How about this gem of humanity?

Clerk Refuses to Call Police After Robbery

GARY, Ind. -- A woman who was robbed at knifepoint while pumping gas into her church's van couldn't believe it when the gas station attendant refused to call police for help.

"I ran, of course, to the nearest place," Gary resident Rosetta Heffner said, recounting Sunday's robbery.

Her request to call 911 was met with silence from the other side of the Citgo station's counter.

She tried again.

The clerk's response?

"Use your cell phone."

Heffner couldn't believe it.

"I thought it would be a safe haven, anything could have happened, and he told me to use my cell phone," Heffner told the Post-Tribune of Merrillville.

The gas station's manager said he was sorry about the robbery, but clerks at the station do not make emergency calls from the front counter, fearing retaliation for criminals.

"We have to be careful," he said. "If we call, then there are problems. They can hear. So we use the back phone. We are always helpful to the customer, but we have to protect ourselves."

Members of the Moving Spirit Church, which Heffner attends, regularly use the gas station to refill the church's vehicles.

At least they used to.

Member Latrell Peterson said the church will take its business elsewhere.

"We have eight vans and three buses rolling every day, but we don't go there now," Peterson said.

Cowards! I say eff them and their company.

Boycott Citgo until they change their policy.

Disgusting. Regardless of what the manager's "policy" is and no matter how clever the rationale it does not excuse the cowardly actions of an individual. That attendent should have stepped up and done the right thing. Just plain cowardly.

Lady should of had a gun and shot the bastard.

I can understand and appreciate the Clerk's posititon.

I was at mom's while she was gone, witnessed a situation, called police on a direct line and met the officers away from mom's house/neighborhood. BGs do retalitate, I did not want my mom getting hurt or dead.

So the clerk winds up hurt or dead later on helping the Church Lady.

Don't know the Laws in the stories location, here one is NOT allowed CCW in Church. BGs here know this, so prey on the churches, and church folks getting to and from church - makes perfect sense to me if I were a BG.

Hence the reason
1) I suggest folks here work on changing laws restricting their freedoms, like CCW in churches, hospitals and such.

2) When my neice was attacked by a dog, her daddy, the deacon, the one I bought and paid for his gun, his training, his CCW license - and whom did NOT get a CCW, was upset about the 911 call - suggested he practice praying his ass off harder - obviously he did not pray hard enough.

Nope, sorry not going to blame the clerk, or 911. The lady should of taken some responsiblities for herself. She should of had a gun, training, and been working on changing no CCW in her church if they have one. If that church has a anti-gun slant...

"Where two or three are gathered" - don't mean it has to be a gaudy building with the need to feed ego decor.

No instead the church folks will not only boycott the gas station - have a series of sermons on the evil of knives and guns are bad so more laws needed.

Probably send missonaries out to indoctrinate the BGs with knives...pray harder and depend more on .law to overcome.

Here comes the collection plate , Sister Susie peed her Flour sack panties...lets all feel sorryfor her and get her a new pair - and we don't want to hear coins in the plate either.

One can be Prey - One can be Prayed over at a funeral.
What do you prefer? What are going to do?

FWIW I have shot at a old wooden church pew. All my rounds penetrated so I would give second thought to hiding behind a pew...

Yep. The nice church lady should've had a gun. SHe should've had a cell phone, back-up gun, pepper spray, self-opening knife, cuffs, Surefire, and good situational awareness, too. Maybe she did have one (or all) of the aforementioned items, and was too panicky to use them. Maybe she was just a nice, little, old church lady who grew up in an era where you could trust your neighbor to do the right thing, and had none of them. We don't know from that story. Even if she did have her own phone, we don't know that she knows the exact street address of "the gas station down the street... You know... The one where we fill up all our vans..."

One thing we do know, is that the more time that lapses between incident ane report, the more time the BG's have to scram. Another thing we know is that when we let the BG's control our actions, especially to the extent of reporting their crimes, then they win. Twice. They won the first time in being successful at their trade. They won the second time by ensuring that nobody would report them.

I've been in that clerk's shoes, and never had the slightest inclination to not do the right thing. I've been retaliated against, too... it's not fun. But the last thing we do know for sure...

All it takes for the Bad Guys to win, is that the Good Guys do nothing. And that's just not in me.

The socialists are turning this country into a nation of cowards. We are told not to defend ourselves, not to rely on ourselve, and not be self-sufficient. These qualities are discouraged by the government and organized religion and laughed at by the Hollywood elites.

