Recently picked up a 365 TacPac, and absolutely love the thing for carry.

Grabbed a new holster (the factory supplied one isn't exactly great) and I've been carrying it ever since.

One complaint about it (maybe more about me, than the gun itself) though. With the short grip and the 12rd extended magazines, they don't drop free because they run into the heel of my palm. So I need to drastically change my grip, or rip them out with my free hand.

Since the whole package with the 12rd extended mags is the same as the 365X, I'm considering getting a 365X frame and hoping it'll help alleviate my issue with reloads.

I know swapping the grip module is easy, and I'm not concerned about it, but what about magazines? Can I simply change base plates to a flat one, or is the mag body itself different. Will I need entirely new magazines? Or is the body the same, just the baseplate different?

You're correct, grip swap is trivially easy. Mags are identical with the exception of the baseplate. You can order them from Sig, there are also some nice aftermarket ones (I like the Tactical Development ones with the slightly-extended ledge), and that swap is also trivially easy.

I too recently bought a P365 and I like it. Like you, I noticed that the mags don't drop free because my palm is holding them in. I tried changing my grip, but by the time I do that, I may as well just pull it out with the other hand.

I also looked into making a new gun out of it, but with the cost of the parts to do that, it makes more sense to just buy another gun, even if it's a Sig P365X. The spare mags are $50 ea., so you also get $100 worth of mags with the new gun that will work on both of them.

I decided to just leave it alone with its two supplied mags. I doubt if I'd need a 2nd mag for it, much less a 3rd or more. If I want a bigger 9 mm, I'll just shoot my Hi-Power. I think I'll put the money into a new .45 instead of pouring more into the carry gun.

The SIG spare 12 round magazines have a slide-on adapter for use with the 10 round frame.
So, your 10 rounders will not work, but all the 12s ought to be similar.

Prefect, because all I have are 12rd mags. The TacPac came with 3x 12rd mags.

So all I need to do is swap the grip frame and the magazine baseplates, and I'll have a (sorta) 365X it sounds like.

That's good news, because I was dreading having to buy more Sig mags.

365 slide on a 365XL frame is a 365X, so it won't really be a "sorta."

Check close on the 12 round mags--I know from having bought the SIG after-market ones, the adapter for the 10 round frame is a slide-on affair. But, I don't know that they all are (it does scan daft to make different kinds, though).

Dosen't the *real* 365X have a flat face trigger I thought?

Correct. And it’s cut for an optic as well. You were right to begin with to say “sorta”, though it is close.

Oh, I knew there was something else I was forgetting!

Now I just have to decide if I want to try and pick up a Sig 365X frame, a Wilson Combat one, or something else. I know there's a few options out there.

Buy the Wilson grip frame. Shape and texture is a huge improvement over the Sig X frame.

Don’t be disappointed when your hands are still too large to let the mags drop free.

PS- With the Maguts floor plates, the 12 round magazines will hold 14 rounds. My mags with the Maguts have been reliable, so far.

Culper Precision will mill your slide for an RDS and Ceracoat it for (if I recall) about $150. I had it done to mine and the work and customer service was top notch.

Unless you want the optics cut, I'd recommend just swapping the grip module. If you want a flat trigger, MGW sells them for $47.52. If you are mechanically inclined it's an easy swap.

Left: P365 12 rd 2-piece floorplate assembly............. Right: P365 XL flat floorplate. Same magazine shell.

And yes, it is much easier to eject and insert the 12 rd P365 XL magazines than the 12 rd P365 magazines.

If you ever want to use the P365 grip module again and carry with a 10 rd magazine and carry 12 rd backup magazines, instead of swapping the floorplates, you can modify the P365 12 rd adapter rings by sanding them and then just slip the adapter rings over the 12 rd XL magazines when the need arises.

Instead of buying 12 rd XL magazine floorplates for about $5.00 each, you might want to consider the MagGuts 14 rd Magazine Conversion kit that comes with it's own floorplate.

FYI, the Sig Tac Pac holster has a HORRIBLE trigger guard retention system. It has a very limited range of retention adjustment. Once you reach the maximum amount of retention, tightening the adjustment bolt any further doesn't increase the retention any further and I think that it actually prevents the pistol from being fully inserted and reduces the amount of retention. At ANY retention setting, inverting the holster and giving it a light shake will cause the pistol to fall out of the holster. I'm using this holster attached inside my fanny pack, but I had to add a spring to the holster to increase the retention to a sufficient amount.

I much prefer the Wilson frame, but the 365 stock frame has always felt too small for my hands, regular or XL.
