my friend and i were talking about guns like these and we werent really sure what they are.

when i think of a rifle i think of something you need both hands to hold and fire yet these guns you could fire with one hand.

but theyre bigger than handguns and dont really have the same shape as revolvers and autoloaders.

so if you had to put them in a category, what would that be?

and dont say assault weapon :neener:

Macs and Uzis, if full auto, are considered submachineguns. If semi auto only, they can be pistols or rifles (16" barrel and with buttstock).

A Tec, regardless of configuration, is usually considered a turd.

Quoted for truth.

... in full auto: type 3, "destructive devices".
In full auto: "machineguns" not DDs.

My semi-auto Uzi is considered a rifle.

My semi-auto Tec-9 is considered a handgun.

My full-auto M11 (aka MAC) is considered a machinegun.

No. A "destructive device" is a gun with a bore of greater than a half-inch, or a projectile having more than a quarter ounce of explosives.

DD

What materials are used for the explosive. Also how is it encased in a projectile? C4 or newer technology packed into a hollow point cavity?

The Uzi and Mac, if fitted with folding stocks would probably be considered sub-machine guns. Some Uzi's, like the micro uzi along with the Tec-9 (regardless of configuration) I believe would be classified as machine pistols.

not unlike those "laquered horse turds" sold at gift shops with which tourists pay dearly for as a memento of their visit.

What do the federal laws say regarding "Destructive Devices" and "Machine Guns"? Do you require a license for them, is there registration, etc?

Essentially (in the US) you pay a one-time $200 transfer fee to the government for each weapon and undergo a background check to purchase one. It's a bit more complicated, but that's the basics.

Here in NV, I found a guy selling a full size FA Uzi, and he came over and showed it to me. NIB - he shoots a MP5 and bought this on a group deal and never shot it. He left with a check for $5500 and the gun. :)

Next I filled out the paperwork, got passport pics taken and took it all to the Fingerprint Bureau to get fingerprint cards and left the paperwork to be signed by the Chief of Police. The paperwork was mailed back to me and at that point I could've sent it in, but.....

I decided I wanted a supressor and ordered one. I didn't realize it would take a while to come in and foolishly waited to send in the UZI paperwork until I got this done. Finally it came in, got that paperwork signed off and all the papers and $400 in taxes got sent in 6 weeks ago. :)

Now you just wait, and wait, and wait. :D

I definitely want to come to that - hopefully I'll have the gun by then!

If you guys need help with that I'm available! :)
