I had been hearing so much positive stuff about the saiga 12, but I was always happy with my winnie 1300. I went to the range this past weekend and I saw a guy with a Tromix Saiga 12. :what: Good lord it was a beauty. I sat back and watched him load a 10 round mag, cock it and then proceed to fire all ten in less than 10 seconds!!!!
Holy :cuss: was all I could say. The owner looked over his shoulder and saw he had a spectator. "I just got it from Tromix, cool huh?" he said. "Hell yeah!" i replied. He said the price came to like $750 with shipping and all. Steep, but what a weapon. Then He asked me if I wanted to shoot a clip full. I swear I was like on dream street when he asked that. The moment felt like one of those crazy scenes from that movie "The Big Lebowski". All I can say is while I shot 10 Wolf slugs from this awesome gauge, I was in Nirvana. When it was empty, I came back to reality.
I thanked the guy and left with confidence that I will own one of these before 2008!:)

Tromix's Saigas are awesome.... too bad we can't convert them to full-auto :(

i have had the chance to shoot one as well. needless to say one is high on my list as well. just gotta to find one at the same time i have the money.

I just shot the Saiga 12 that my wife got me for Christmas for the first time yesterday. Wow! I love it. I've already ordered the mean looking shark brake from Tony, but I plan on sending it back for the full Tromix treatment as soon as I can scrape up the bones.

Tony, you have the right attitude!

Tony, I was looking at your website, and I especially like the Tromix Philosophy! :D You are a model for us all!

This may be my next purchase!

If you look close, you can see that Cole did not move the gas system back. He just hacked off the barrel at about 13" and probably opened up the existing gas ports. I doubt it would cycle low base target shells like that and the large gas ports are going to increase fouling of the gas piston.

To do it right, the gas system needs to be moved back on the SBS'.

Tony

I have a standard 12 ga Saiga w/ a bunch of 5 rd mags, and I love it. Does anyone know what restrictions I would have on modifications being in NY State (not NYC)?

Does anyone actually hunt with a Saiga or are they for HD only? I see a lot of videos with people "rockin' & rollin'" as they quickly empty the mag but are they useful for other stuff as well?

I bought two back when they were $200 each from CDNN
It takes 4 seconds to shoot 11 rounds of anything you want.

TonyRumore does a great job.

I hunt hogs with my saiga 12ga.

Oldnamvet:

I don't hunt so I don't know if anyone uses a Saiga-12 for that purpose. Some friends and I did use mine shooting wobble trap, though, and it was great fun for us all.

It has remarkably little perceived recoil, by the way.

Hey Tony, I love your work! I was handling some Tromix Saigas in FBMG this afternoon.

Can you fix the bolt/mag insertion problem? Word is that it's nearly impossible to insert a full magazine with the bolt closed. I'm left-handed, so I can't do the quick-load technique that Correia does (which is really freaking fast, btw).

Also, can you find >5 round mags? Where do you get them? I thought the 8-round mags weren't being imported.

Nightcrawler, you can check ebay but they are expensive, especially the eight rounders. My local gunshop in Pa. had them but I am in B'more this week so I don,t know if they have anyleft(five rounds).

Ummm, I don't get this gun. An AK-47 framed shotgun? WTH for? Home protection? Please... 10 rounds in ten seconds? That's far from impressive compared to the Beretta Xtrema2 and the Benelli M2 which video verified will do 12 shots in 1.73 seconds. I'm sure you've seen it - now THIS is an impressive gun, and shooter:

Sorry, might look cool, but that's just simply an impractically silly shotgun.

This has long been a sore point for me. I was all set to buy one ( if not two ) from CDNN at that super low price back then. A friend at the time though had me fully convinced that they were "low quality garbage", and so I never did it. I blame myself for not doing the research back then, but then I didn't know about sites like THR back then either. I always consider those the 'ones that got away'. :banghead:

Nortonics, your post comes off as seriously snobbish. Just because YOU don't see a need for it dosn't mean others don't. Personally, I think the guns you linked to don't look nearly evil enough.:p Not trying to beat you up, perhaps you didn't mean it the way it came across as read. It's just that one of my pet peeves is gunowners that don't stick together and allow others to own what they want... ala sporting versus non sporting type guns
and hunters that "see no need for semi automatics" etc.:)

Yeah. Detachable box magazines are a passing fad. :D

There's nothing impractical about it. I'll take a Saiga over any commerical autoloading shotgun on the market. Nearly every one of them, like the Remington 11-87, is based on a flimsy, difficult-to-disassemble duck hunting gun. The Kalashnikov operating system is proven, simple, rugged, and easy to disassemble, and these guns are very reliable. And you're not going to find a hammer-forged, chrome lined barrel on anything Remington or Winchester churn out.

Plus, the magazine capacity is independent of barrel length. The Saiga is the only shotgun in the world (that I know of) that can have both an 8" barrel and an eight round magazine.

Nortonics - A Beretta may shoot really fast, but try reloading it in a hurry. Box magazines make reloads much faster than tube magazines.

Good point - I didn't take that into consideration. Guess I was really focusing on the thought that ten rounds in ten seconds was something to be amazed with.

My thoughts are based on private ownership. Seems utterly impractical in such a role - when are you ever going to lop off twenty rounds from two boxes at a home invader? Now in a military roll - Amen! And it's not like you're going to go out and shoot a few rounds of Skeet with your buds on any consistent basis either.

Man, gimme' the money that something like that must cost and I'll put it to good use on one or more guns that won't be destined for safe queens.

Nortonics, what does practicality have anything to do with it? I mean this argument comes up all the time. Why have a car that can go 150 mph when there is no need for it? I am really not trying to bash you but you are sounding a little anti to me. Have you never bumpfired an AK or set off fireworks or other such FUN things? I just don't get it.

Cost? That's the beauty of the made-in-Russia shotguns. A basic Saiga, with a 19" barrel (with fixed IC choke), bead-type sight, and one five round mag runs considerably less than anything comparable. The magazines are expensive, but for basic use, you only need a couple.

Mainly, though, it's the cool factor. But beyond that, it's a cool gun that WORKS, instead of being just a gimmick. You don't see that too often.
