There is no right or wrong choice in this. What would be your choices to fit each of the uses below.

Your personal war rifle.

Your personal deer rifle.

Your personal Elk rifle.

Your bird gun.

Your war handgun.

Your competition 22 rifle

Your competition 22 pistol

Your CCW gun

Is there anything I missed:D No really if you could have your choice and money wasn't a problem what would you have to fit the way you see things? To fit any and all situations, what would fit your taste in firearms?

jj

war rifle: M1 Garand
deer rifle: Remington 700 (30.06)
elk rifle: Remington 700 (300 win mag)
bird gun: Mossberg 500 (12ga)
war handgun: colt 1911 (.45acp)
comp .22 rifle: Marlin model 781 (may not be the best but its what im most accurate with)
comp .22 handgun: Hawes Firearms S/A .22lr/.22mag (i dont know much about comp pistols but i am dead on with this gun so if i had to go into a match with what i currently own i would use this gun)
CCW gun: colt 1911 (.45acp)

War Rifle: Springfield M-14 7.62 (.308 Winchester)
Deer Rifle: Remington 700 CDL in .270 Winchester
Elk: Winchester model 70 in .338 Winchester Magnum
Bird Gun: 12 gague Beretta Xtrema 2 (26" barrel)
War Handgun: SIG-SAUER/SIGARMS .45 ACP P220A
Comp .22 Rifle: Undecided
Comp .22 Pistol: Browning BuckMark
CCW Handgun: .45 ACP Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry

Your personal war rifle: M14

Your truck rifle: Marlin 336 .30-30

Your personal sniper rifle: Rem. 700 .30-06

Your fighting shotgun: Remington 870P

Your fighting handgun: 1911A1

Your competition 22 rifle: CZ 452 Lux

Your competition 22 pistol: a High Standard model...not sure which.

Your CCW gun: Ruger SP101 .357

I changed a few of the categories to match my uses. I don't hunt, but a Marlin 336 is a fine, fine rifle for hunting or defense. All of my weapons above .22LR caliber are part of my defensive battery.

Just going w/ what i own, may be different if i had more money or what not.. but i don't... so.. here we go...

Your personal war rifle. Ruger Mini 14, .223

Your personal deer rifle. Ruger Mini 14, .223

Your personal Elk rifle. Assuming these are hard to drop - i'm not a hunter... so... Marlin Cowboy lever... .45 long colt.

Your bird gun. 12 gauge - Mossy

Your war handgun. Varies, .40 HK, 9mm Walther p99, .357 Taurus wheel.

Your competition 22 rifle Old rifle passed from my grandfather - you miss its YOUR fault...

Your competition 22 pistol Don't have it any more.. prolly isn't comp spec'd, but i did like my p22 before my dad grafted it from me. :)

Your CCW gun See the above war pistols... likely the p99 because of its size and the number of shots. Altho i have to say i'm REALLY fond of my HK USPC 40 :)

War Rifle? I have a Bushy AR, which is guess is what you mean, but I don't like it much. I'd rather have and original 1903 Springfield with the finger groove stock. You didn't say which war.
Deer Rifle: Winchester 64 30-30
Elk Rifle: Never hunted elk, but I think a Winchester pre-64 Featherweight in 30-06 would do the trick.
Bird Gun: I dunno, maybe a Winchester 101.
War Handgun: An old Army Colt 1873 .45 like the one Custer used before the injuns shoved it up his a$$.
I don't compete, so I'd have no clue which rifle or pistol to choose.
CCW: An original Walther PPK .32

This is assuming a few things (more on that later) and this list is not necessarily comprised of firearms I own (or will ever own, for that matter - its a "dream" battery, after all)....

Your personal war rifle: FN-SCAR H (assuming that they come out with a Civie model, or the feds drop their ban on new machine guns).

Alternate: Springfield M1A or AR-15

Your personal deer rifle: Lots of contenders for this one. I honestly can't narrow it down to a single rifle, but I will say that it would be chambered in .308 Win or .30-30. Probably something based off the Remington 700 action, maybe a modified BDL or CDL. The Marlin 336 and the Winchester 1894 (pre-'64) are in the running as well.

Your personal Elk rifle: Probably something chambered in .30-06. Again, Remington 700 is in the running. My grandfather used a 1903 Springfield to hunt elk, so I'm going to add that one in there as well.

Your bird gun: A German made double barrel shotgun. Something light and quick handling (I hunt mostly upland game birds). My duck gun is (and would be anyway) an 870 Remington. Although I'd upgrade it to a Wingmaster (my current one is an express model).

Your war handgun: Tough one as well. Probably a Sig P226 in .40 S&W or 9mm.

Your 22 rifle: Either a Marlin 60 or a bolt action CZ or Marlin.

Your 22 pistol: Ruger Single Six.

