Hey all. I'm really interested in the USP .45 pistol. I shot it at the range, and it feels great. Before I purchase this weapon, I was wondering if there are any other pistols worth considering. I want one with a decocker, capable of holding 10 rounds, reliable, accurate, and within this price range. Also, what is a reasonable price for this weapon? I've seen anywhere from 800-900. Is it customary to "bargain" the price at all?

ALSO, should I consider waiting for the HK 45 (wonder if it will have the magazine disconnect)?

I would say that the Sig P220 is the closest thing to your description except the capacity. There are 10 round mags but they are not flush with the grip of the gun.

If you check out www.policeguns.com you will find some good deals on HKs. $800-900 is high in my opinion. Check the site I gave you and you will get factory night sights and 3 12 round mags for the gun.

Thanks for the reply...I'm located in CA, so I can't buy guns online, right?

I picked up my USP Tactical for the price you mentioned. You should be able to get a regular USP for 600-700.

I coulda sworn this was asked before. You still haven't bought that USP .45 yet? Git to it!

Hmm.. I can't really think of any other platform that holds 10 rds of .45 and decocks.

*The SIG P220 is a 8 rounder single stack alloy/steel frame with a decocker
*The Glock is a striker fired dao/safe action poly gun that holds 10 rounds. No decocker
*The XD is a SAO striker fired double stack 10 rd polygun
*The CZ97, well all I know is that it's all steel. I have no idea what the heck it has except that it is all steel. :D
*The M&P, not sure if it's out is another double stack polygun no decocker.

Sounds like the USP is it. :)

Yep...I was interested in the USP .45 for quite awhile now...I tried waiting for the HK 45, but can't take it any more. I still don't know for sure if it will have the magazine disconnect. I figure even if it were available next month, it will be several months before a regular civilian like me would be able to get one. Any input on that? Man...600-700 for a new USP .45??? That's a deal. Cheapest I found was 799!

Whaat? I paid $729.99 for mine, and it came with three (!) 12 round mags. Saw a slightly used one for $650.

My ATF photo of the month. Yes, that's a dinner tray.

So, 800$ for a new one in Southern California seams reasonable? Also, if that is the listed price, should I try to bargain the price down or ask for...say 800$ out the door? Also, what other fees are assessed? Tax, background check, and the HSC test, right?

I bought both of my USP45s used. The first wasn't the best deal, but it was my first handgun 5 years ago and I was about as anxious as you seem to be. I found it local so I could do FTF to save some $ and paid $650. It has 4 10rd mags and was in vg condition. I see deals all the time in the forums - you just have to wait for them. Lucky for me, I was already shooting one whenever I wanted so last year I lucked out on SIGforum around this time of night and got one practically new for $550 with 4 12rd mags.

Since you're in California, find one online from someone who can ship through a dealer for $20, find a local dealer to transfer (usually $20, probably $30 in CA), have the seller send me the 12 rd mags, and I'll send you the 10 rounders that you guys love so much out there on the coast.:neener:

Oh yeah, you could wait for the FNP45

I've bought (2) usp .45's

One had ~ 1200 rounds through it, a couple small scratches, and came with (2) high cap mags. $575

The other had 100 rounds through it, box, papers, and 2 mags. $650

I've seen them in the $500 range...

I got mine used for $500, but it only came with one mag, and no box. It was in excellent condition, and it is the most accurate handgun I own. I sold my Gold Cup, because the HK is more accurate.

grip circumference

How is the trigger reach and grip circumference on the USP 45 compared to, say, 1911 or Para Ord 14-45 or XD .45?
I have medium hands but short and fat fingers.
I owned a Para 14-145, held XD .45 and own a number of 1911, and am most comfortable with 1911 but am considering a USP...
Thanks in advance.

Yes, prices are higher here, along with cost of living and wages are higher here too compared other states.

Still, I bought ALL of my HK, NEW. :D

The USP grip circ. is definitely larger than a 1911, but unless you have exceptionally small hands, it won't be a problem. I have medium sized hands, and the full size USP45 fits very comfortably in my hands.
