Airman shot by anti-war protester

A fair question Glockman, your point is quite valid and I agree with your assessment to a certain degree.

Where I differ in interpretation of person and event is in the questions I ask...
Do protest rallies take rollcall? Did his name need to appear on some list in the bowels of the DNC?
Or maybe it was just his anti- __American action or agency of choice goes here ___ that identified him with those of like mind.

Regardless, he clearly resented the government and all its actions (or inactions) thereby aligning himself with those of similar rabid goals and interests (impeach Bush, stop the war, get of Iraq, etc). And there may be specifics in the notes he left behind, which we may or may not ever know the contents of...my guess is the more it identifies him as a member of that crowd, the less likely it is to be "leaked". However, it doesn't take much of a leap or too many fill-in-the-blanks, to see his motivation or where he was coming from, imo.

Bottomline, his actions and what we do know casts him in that light and identifies him with the current crop of "protests" crowd whether he attended a rally or not. He may be the Richard (shoebomber) Reid of the left's anti-war, anti-gov't movement, but it's pretty easy to conclude, given all their rhetoric to date, that there are many (many!) on the "mainstream left" who have given silent nods of approval to this nut and his attempt to murder an American serviceman.
Thus, they own him!

This is self-serving garbage.

A Year Later??

Why do you feel the need to bring this particular shooting to our attention over a year later?
Something must be wrong with my searches.

So far, everything I have found seems to indicate this is current news.

What am I missing?

Sorry, my bad on the time frame. It is current. When I read "last July 4th" I misinterpreted that to mean July 4 2006. That's what I get for responding while correcting a pile of homework about glomerular function.

What's your stake in this, deltacharlie? People all over the world are attacked every day and you never hear about it. Why do you feel the need to bring this particular shooting to our attention over a year later? Without "parody" or any rhetorical questions, please explain why it is important for us to know about this particular shooting now.

Joe , as you are getting further and further off the reservation with each post I'll try to make this brief and use small words.

Check the dateline of the story, here. You will be able to see that it is dated this year, 2007.

No pardoy, just facts, it is the year 2007 in which the incident occurred. And the current date is July, 2007.

If you disagree that it is not the year 2007, please direct further comments to a moderator or a psychologist.

Have a terrific day (July, 13th, 2007)

Here's a question for thought. Assume the guy hadn't killed himself. He gets caught a little later, and is held on what charge? Attempted murder, right? Now, if it were a cop he'd shot, and if he were convicted, he'd likely be executed, or get life without parole.
What would the punishment be if he were convicted of attempted murder of a member of the armed forces? 20 years max, maybe? What stink would the press make about this guy exercising his right to protest the war, and how would that affect his final sentence?

Anyone who kills a member of the armed forces for simply being a member, should get the same consideration to sentence as a cop-killer, IMO.
Excuse my rant, but it is an interesting question into how the punishment metted out can be altered by who was killed.

This story must truly be false. Anti-war hippies don't own guns or commit violence, and there is no way someone who is mentally unstable can buy a gun in a tough gun state like New Jersey
