I spent a lot of time in the last couple of weeks @ my lgs, handling four of the more popular "micro-compact", 9mm pistols (the Springfield Armory Hellcat, the Ruger MAX 9, the S&W Plus and the SIG 365 XL) and ended up going with the SIG. Hard choice, as each of them have their advantages, but the SIG felt best in my hand. I wasn't happy with the prices ($599.99 for the pistol and $50.00 each for an extra 12 round mag and a 15 round extended mag) but we live in a time when you may never have the opportunity at any price to buy these products again.

Though I like most everything about this pistol, I learned that I have a problem of sorts that I've never heard anybody else complain about with it: accessing the magazine catch is difficult for me to do without altering my grip more than I want to. And when I do get the mag to drop, sometimes the fleshy underside of my XL mitt keeps it from falling free. On the plus side, it's unlikely that I will ever experience an inadvertent mag dump.

I'm looking forward to doing some shooting with this little SIG.

I have the regular 365 which fits my hand like a glove with the 12 round mag; my wife tried it and liked it so much I got her one for Christmas; this was before the XL came out

Great choice. I hope you enjoy the XL as much as the rest of us here who made the plunge. To me, it's a little pistol that shoots like a full-size pistol, but so light and compact, it makes a great carry piece. You shouldn't be disappointed with the triggers and the sights, either.

That pretty much comes with the territory for "micro-compacts," at least in my experience.

I think you'll like it. After shooting a 365 with both the regular and extended mags, I ended up putting mine in a 365XL frame.

I thought I would shoot my P365 better with the 12 round mag than the 10 round mag, but I don’t really, kind of surprised me really. I carry it with the 10.

I would love to try out an XL.

Nice! I am right there with you, if I were buying one of those 4-5, it’d probably be the 365XL.

I chose the Glock 48, but given the choices you were faced with I would have made the same choice. I was in between the Glock 48 and the Sig P365xl right when they both came out but with the Shield Arms magazines on the horizon I went that route, and I shoot Glocks well and trust them, so it was an easy choice for me.

I think that size (p365xl and G48) slide has enough advantages that they make for about the perfect CCW.

I'm sure you will like it, these thin modeled stack and a half's are really revolutionizing carry, it will be really hard to make much improvement on carry weapons after these bunch are in the market.

Well done! I like the P365. I was seriously considering getting one with my BidenBucks. I shot a mag through one a couple years back and liked it. I'm a Sig factory trained armorer as well and appreciate the P320 and P365 for their makeup. I also like the G48 and how it fits my tiny toddler-like hands.

I looked up the G48 and for $358 (blue label) vs. what sig wanted for the P365 I went Glock. I got a Shield mag off a guy from church who sells them and I am quite pleased with the G48.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm now on the search for a good quality, owb, leather holster (lined) with a thumb-break retention strap ("pancake" style). I found one fitting this description for my CZ 75 Compact pistol from the High Noon holster company (and like it a lot) but they apparently don't make an equivalent model for the 365 XL. Suggestions welcome.

Since you've tried them, which one has the best trigger?

I'm leaning in this order for my purchase...

SIG XL (looks really slick overall)
Shield Plus (I have a .45 Shield, and it is really solid)
Ruger (I've never been disappointed with anything from Ruger yet, and it comes with a slide cut, and it is the cheapest!)

Not interested in the Hellcat at the moment. (Unrelated, but does anyone else think, "Hellcat" goes best with something with a big radial engine?)

But! I want the one with the best trigger. All of the choices really check all the boxes that I want.

I have the P365, which has a different trigger than the XL. My LGS has a slew of P365s in, but can't keep the XL on the shelf. They also have the Ruger, Shield Plus, and the Hellcat in stock. But never the P365XL.

I can say that I have compared them all and the absolute best trigger is the one on the Shield Plus. It has a target trigger in a defensive pistol.

It is almost too light. Never thought I'd say that, since I like around a 4 lb trigger. But, a lot of guys are finding their Shield has a measured 3 lb trigger, and that could be disastrous in a carry weapon.

May have to replace the term "Glock leg" with "Shield Plus leg" in the near future.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of any trigger pull on all of the striker-fired pistols I've ever tried and I especially hate Glock triggers (but then, I'm sort of a trigger "snob" I guess; having spent most of my time behind the triggers of 1911 pistols and the single-action pulls of classic da target revolvers). But when comparing the triggers of the four pistols, I preferred the SIG slightly over the others, due mainly as to how light the pull is (but it still has plenty of objectionable creep and "sponginess"). I do insist on having a manual safety (or at the very least, a grip safety, ala Springfield XD pistols) on any striker-fired pistol I might carry.

Actually, the trigger pulls of the pistols were not a big determining factor for me when choosing one (they were all mediocre in my estimation). Round capacity was also a non factor; all of them carried plenty enough for me. I would have bought the Ruger, solely due to it being a hundred bucks cheaper than the SIG, but the shop didn't have any in stock. I do much prefer how well the SIG feels in my hand and that is an overriding factor, albeit an entirely subjective one, imo. Of the four pistols, the Hellcat handled worst for me.

I really think you have to handle all of them before deciding. There's not a bad one among them and lots of people are going to rightfully disagree with my take on which pistol handles "best".

I’ve never bought another pistol that I completely adopted so quickly...one outing and I was hooked!! I carry mine in a Vedder’s LightTuck AIWB holster and the gun virtually disappears!

Depending the exact issue you have with the mag release, there is an extended mag release available from Armory Craft:

Enjoy your new acquisition!!

Yes, I also willingly admit that I am a trigger snob. Trigger weight is pretty much irrelevant to me, it is the trigger pull length that I am concerned with. Sponginess is not something I am fond of. I'm afraid there are no 1911 triggers on any trending "micro-compact" pistols, but I'd like to get as close as I can.

Irrelevant contextually, but I hope my new SIG works better than the fancy plastic case it came in. Unless exercising extreme care, you can't open or close the box without the latches falling off. Strange.

Hah! That's exactly what happened to me the first time I opened the case. It took me a few times to get the hang of it. Really poor design, although I'm pretty sure SIG farms that work out.
