a group deal if we have enough people interested. It's a bit of a drive but not a difficult one, we could even meet somewhere in the Triangle and drive to the range together. Being relatively new to shooting myself, I'd love to get together and meet some other enthusiasts from the Triangle area.
