For those that think all criminals are inefficient with a gun, check out the FBI report.

This is truly frightening. Especially considering that us law-abiding citizens can't just go around practicing the "shoot first" philosophy.

I feel really bad for the clerk that got shot. I worry about my wife a lot. She only started shooting about 1 year ago and she already carries concealed. I hope her gun is never used against her... I hope she can out-shoot one of these experienced criminals. We train a lot (every weekend)... but I still worry.

I think I'll side with Massad on this one! Pilgrim's story shows why you should train like you'd fight and fight like you train!
Things got more interesting when Safariland introduced their SSIII retention holster. It required three actions to draw the pistol. One - unsnap the thumb break strap. Two - press a tab behind the trigger guard with the middle finger. Three - rock the pistol forward out of the holster. If one drew straight up, the pistol would hang up in the holster.

When we introduced the 'Teuller Drill' - to see how fast the deputies could draw against a simulated knife attack - we had more than one deputy try to pull his holster, belt, and pants over his head because he couldn't get his pistol clear of the SSIII holster. Again, not enough practice with the new piece of equipment.

That is a sad tale...it oddly reminds me of a happier (almost humorous) one that happened litterally right up the street from my shop.

There was a local store owner that kept a beat up old (one of the REALLY old ones) LLAMA .380 or 9mm...not sure which it was. It was not maintained or shot...just something he bought and put under the register "just in case"

Enter the generic "gansta" complete with "high quallity" ;) equally well maintained Loricin .380 in an effort to rob said shop owner. A heated debate over who was going to do what broke out and both parties drew iron (or magnesium alloy?) and proceeded to have failure after failure to get either weapon in working order. A few customers came in and freaked out (seeing what they walked in on) and the would be robber departed quickly as he was quite shaken and nerve racked. Nobody was hurt...no shots fired...not for lack of both parties trying...repeatedly!

You have to wonder what the odds of that are...I believe he (store owner) bought a good used revolver from our shops previous owner shortly after the above incident...he is no longer in business. The story came up when the new business owner at that location came in to buy a "$100-150 gun" to leave in the store. I sold him a couple cans of freeze +P for $15 a pop. We don't sell junkers. At least THAT will work when you squeeze it:D

All things considered, even though he lost the encounter, Mr Hailu certainly died bith his boots on! Kudos' to you Mr Hailu!!

Hopefully justice will be served through the courts!