Your CCW gun: Ruger SP101 or GP101 in .357 magnum. I'm leaning towards the GP101 for the adjustable sights, but the SP101 is much easier to conceal.

I noticed no one said a Scout rifle and some other guns that are in the gun rags alot. One however did say Socom which is a M14 scout. No Fals unless they were full auto. It's about your dream guns ya know and if you could buy what you wanted to address the situations above then what would you buy.

I am not going to go with a scenario, just your veiw of what a target competition gun is or a war gun should be. We are all gun people with different taste and this is just about what you would get should you be able to buy what you want.

I don't have enough experience with my dream weapons to be sure, but here goes:

Your personal war rifle. Have .308 Mauser, Mini-14 & SKS but I'd probably prefer an M14. I think a Barrett .50 BMG semi-auto could be useful too. Also like Robinson Armaments XCR.

Your personal deer rifle. Have a .32 Win spl. Probably prefer a .308 BAR

Your personal Elk rifle. Have a stainless/synthetic Ruger .300WSM. Prefer a Rem 700 in .300 Win Mag

Your bird gun. Have winchester 120 pump. Probably prefer Benelli SBE II

Your war handgun. Have CZ-P01 and CZ-52. Probably prefer full size 1911. Maybe Kimber's double stack. Maybe a CZ SPO1.

Your competition 22 rifle: Have a Marlin 60 that is actually pretty accurate, but I'm not familiar with .22 competition. I've heard good things about CZ.

Your competition 22 pistol: Have a Ruger .22/45 with 5.5" bull barrel that I like, but I'd like to try their target model.

Your CCW gun: Have P-01 and P3AT. Probably prefer Kimber ultra carry, pro carry, or Rohrbaugh R9.

Your personal war rifle. : m16

Your personal deer rifle.: remington 700

Your personal Elk rifle.: barrett .50 bmg :D

Your bird gun. remington: 870

Your personal war rifle. M1 Garand

Your personal deer rifle. the same Garand

Your personal Elk rifle. the same Garand

Your bird gun. Remington 870 (got it)

Your competition 22 rifle Glenfield M-60 (got it)

Your competition 22 pistol Ruger MkII (got it)

Your CCW gun Kimber Ultra Carry (got it)

So with five guns, I have all the bases covered, and I already own four of them. Anybody got a Garand they want to sell me?

Your personal war rifle. M1 Garand.

Your personal deer rifle. Win Model 70 (mine was made in 1939.)

Your personal Elk rifle. Custom '03 Springfield in .35 Brown-Whelen

Your bird gun. Ithaca Model 37 in 12 Gauge.

Your war handgun. Model 1911A1 -- I have three, and prefer my Kimber Classic, one of the first made.

Your competition 22 rifle My Kimber M82. I used to pick up pocket change shooting .22 Silhouette with it.

Your competition 22 pistol Colt Woodsman, made in 1938.

Your CCW gun My Kimber Classic -- although I sometimes slip a Colt Detective Special into my pocket.

Make sure you understand their rating system. Innovation was factor, which is totally unimportant except historically.

The AK rates number one for a variety of reasons, and it's posistion 'in general' is well deserved. But the AK has sever limitations. If you are part of a peasant army it is great. It is designed for short range firepower. However, if you are alone, and get into trading shots with an enemy, I'd like to have the advangae of distance.

The mission will ultimately decide what rifle works best. The AK is not a DMR or sniper rifle. I would not care to have a whole squad of crazies with AKs and go up against someone with skill behind an M25 a few hundred yards away.

But if I had to arm a whole bunch of non-mechanical civvies who'd never seen a gun before, the AK would top my list of rifle picks.

Your personal war rifle - FAL
Your personal deer rifle - Large Ring w/Whelen bore
Your personal Elk rifle - see above
Your bird gun - Ruger Gold label (a kid can dream)
Your war handgun - Browning HP
Your CCW gun - Kahr?

War rifle? If I didn't have to carry the thing too far for any length of time Dad's FN-FAL converted to limited full auto. If I'm moving, a bullpup like the MP7 or maybe an M-16.

Deer rifle? I prefer a bow but I suppose my Lee Enfield, either the .303 or the 30-06, would do nicely.

Elk rifle? Again the Lee Enfield.

Bird gun? My SAIGA 410, at least that's what I used when I lived on the farm and it did a good job on pheasant and quail.

War handgun? Either my uncle's Colt Commander (38 Super) or Gramps Lugar.

Comp .22? Marlin 39A

Comp .22? Colt Woodsman.

CCW? Sig Saur

And before anyone gives me grief about the smaller calibers I have problems with recoil. And as far as the "war handgun" goes I've always heard that if
you need to use your handgun you have made a serious tactical error. That and "when in doubt line the perimeter with Claymores."
