Anyone else have a problem getting all 10 cartridges in the 10 round 1911 9mm magazines? My OEM Rock Island 10 round magazine refuses to let the 10 th round load, in fact it doesn’t particularly like the 9th round either. My Brownell’s brand magazines work pretty well.

I loaded 10 in my, last one need a double thumb

I had similar issue with newer generations of Glock magazines with stiffer springs, really hard to load the last round.

So I kept the magazines loaded with as many rounds as I could and over time, new spring tension relaxed and I was able to load last round easier.

If you want to load the last round right now, you can use manual magazine loader/helper tools.

And if you simply cannot load the last round, can always contact Mec-Gar customer service for replacement.

I have a bunch of MecGar's, both 9 and 10 rounders. I normally load them all with an Up Lula before going to the range, and that tends to take their load off of my thumb and you don't notice things as much.

Some of my 9-rounders want to bind up at around 3 rounds and if you arent using the loader, and its very hard to get past that. The 10 rounders have been fine.

Between the two, the 10 rounders are a different and better design than the 9 rounders and have been less trouble. Some of the 9 rounders like to puke live rounds out of the guns with the empties as they cycle. Not all the time, but enough to be annoying.

Yes, I’ve used/tried my magazine loader it doesn’t really have the spunk to get it loaded either. As I recall yesterday I decided torpedoes be damned I was going to get that last round in, that was a chore. The gun wouldn’t feed the first 2 rounds, 8 on down fed fine. Maybe I’ll load up as many as I can get and leave it sit a while and see what happens. Migh eventually cut a coil off the bottom. The Brownell’s spring is not nearly as stiff and is a couple coils shorter and the Mec-Gar has shorter coils in upper 1/2 or so of the spring. Maybe I just got lucky. I suppose a line to Mec-Gar would be in order. I just thought someone here had a magic trick that would be a quick fix. Thanks for the replies and recommendations.

This will usually correct the problem.

However, since everybody has double stack experience these days, and most don't understand single column mags, I often post this...

No, sounds like it maybe time to call Mec-Gar customer service. If you can't load a new magazine with manual magazine loader/helper, something doesn't sound right. First two rounds not feeding is likely due to too much spring tension and binding the rounds from being released from the follower/lips (Who knows, maybe the spring was flipped/installed backwards during assembly?).

Can you remove the base to see if spring was installed correctly?

Do you just have one magazine with this issue or have other Mec-Gar 1911 magazines?

Yes, I took the magazine apart, appeared to be installed correctly. This is the only Mec-Gar magazine I have that is a 10 rnd, 9mm,1911. The other 2 magazines I have are Brownell’s labeled 10 round. They have a very noticeable difference in spring pressure, I’m guessing the Mec-Gar spring is the problem.

What is this Up Lula 1911 mag adapter of which you speak? :)

I just the same Lula I use for all my other mags.

Yeah, you don't need the adapter, but it really improves the experience with single stack mags.

I have a couple of MecGar 10x9mm and don't think they are harder to load than other brands.
But then I use an UpLula or other device for about all automatics.
The good old true 1911 7x.45 is the easiest loading magazine I know of.

Talk to MecGar. Their mags are normally as certain as gravity. See what they have to say.
The 365 mags convinced me to use an UpLula for about everything.

No problems loading my MecGar 1911 9mm mags, last round is tight but no worse than any of my other 1911 9mm mags.
I also use the UpLula with the single stack adaptor, does make that last round so much easier to load.

My rule of thumb is not to force the last round, if you had to jam it in, it probably won't come out under normal use. Either give it some break in time, send it back, or trash it.

I've had no issues with my MecGars and I like the little notch they cut up front as a kind of guide. If you decide to upgrade, hard to beat Chip McCormicks or Wilson Combat for top quality mags. I run both of thise in 9mm & .45acp.