When I was in college I worked nights at a convenience store and I recall the night a gang of five thugs attacked two men who had just left the store. It didn't appear to be a robbery, just a physical assault for reasons unknown to me. I went out to the parking lot with my 1911 and convinced the gang-bangers that they should ply their trade elsewhere. My only regret is that none of them took a step towards me as I covered them with the .45 as I would have surely enjoyed blowing them all to Hell. My experience with criminals is that they wilt in the face of armed resistance, and these scumbags were no different. They couldn't run away fast enough once it registered in their tiny little brains that they were staring down the barrel of a gun.

I have absolutely no use for criminals and I feel every decent person should be armed, and should kill criminals at every opportunity. It just brightens up your wjole day to know that you've made the world a better place by jacking some festering sore on humanity.

"I thought it would be a safe haven, anything could have happened, and he told me to use my cell phone," Heffner told the Post-Tribune of Merrillville.

I must have missed the memo. When was it announced that Citgo gas stations should be considered as a safe haven in times of an emergency?

Me, I am a blame the victim kind of person on stuff like this. Why are we upset with Citgo when a sheeple who was not willing to do a darned thing to help herself is denied help from Citgo. Why didn't she have her own cell phone? Why didn't she know anything about self defense? Where was her situational awareness? Why did she run to Citgo as a safe haven AFTER she was robbed? Smart money would have been to get into the van.

I would lay big money that the female vic won't be enrolled in any self defense courses anytime soon, travel with a companion when gassing up the church vehicles, won't be armed, and won't get a cell phone. She will spend her days yammering about how she didn't get any help, how she was a victim, how nothing that went wrong was her fault.

The clerk is no worse than this woman. He may not have done anything after the robbery to help the woman, but she sure as hell didn't do anything before the robbery. If you boycott Citgo then you need to boycott church. After all, this woman has now shown clearly that church vehicles and their drivers are easy marks because they don't take preventative action, they don't fight back, and afterwards they run away crying.

We shouldn't boycott Citgo because of this incident. We should boycott Citgo because it's Hugo Chavez's pet oil company.

Crikey. I can't believe what I'm reading here.

THEORY: everyone should carry and defend his/her self.
REALITY: everyone doesn't

In theory, there's no difference between theory and reality. In reality, there is.

"Shooting the bastard" isn't always an option. I don't care what's happening to me, I'm not firing a .357 mag next to a gas pump. The muzzle flash would be nothing compared to the boom of the gas pump igniting with all the fumes about.

Perhaps it's just the old Boy Scout in me that's ready to "help other people at all times." Bottom line: Someone needed help and a back was turned in her direction. What if she had just been raped? Would you still turn your back? Maybe her cell phone didn't have signal or the battery was dead. (I guess she needs to revert to one of the old bag-phones that are 3 watts instead of 1/4 watt to insure she has signal and run it directly from the car battery?)

At some point in our lives, we're all going to _need_ help. We shouldn't, but again that's the difference between theory and reality. Do you want a back turned on you in your time of need? I don't. If my help is needed, I'll give it.

In some places it is specifically illegal to carry in Church??? What in the world is any level Govt. doing deciding what can/can't be done in a private Church? Here's one case of separation of Church/State I think applies.

It's the BGs fault for attacking the church women.

It's the church womens fault for not being able to defend herslef.

It's the clerks fault for not dialing 911.

And finally, it's the managers fault for making the most idiodic rule i've ever heard of.

People, c'mon, seriously.

When did it get too hard to stop and help the common man? I suppose it's because they might be inconvienced for a short time. Or because it might cost them somthing, or (Gasp) they may have to fight for someone else or put themselves at risk for a perfect stranger. I suppose thats why no one does it these days.

All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. Or maybe these days there is no such thing as a good man. Maybe there is only a handful left scattered about the country running themselves ragged trying to wake the rest of the world up.

Me, if i would have been there i can only speculate what i would have done. Most likley i would have simply walked over and thumped the thug senless for trying to prey on an unarmed women. Then following that i would have to jerk the clerk over the counter and use his phone to dial 911 myself if he wouldnt do it. The manager would get pissed probably so i would have to have words with him too.

Trouble? sure, lots of it too. But i'd do it anyway just for the reasons mentioned above, it'd be the right thing to do. I could live with doing anything less than the right thing.

We can all say that the women should have taken care of herself but she shouldnt have to, although im sure she's capable of it. Thats what the men are for, at least thats how i was taught, maybe im just old fashioned at the ripe old age of 23.

Bravo!

So if the gas station got robbed, would the clerk have called 911? If he didn't, how long do you think he would have kept his job after the manager found that his store was held up?

Wonder if a customer had a heart attack while pumping gas, the clerk would have called 911.

This story is so sad I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry. I cannot believe any person with even a minor amount of concern about their fellow man would let their actions be driven by silly-azz rules. I would have immediately called 911 for the lady and then called the boss and told him what I had just done. Then I would have told him to put his job where the sun don't shine.
