If you are an owner of one of the latest 10,000 Saiga-12 shotguns to reach America, then you need to read this thread on the Saiga Shotgun Forum.

:what:   :fire: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

Verified. I measured mine. BOTH!

???

This is off topic and has absolutely nothing to do with froum subject matter.

Gazpacho your name looks very familiar. Did you ever do any online gaming some years back, like MW3-4, BTU or the like? :scrutiny:

If not then nevermind me. I'm just rambling.

Back on topic. Referring back to this other thread, I just bought an AK thru FBMG and have nothing but high praise for the service I recieved. Good bunch of guys up there in Utah. :)

I gotta disagree. If the latest shipment of Saiga 12ga shotguns are being sold with barrels shorter than 18", Its both appropriate and important.

Something to look out for when shoping for a "new" Saiga. Last thing you want to do is end up in hot water because someone else dropped the ball.

I don't think _N4Z_ was saying the topic was irrelevant. I think he was saying his question to the poster is off topic.

I am hoping to get an S-12 if and when the next shipment comes. I hope this situation doesn't screw it all up. I wonder what the current buyers will have to do now. Hopefully everything will get sorted out.

Ahh, My mistake. I misread the post.
Sorry _N4Z_.
Don't I feel sheepish? (Bahh_ah_ah_ah_ah);)

Nope, never did any online crack . . . um, I mean gaming.

I really didn't need this.

PvtPyle is my business partner. We found out about this at SHOT, and informed RAAC, and then spoke with the ATF Tech Branch. That post was live from the ATF booth.

In short, if you have one, get that choke soldered, welded, or otherwise permenantly affixed. Keep your receipt. If you have any issues or questions, call FBMG at 801-571-1160.

Dear God. What a cluster. Gotta love out-of-spec manufacturing and inattentive admin-weenies.

Mike

Here's the deal, and I actually know this because I WAS THERE. :D (I love saying that on the internet). The folks at RAAC are good people, and it was an honest mistake. As soon as PvtPyle and I made them aware of the mistake, they took immediate action to correct it and find a good solution with the ATF. We went with them to the ATF Tech Branch agents that were at the show.

My personal theory, which is totally unconfirmed, is that the Russians measured these guns from the end to the end of the barrel extension, not the bolt face. When done that way they come in at 18+, with the choke they come in at 19. The ATF official method is from crown to bolt face. Since the Saiga bolt rides so far into the barrel extension, you can see how this would be misunderstood by the Russians. When measured that way they come in at about 17.2 with out the choke.

Now here's the thing. The shotguns that came in on this batch were originally supposed to be shipped to EAA. So there are probably EAA import guns that are the same way. So even if you have an old one, pull your choke, and measure the barrel with a dowel down the barrel.

And for clarification, Customs checks guns on export, ATF checks the imports. So these went through the ATF not Customs.

Are there any other legal issues to be aware of with the Saiga-12 shotguns or with their magazines?

I like the idea of a box-magazine-fed shotgun because my old fingers go through bouts of stiffness, aches, and pains so that from time to time it's a trial to reload a standard tubular magazine. It's also hard to reload a box magazine at those times but my thinking is that I could load a few of them when all my parts are functioning reasonably well.

But I don't want to bump into any unfamiliar legal issues or consequences, and I'm not interested in skirting any laws. Please understand that I'm not asking whether the Saiga-12 is legal: I recognize that it must be. What I'm asking about is potential booby traps that might be sprung by an old potential booby.

I'm pretty sure you can use any mag you want.

If you convert it to a pistol grip, then the parts count applies, but until then, the detachable mag is the 1 evil feature you're allowed to have.

And as always, state law may vary. The above is just federal.
