Back at the end of last year we had a group buy of the Svord "Peasant" friction-folder knives out of New Zealand. The buy went quite well, so I was going to pick up some of the smaller-sized 1-3/4" version called the "Gent Peasant". However, the knife went out of production earlier this year, due to the economics of keeping so many variants in stock.

However, I contacted the Bakers (Svord craftsmen), and it turns out that they have several dozen Gent Peasant blades left over. No scales, but heat-treated, drilled for rivets, etc. They even have a dozen or so in damascus steel.

Minimum order is 10 knives, so I'm buying one min set. I'm keeping one damascus and two or three carbon steel, but can part out the rest as needed. I won't be back in VA (where the knives are going) until November, but drop me a PM if you want me to hold one for you. I think I can do about US$15 shipped per carbon blade.

If anyone wants a damascus, I can still change my order in the next few days, so let me know. Should be US$28 shipped for the damascus.

Again, these are just the blades, so you can make your own scales, or ask a buddy. I find that pretty liberating, myself. Although I wish I had jumped on a red-stag handled GPK when the NZ dollar was low.

PM me if you need one or two (and PM ASAP if you want damascus), or contact the Bakers for a larger order.

Got back from Tajikistan a month ago, spent a week in DC visiting folks and desparately restoring spicy food to my diet.

Drove for three straight days (well, one 14hr ferryboat ride included), and am spending a coupla months on the isle of Newfoundland, easternmost point of all North America. For those curious, the classic knife up here is Grohmann. Volunteering teaching English to Kosovar refugees, got a role as the Spartan Ambassador in a local production of Lysistrata, and am importing ukuleles and Appalachian dulcimers to sell as a non-profit.

Looking to road-trip down through Quebec in early November, bounce to a family reunion in Spain for the holiday, and (Godwilling) start working in Afghanistan in December. However, the best laid plans o' mice an' men gang aft agley.

I didn't realize this is blade only. Thanks for the heads up. No order for me this time.

Oh, and have I mentioned you're evil??

Oh, and have I mentioned you're evil??

I usually get told that, in Persian, by petite dark-eyed girls. But I'll still take it as a compliment from you too.

One quick thing: not to be neurotic, but could each person posting a request here please confirm (in their main post) that you understand that this is the blade/lever itself, it has no scales. You will need to assemble your own.

I'd just hate for someone to think they're getting a complete knife, as the picture shows an assembled one. I have no pics of just the blade, but you have a pretty good idea what one looks like.

Friction-folder scales are extremely simple, so this is the easiest of wood/metal-working projects.

Matthew,

I am going to have to pass on this deal, but thanks for the PM. I am really enjoying my Svord from the first buy, so BTT for a great deal.

BTW, enjoy your time in Newfoundland. I was born there (St. John's) and lived there the first 18 months or so of my life, but haven't been back. Maybe that would make a nice Summer trip some time in the future.

MV, thanks for the PM but I'll have to pass right now. I wish my wife had taken the not so subtle hints last time around. Oh well.

MV-I acknowledge the blade only status. My son and I are going to get inventive with the scale materials.

Oh snap... Between your project and Don's project, this could get colorful. I have an idea or two of my own, but they're dependent on a lot of other factors.

I'll let this thread ride for a week, and will place an order this coming Monday. I might toss in a couple extras for late stragglers, as I bet a couple folks will want some once they see what Don and KMKeller work up.

Brian: can do.

I'll ask about the parts, but I'm under the impression that they used some parts of different diameters than the full Svord, and standardizing their parts was among the resons they cut the GPK. So they might be totally out, but I'll check.

MV,

Sorry about the late response, my mom is critically ill and have not been on the net in a while.

Having said that, if it is not to late, I'm in for one of each. If I am to late, keep me in mind if any takers fall through.

Thanks for the opportunity.

PS (I also PM'd prior to reading your instructions to post here. Also, my response to your Entrek Lynx post still stands, the TOPS checkmate is yours if you want it.)

UPDATE: I have returned (very briefly) to the US, and the Svord blades were waiting for me at my uncle's house.

There is going to be some slight further delay in mailing out, due to the Veteran's Day holiday coinciding with my being about to leave for Spain tomorrow morning. I'll email the current buyers to update them.

In the meantime, here's the pics:

All current orders have been filled, but I did have one no-show, so I have two carbon blades remaining.

I can do $25 shipped for both remaining blades.

I should be deploying to Afghanistan in the next couple weeks, so time is short if you want to grab these. Minimum order from New Zealand is still 10, so if you want any fewer than that this is your only chance.

I will take them both. These might make a nice project and I've been getting into knives lately (building me own) so I'll hold these back til I get my knife fu stronger.
